  1. I have done really well and it saddens me that there are some who haven't. I am 5 weeks out and eating regular foods. I still include protein in my coffee ( making it a latte) and I work hard to get the water in. I have never vomited but get nauseated after taking my vitamin. I have lost 23 lbs, 22% body fat and gained a totally different attitude! My boss tells me I'm 'glowing' and I have to agree-I have been blessed! When I saw my surgeon for my post-op visit he told me I needed to start working on a total body workout. I haven't decided in a gym but plan on using a free trial period to start it off.

    Who Are You?

I'm Janine and am 51 years old. I'm married (30 yrs) with two kids and five grand kids! I live in the Deep South and sadly they really know how to cook! ( I am originally from AZ.) I grew up thin and never experienced struggles with weight until the birth of my first child. My life: My father was a cruel person who favored beatings and putting you down. There were six kids (two have died, one is a drug addict, the remaining three are/were morbidly obese). I grew up being told women are stupid and I had no reason to doubt him. My mom gained the strength to leave when I was 13 thank goodness! A turning point in my life was the death of my 22 yr old sister from a car accident and my 17 year old brother who died from Lymphoma when I was five months pregnant with my second child. I stopped gaining weight and the DRs put me on a high calorie diet eating 6 times a day and somewhere in all of that I found that eating was a great comfort to me. When I met my husband he always told me that I was smart and after the kids were horn I decided to try college- I loved it! I have earned an AA degree in accounting, BS degree in business administration, and a graduate degree in Taxation. I discovered I had a brain and it works pretty darn good! I am currently an audit supervisor for the unemployment office and DOL. My surviving brother and sister have both had the bypass and both have serious issues because of it. My brother still eats too much and he has hemorrhaged twice due to the stretching. His last episode landed him back for reconstruction surgery which basically left him without much of a pouch. My sister has maintained her weight but has to have blood transfusions at least once a year. I choose the Sleeve for those reasons. I look forward to a day when I find my old self and continue to live!
  3. Obviously she has a problem with you getting healthy. She must carry a burden so great that ringing down her friend is so much easier than facing her own issues. It's sad really, but you deserve to have friends who respect your opinions and if they disagree-they tell YZoU and not blab it on FB.
  4. I had those pains and am finally free of them (17 days out). As well- I discovered the protein I was consuming was giving me the 'scoots'. I changed to Unjury and have had no issue since.

    First person to send....

What do you use it for?
  6. I am battling pain on my right side when I lay down. I haven't been able to sleep and finally put the two together and realize I'm moving in my sleep and the pain in waking me up. I really thought the pain was pretty much over and this just started about three days ago. Thank you for clarifying what is happening. I've been trying to look back and figure out what I did wrong. Now I will just keep looking forward!
  7. I liked them before the surgery and cannot force myself to drink them now. They have turned on me and I get instant diarrhea that will last for a good two hours. All my fluid intake heads right out the back door! Leaving me in a negative. I'm not even sure the protein stayed in my system of if it hightailed too.
  8. Am 10 days out and am more swollen then the first week. I thought it was my imagination but the daughter in law asked me when the swelling will go down. She says I'm bigger than when they say me at five days out. I have no fever, no redness, BP is great- I'm only tired.
  9. Ok so today I'm 14 days out and I am sore plus the swelling has stuck around. Personally I think I'm sore due to the swelling. Any suggestions on getting the swelling down- it's really getting on my nerves. I guess a call to the clinic is in order.
  10. My Dr had me taking pill form immediately. He doesn't feel the chewable provides the same quality nutrients. I was mortified. The whole conversation came about when the nurse told me to break open a Prevacid capsule and pour it on some pudding. Hmmmm I was on clear liquids and questioned if I understood her correctly. Dr Avera told me if you can suck it thru a straw you can have it (without the straw!). Anyway, he assured me the pills will go down just fine. He was right- I just have to plan to take them away from any 'meal' because they fill my tummy. I am blessed not to have heartburn. I just think that would be miserable and you're already trying to recover. I will keep you in my prayers.

  12. I guess when the clinic said I would have to make life changes they included the Food Channel. And I agree- there should be laws against them! They nipped cigarette commercials didn't they?

  14. That makes me feel better. I think I'm paranoid of leakage.

  16. I' was sleeved on 9/24. I had a slow first week including a day of crying and total breakdown. I mistakenly watched the Food Channel without any thought to what that was going to do to my mind. Once I realized I was sabotaging my recovery I nipped the tv and started doing projects- work a little, rest a little. It has worked for me! I didn't have any drains so I can't imagine how much fun that would have been but I totally relate to laying on my right side. I still use a pillow to help support the incisions. The left ones were doozies - I never even had pain from any of the ones on the left. My surgeon does five incisions but I got lucky with an extra one due to a large hiatal hernia that required two staples to repair!
