5 days post op... my world has changed!

Yes, you still need your willpower not to over do and over eat. Learn from others on this forum. We have all made mistakes. We are all learning new things every day. But when in doubt, call your doctor and don't look for medical advice here LOL! I learned after 3 weeks what happens when you hurry when eating and don't chew your food well enough! Merry Christmas!

How long were you sore after surgery?

I had no pain after two days and took 1 dose of pain med at home after one night in the hospital. I was in the grocery store post op 4 days. I am 67, and have more energy than I would have believed possible. One month our and I am shopping for hours.

    Crazy itching on stomach

We were all itching. It passes.

    Help!

Did you take some Soup or yogurt for yourself? Or a shake? Good luck!
  5. We were told no fruit or fruit juice because of the acidity. There are sugar free Torani syrups in many flavors. Try flavoring your shakes. You also can add sugar free pudding to your shakes. Experiment!!!! Good luck!!

    Uneducated about food

Because of weight watchers (I own part of the company, since I joined so many times LOL), my love for cooking, and because of my husband's diabetes, I have been reading food labels and studying for many years. This is a new journey for some. A new way of living, eating and cooking. But I am still learning. Best of luck!

    Going back to work

I was sleeved 1 month ago. I was grocery shopping 4 days after surgery, and doe the past 3 weeks I have shopped 3-4 hours a day feeling better than I have in many years. I am 1 year retired, but I know I could have been back to work 1 week after surgery, of course taking it easier than normal. No lifting though! I am 67 years old and have a world of energy. I have only lost 15 lbs since my day of surgery. All is well. Merry Christmas!

    Finally Approved

We remember feeling the same. Somehow the time will be over before you know it. Just read and study, get your Vitamins purchased, get your little bag ready for the hospital, and keep yourself busy. My husband was told there could bad problems because of his weight, diabetes, blood pressure, sleep apnea, etc, and he carried a worried look for two months - making me think he did not want the surgery. I kept questioning him. He wanted it. Today we are both 1 month post op and almost 1 month post op, and doing great. The surgery was 10 times easier than we expected. Do not read the scary posts here, focus on the positives. This is a wonderful tool to learn everything you need to know from others as you make this journey. Merry Christmas!
  9. I have learned there are so many variables here because so many doctors have different plans, that you MUST stick to the guidelines of your doctor. I have also learned that everyone can eat different things and it does not affect them the same. My surgery was Nov. 18, my husband Dec. 2. I have learned we were overeating during the first month, and now we listen to our bodes to really tell us when we are hungry, and seriously we are seldom hungry but eat for the Protein when we are. Remember it is called head hunger when you are stressing about food. Get busy doing other things. Merry Christmas.

    Am I doing damage?

I think each one of hears about stretching the sleeve and thinks we could be the one. Follow your guidelines, I don't think our bodies will let us overdo it as we are given warnings, hiccups, burps, and an uncomfortable feeling to remind us. As I experienced 3 weeks out not chewing mushy chicken well enough (and probably a bigger bite than I should have), I got a severe choking reminder. Lesson learned!!!!!

    Help Please! So Many Questions?

Johnny, for 10 years my husband attended weight loss seminars, and until the sleeve came along he rejected the idea of the other surgeries based on a lot of information. He has been overweight with serious health issues. We were both sleeved in November and December and are very thankful to have finally done this. I have felt like a million dollars, he has more issues with blood pressure, sleep apnea, and diabetes, but I can tell you one important thing. If we had not done this surgery I do not think my husband would have lived very much longer, so consider life as morbidly obese with debilitating issues versus $2,100, or another amount. He is 65 years old. Blessed to be sleeved,

    Tofu spring roll

We are all different and tolerate different things. I was sleeved a week after you and still doing soft foods, plus shakes, due to a traumatic experience with my first crock pot chicken about 10 days ago, and it was moist and mushy. I am glad you tolerated this, and I used to love my veggie egg rolls. It would be a long time before I would try one LOL! I am learning the more you eat the more you want. So my husband and I are staying on the more restricted diet to get through the holiday temptations. Merry Christmas.

    Filet Mignon

If I got choked on chicken I am not adventurous to worry about steak right now. Glad you are enjoying good food!

Not the response you wanted...Oh you've lost weight? really?

She's your grandmother, so take her shopping or something, away from the kitchen, LOL! We all have family dynamics that drive us crazy, LOL. Focus on positive people and just love your family.

