    Friday the 13th

So excited and nervous for my surgery. I'm scheduled for Friday the 13th.
  2. I've been reading a lot of gastric bypass stories and I saw a trend of ladies complaining of hair loss. I know you can't take solid vitamins at least 3 months post op and liquid vitamins are a must. Has anyone ever thought of or tried a liquid biotin supplement? I'm afraid of losing my hair.

Nervous of not qualifying for surgery!

I feel you. I just went to my final appointment before they would submit me for insurance approval. I am doing the nervous/happy dance over here. You are not alone.

    not pregnant but wanting advice.

My doc refuses to try metformin or clomid with me. he said it would be unethical of him to help me get pregnant with me being 255lbs.
  7. I tried doing it on my own and I counted the calories, exercised till I was too tired to move and still only managed to lose 20 lbs. only to gain it back as soon as I took a break from exercising for an injury. My primary care doctor said this to me. That he wouldn't approve me for vsg because I should be able to lose 100 lbs. on my own without any assistance. All I should have to do is follow the food pyramid and be active for 45 minutes a day. So I went over his head and contacted the Mayo Clinic.
  8. Pre-surgery comments are as follows: 1. "You're going to look so pretty after you lose that weight." (Apparently I'm not pretty since I'm fat.) 2. "Aren't you upset you won't be able to continue eating out all the time like you do now?" (Yes, I'm overweight because I have the pizza guy on speed-dial... ) 3. "Wow! You'll be able to be more active and do more at your job." (Obviously, since I'm a large woman, I must be lazy and not function on the same level as the skinny ladies at my job....) People don't think before they speak... Word vomit.

    not pregnant but wanting advice.

This is the exact same reason I am wanting the surgery as well. It is always so depressing watching friends and family go on popping out babies like hotcakes and then complaining about the kids when there you are wishing you had a kid to complain about. (Personal experience with a friend) If anything know that you are not alone in your endeavor. Best wishes and good luck!

    work and complications

I am concerned about my turn around time back to work after my sleeve surgery. I wok in a very active, stressful job. Hopefully I can just return on light duty for a few weeks.

    Thyroid Issues...anyone Else?

I have been hypothyroid since 2009. I take 75 mcg of synthroid. Major weight gain since then after being obese my whole life. Got my first appointment with the bariatric surgery team at the Mayo Clinic in November. Interested in seeing how this all turns out.
  12. 1. Knees and back hurting at my active job and not being able to keep up with my older co-workers. 2. Hypothyroidism and infertility. 3. Wanting to have a baby.

    Clothing expenses after surgery

I am super excited at the prospect of being able to shop for common sizes in any store. Of course I realize things may still fit funny even after weight loss because of my body shape, I'm still excited. The link posted above about using a few pieces to create multiple outfits is great. Good luck to everyone before and after!
