  1. So I'm a single mom as well of a very active girl and I was able to do everything I did before the surgery. I seriously had no pain except for the first 12 hrs. I was so gassy from the gas they blow up your stomach with it was painful because the gas pressure. But I brought lots of gas x strips which helped a lot. My incisions had no pain at all, no pain when I was bending moving nothing. IT was the easiest surgery ever and I've had quite a few. I had my surgery Jan of 2014 and I'm still doing great and love having my body back to a place I feel comfortable. Now I didn't go alone but the way the experience was I wouldn't be worried to go alone if I needed to go back alone I wouldn't mind. My dad was totally opposed to it and super skeptical and he went with me and he was really surprised by how great the entire experience was.

  2. You will be so happy with your choice Tiff. I am almost 3 weeks out and had a fantastic experience! The doctors and omar are amazing! I havent felt ANY pain at all since surgery, except the gas pain for the first two days. Best of all Im not hungry and Im down 23lbs already. Best choice ive ever made for myself.

  3. Yes it does! I know exactly how your feeling I had surgery on the 17th and the 1st week everything i drank hurt and I could open my mouth and this gurggling sound would come out like a clogged drain going down is what it reminded me of. It is because your esophagus is inflamed and I took one anti imflammatory and started getting some relief. But now I am 13days out and I no longer have that feeling. The only thing I get sometimes now is a rumbling in my tummy when I eat creamy Soups that are a little too thick.

  4. I am a patient of Dr. Illan also! Im 26yrs old 5'3 and started at 230lbs had surgery on Jan 17th 2014 and i now weigh 210lbs only 12 days later. It was an amazing experience! The doctors were so great and caring even the nurses. Also Omar goes out of his way to take care of you and your guest. I went with my dad who was nervous and against the surgery but once we got there we met two other patients we both felt more comfortable. After my urgery I never felt any pain (except for some gas pain) and I never took any pain meds. Soon as I was out of the hospital we were out shopping and touring TJ, thanks to Omar! I would do it again in a heartbeat. Thanks Baja Bariatrics

  5. I have an exclusion on my policy as well and the first time they told me it wasnt allowed so i called again and the person said no i can get the surgery as long is i do that long list of things. So i make an appt at GBMC and they call me and tell me my insurance DOES NOT cover the surgery of an kind for any reason, due to my employers insurance broker choosing to exclude it to save money. I was devastated but now i am scheduled for self pay in Mexico w Dr. Illan on jan 17 2014.

    Good luck to you!

  6. 1. Pretending I hate the beach and summer just because I am too hot to be outside since i only wear pants and short sleeves

    2. Not being able to run around w my daughter (6yrs old)

    3. When my daughter see's a diet pill commercial she says "you should get that cause your fat"

    4. Parents asking me should you really be eating that

    5. Not being able to wear some boots cause they wont fit over my calf

    6. Not being able to wear heels for very long

    7. Seeing pictures ppl take of me (when i take them i can get a good angle n not look at fat)

    8. Looking in the mirror naked...yuck

    9. When I am talking to a cute guy im wondering if the only reason he wont like me is cause im fat

  7. Maybe I did something wrong when I made it but I found it so bitter. I boiled them in broth, added scallions, peppers and corn and that didnt help much.

I boil them put in the fridge to cool dice fresh tomatoes and cucumber and put on the quinoa with a little zesty itailan dressing and its so good

  8. Yes I will be going to Mexico...Most likely with Dr. Illan I just bought a new car which im kicking myself over...if i didnt i prob would choose Dr Ortiz just because he has a sort of celebrity status i guess you could say and its sort of like an extra assurance. but Ive read great things about Dr. Illan and the surgery is 4,500 plus your airfare, so im comfortable with my choice. now i hope i can find cheap airfare!!

  9. On my profile it says social groups - LOW BMIers. Just click on that and then join as a member. My surgery is on the 16th of November. WHen is yours?

unfortunately since i started a new job I have to wait 3 months before i can get a bank loan since im doing self pay so i will shoot for mid jan...i figure a new year and a new me! (or well bring the old me back) and i cant wait!

  10. I think wanting to lose 60' , 70 to 80 pounds is no lightweight. I see that u can be successful. Maybe not as fast as someone tht has to lose 100 plus. Br u can still get successful by changing your habits and using the surgery as a tool.

Right its no lightweight at all i cant even imagine what 90lbs of fat would look like next to me! thats why i put "lower" in quotes...but i just happened to be researching and one doctors site had pros and cons listed and being on a lower end of high bmi makes your process harder. didnt know how true it was. but like you said it makes sense if you really change your habits and all then i dont know y i couldnt still be successful

  11. Have you met with the doctor one on one yet? That's when we looked at my particular situation and came up with the decision together.

I don't know if the dumping syndrom is permanent.....I travelled with a bypass patient, and at 5 years out, she clearly did not have that......but she did experience it early after surgery.

I understand the calorie absorption of the bypass is not permanent, but the malabsorption is....if you are anemic or have any other nutritional concern, bypass may not be the best choice.

As you said, they both have their merits......good luck whatever you decide.....I know people who have the bypass and someone who had the sleeve, and they all had 200+ pounds to lose and everyone did it very successfully and are maintaining.

unfortunately for me my insurance excludes weightloss surgery soo im most likely going to go to cancun for surgery