I started a voice support room on paltalk

I joined a couple private FB groups, and found the topics were dominated by silliness - don't really know how to describe it. They ranted against older people too much I guess. I really like being here, and adding my 2 cents if I think I can give someone good advice. We are living and learning every day and enjoying the journey!

We are doing great Sassy! Both adhering to strict Protein after my 3 day semi-fast to recuperate! Getting ready to head to a 60th anniversary party for our dear friends, who are in their mid 80s. Rog commanded the USS Coral Sea, was a jet fighter, and Lynn is his commander in chief as he says. We met this couple several years ago by our two 40 year old friends (we are mid 60s), and have enjoyed a sweet friendship, even going to Vegas 3 years ago. Our plan is to grab some tea or Water and enjoy! No food. Obviously Rog and Lynn's longevity is because they have no food addiction, and I envy them that, Too bad our bodies are all so different, with different cravings! If the body doesn't get us sometimes, the mind goes..... I am ready to start living, how about you!

    Guys I need your help!

Good, I wanted to make sure. Weird, but I am 67 and have so much energy I keep overdoing it. I was definitely eating too much and after a scare this week I have barely eaten in 3 days, but not even hungry. Honestly I think the more I eat the hungrier I am. Take care of yourself!

Starving on this 2 week liquid

Keep busy!!!! Get your mind off food. I think I was more worried about food 2 weeks out, and now at 1 month out I hardly think about it. But I busy myself with things to do around the house for Christmas, like cleaning guest bedroom today for daughter to come home at Christmas. I have let that bedroom sit 4 months and kept putting more and more in there. I have so much more energy now! Loving it!
  19. 1 month out and I swallow all pills whole. Changed my big Multivitamin to a liquid from a compound pharmacy. I could not stand chewing two chalky discs called Bariatric Advantage multivitamin.

    Guys I need your help!

The weak feeling and feeling like you will collapse....make sure you get a blood pressure check. My husband is experiencing this terribly, being lightheaded and weak, and passed out in the shower. He is 2 weeks out, I am 1 month out.

I choose to bypass horror stories so I did not read. I like being informed, however we are all different and have different issues. Stay positive and hang with positive people!

For the love of GOD why am I so hungry ?!

Our rule is nothing to drink 30 minutes before and after a meal. She meant drink in between eating times, not immediately after.... You will have very painful dumping issues if you drink while you eat, I am told. Best wishes!

    Questions about Dumping and over-eating

We have an excellent surgeon. Take many Vitamins. He says just eat healthy, eat only when you are hungry (and says we should not be hungry), stay hydrated, take vitamins. He leaves it up to us to make wise decisions about healthy eating after 4 weeks. We got sidetracked trying to eat constantly during the day, like you mention. Won't happen again. Feeling much better after past 3 days barely eating. Most doctors know people are going to eat more than once a day. But the bottom line is every doctor is different, every patient is different, and we must do what works for us.

    The Boomer Chat Room

Hi Sassy, and anyone else! We were at a support group meeting last night and a lady described the exact dumping syndrome you describe, and the group leader says this usually happens when eating sugar or carbs. The lady said she was eating small bites of pineapple. She said she was covered in sweat and had the same symptoms as you. At least we know what can happen, and it is inevitable that we will overdo something. I hear that some days you can eat a food, and another day you might have a problem. If we did not have this website for sharing, we would not know these things and how to cope. It is the absolute worst when you cannot breathe, something I worried my asthma would do to me as it worsened with my age and weight. I have slowed down on my eating considerably for 3 days. My husband saw the surgeon yesterday, and he said we should be eating once a day. So yesterday I had 1/2 cup of mushroom Soup at 8 pm, and that was it. I had tea and 1 coffee the rest of the day, and not even hungry all day. I am going to slack off and forget all the things I am reading here about others' eating. I have to keep my husband more fed - hate this light headed low blood pressure problem, but will stay home as much as possible and let things work. I read a post this morning that made me laugh out loud, people saying they don't like to look old as they lose weight. One lady posted she would rather look older and have a little butt. I love that humor! I will keep posting here, despite the lack of activity, because newbies might discover our page and get needed information. Good idea to coy and paste. Have a wonderful day Sassy, I have my home smelling of pine scented candles, bought a new Christmas cactus, have my tree lit, and these 3 things make me very happy and contented. Neighbor brought us fresh oranges from her tree yesterday, and I have Meyers lemons growing on my large lemon tree. Gotta love my Florida. Supposed to be in the 80s tomorrow. God Bless, Linda
