1. Hi. I live near H'burg, and I will be (hopefully) getting my surgery from Dr. Avara in Ocean Springs soon. I have my PET class and Psych Review next week.

I was sleeved by Dr Avara on 9/24/13. Am very happy with my decision and results. I am down 90 lbs and have 20 more to go. I couldn't have asked for a better group of folks to help me through my journey. Trisha is great and can get you motivated!

    Good luck!

  2. You look great. My biggest fear is a leak, I have been following my doctors food schedule exactly & waiting 6 weeks to do gym, I'm really freaked out about leaks lol

I was scared of a leak at first-especially because I had a swollen belly for weeks after surgery. It took almost a month for the swelling to go down.

    Better safe than sorry!

Are you adjusting to your new eating/drinking/protein plan?

  3. I hit 80 lbs this week and am so excited!!! SW 267. CW 187. Yay!!!!!!!!! My goal was 100 lbs but the OB/Gyn suggests a minimum goal weight of 150. Either way I'm on my way. :) this has been so exciting and I feel so good. I had my 6-mo blood work drawn today and will see the Dr April 10th. I really feel everything will be looking GREAT!!!!!

  4. It's capsules that provide all the phytonutrients of fruits and vegetables without eating all the USDA recommended servings. I'm a firm believer this has helped me with some of the deficiencies that are so common. I take 2 fruits in the morning and 2 veggies in the evening. The only ingredients are fruits and vegetables-nothing else-i've watched a video on how they do it and it's pretty amazing.

And, BTW, spellcheck wreaks havoc again! I was trying to type "awful".

  5. Hi everyone,

I'm Dee, originally from Louisiana , living in Diamondhead now. I am one week post-op. I had my LapBand conversion to Sleeve. Was wondering when you were able to eat seafood, like crawfish or oysters? How much before your full. I'm still on full liquids still, but know I will really miss seafood :)

. I was eating regular food (chopped very fine) at two weeks post-op. Shrimp... At six-months out I can eat 2 jumbo shrimp and no sides at one time. You'll learn how to enjoy those foods and it won't bother you that you can't eat too much-as long as the plate is small! I still have trouble if my plate is too big for my stomach!

I gave no limitations right now other than my Protein intake.

Keep us posted on your recovery.

  6. Missj9, I also have Dr Avera and when I have my surgery I'll also be having it at Singing River. He did my moms surgery about 8 years ago when she had the band done. That is so cool that someone close to my area had/having it done. dde0a

They are really great folks to work with. I am so glad I chose them for this journey. I hope to meet you at the support group meeting on April 10th. I'm headed down there for my 6-month checkup! I'll be thinking of you as you enter this portion of your special journey :)

  7. Hi Melinda, I was in Tupelo over the Christmas Holidays. Lovely town, Congratulations on getting your surgery date. I didn't think the pre-op diet was hard either but I didn't want to quit eating all of my favorite foods. I am 1 week post op and doing pretty good save for the one sore incision spot on my stomach. Each day is a significant improvement and I will be going back to work tomorrow. The surgery itself kicked my butt and I had immediate buyers remorse but by Friday I was all on board again. I think that is pretty normal. I am still very hesitant about social situations but the rest of it is pretty easy and straightforward. Follow the rules given by the surgeon and you lose weight and the rainbows will appear and butterflies will fly. Or something like that. Anyway, it is a very doable plan if one sets their mind to it. Good luck and let us know how you do with surgery.

I was very worried about social situations and got thru the holidays without completely blowing it!

I made the mistake of grabbing a regular plate at a recent get together. I totally forgot my limits and piled on my yummy choices. I didn't eat everything (as you will find out-you can't even if you tried) but I learned that the plate size is critical. I will never use a regular plate again-dessert plate or saucer. It looks full and holds more than I can eat.

Good luck on your new journey!

  8. I have stalled on occasion but stopped weighing myself. I have dropped 5 clothes sizes so I gauge my weight loss on that.

No Hair loss issues but I also take 2 "fruit" and 2 "vegetable" capsules (phytonutrients & fiber); a Multivitamin (Centrum for women 50+); Omega 3; and B Complex drops.

In December I had my Primary Dr check all of my blood levels to make sure I wasn't either deficient or over-supplementing. EVERY test came back perfect! That includes the cholesterol (good and bad) yay!

My Brother and sister have both had the bypass and each had issues. I have learned from their mistakes as far as nutritional deficiencies and not following a proper diet.

I have found that the plate it my worst enemy. I cannot eat off of a regular plate because I will overheat every time. I have an expresso set and I use the saucer as my plate. I find it easy to eat right and I am satisfied- I know it's psychological so I am learning to work around some of the issues that got me here in the first place (like being told to eat everything on my plate)

  9. I'm from Ridgeland and just saw this thread and thought it would be neat to chat with a bunch of other MS and maybe even tri county area folks! I had my surgery with Dr. Kenneth Vick on Monday, 12/9/13! I am doing great but sooooooooooooooooo ready for the puréed stage!! I work at UMC in Flowood,MS at our Grants Ferry clinic. Love to hear from some of you!! Elizabeth Beasley

Hi! I'm Janine and was sleeved on 9/24/2013. I'm 40 pounds down and still learning! I didn't use transformations so my post surgical protocol is a lot different. Good luck and keep us posted!

  10. Hey there! I had my surgery on the coast. I too am with BCBS of MS (State employee out of Meridian) but I didn't have to go thru Active Health. Crazy huh

Also, I was shocked at the differences between surgeons and clinics/hospitals. I stayed one night in Pascagoula, my Fluid intake was not a concern, but walking was.

My first tray of food was a plate with a Soup bowl and inside the soup bowl was a medicine cup with broth. As well, the doctor had me swallowing pills the very first day.

I didn't do a preop diet but that was due to my BMI. I have not vomited, struggled with eating or had any issues other than an emotional breakdown on the fourth day out. It was short lived but real all the same! My only nausea came from the Multivitamin so I switched to taking the pill at night.

For those about to have the surgery-I regret not having the guts to do it a long time ago. This has been the best decision for me.

  11. You are in the same place I was. I despised family get togethers. I was embarrassed at restaurants because I thought people were watching my every move so they could judge me.

For Thanksgiving one year my SIL baked fish for me because she thought it was a way to encourage me to eat healthy. I was devastated.

[ I grew up thin. When I had my children I gained some weight and exploded after I adopted my abused niece and discovered food made me feel good when my life was out of control.

My nickname growing up was String-bean Janine. I gained so much weight that I lost myself and swelled on how fat I had become.

    It's an awful disease-obesity.

I was sleeved on 9/24/13 and have lost 35 pounds. What I've gained is my old self! I am happy, I'm showing off the changes and love to wear clothes that aren't baggy.

Don't misunderstand-I still have a long way to go (75 lbs) but I FINALLY feel I can do this and not fail.

My boss tells me I am 'bubbly' and glow. I agree-I feel great! ]

The insurance game is the hardest part. When you get to March you're journey will change course! The first week is the hardest and expect an emotional roller coaster.

My suggestion is to keep your eyes on the goal and stay off the scales during the first 4-6 weeks.

    Good Luck!

  12. Hi everyone! I survived! ..... am enjoying some Decaf coffee because its the only thing that doesnt taste sweet beyond measure. am getting some sugar free gatoraid today-plan to drink it to excess to make up for slacking on the Water (due to the sweet/soapy taste everything has-even plain water). am looking forward to moving to full liquids tomorrow. already planning my pudding fest! :) oh--if you have never heard this line before--BELIEVE IT---"never trust a fart". sorry if TMI but seriously' date=' half of my walking is from running back and forth to the bathroom not knowing if I just have gas or you know what!!!!! :) I wish all of you the best in your journeys!! Let's keep up and keep each other informed and supported. going to go get a hot shower now! have a wonderful Sunday-attend church if you are able. May God's glory be found in all of our stories.[/quote']

Glad you're back! I had the same issues but discovered it was my Protein doing it. I switched and have been fine since! I have discovered that I have lost a desire for sweets-I can't stomach (lol) them any longer. As for the water-have you considered Smart Water? I use it for safekeeping since I'm still working on getting it all in.

  13. I just realized that with my preOp liquid diet and postOp I have lost 6lbs per week on average. For a minute I didn't think I was losing that much. Crazy how our mind wants to discourage us into thinking it's not fast enough. Lol. I told myself to take a chill pill and enjoy this journey of living a healthy lifestyle. :-).

Did you change your picture? You look thinner in this one.... Or am I just losing my mind!

  14. I use my Unjury vanilla in my coffee to make it like a latte (no sweeteners). I drink two each morning to jump start the day. For Snacks I eat a cheese stick and couple of Apple slices (small). Dinner-if I am concerned about the Protein I will make an Unjury cheese sauce to help boost the numbers.

I have never tried the Premier Protein but have lost my desire to drink any sweet drinks or Protein Bars made to be like a candy bar. Today I tried to eat trail mix but it had m&ms and I couldn't make myself eat them. I'm glad but worried I'll eventually get back all of those cravings.

  15. I am happy to say that 5 weeks out I'm down 35lbs! I have sooooo much to learn and tons of behavior changes to make but it's nice to see a little incentive! For those who've stalled-I did several times but it's like when there is a drop it's a good drop!

My loss is mainly in my face and neck. My boss tells me I'm the incredible shrinking head-I hope the rest catches up- I don't want to look like Violet!
