Premier Protein chocolate shakes have 30g Protein, 160 calories, 1g sugar 24 different Vitamins and i think 5g of carbs. Most patients get put on a 60-80g protein a day regiment for the pre-op and post op. If you are having issues getting protein in, drink a couple of these. they taste better cold and with a straw lol. I don't like many Protein drinks but I can tolerate these. Also if you aren't on the "liquid" stage of your preop diet, eat a couple low carb low sugar high Protein Bars. The Protein Drinks fill me up and then I drink a lot of Water to keep that "full" feeling.
Everyone has slip ups, just move on. Everyone has slip ups every once in a while.

I'm new to this blog. I am finally going to be getting the surgery. The paperwork too so long and now I got my approval from the insurance and on Monday I go in and neet eith the surgeon again. Then Wednesday I meet fir pre-op stuff and start my 2 week liquid diet. Boy idk if I can do 2 weeks on straight liquids. Scared of failure but excited for the start of a new life. I'm 31 yrs old weight as of last week was 317 (biggest yet) I can't wait to back down to 150-160ish. I'm so glad there is a support group of people going through the same thing. I've never had surgery before and so scared something bad is going to happen. Oh ya my surgery date is December 4th 2013. I wish everyone the best of luck in there journey :-)

Yay we have the same surgery date!! I see nutritionist and have my pre admission stuff done on Thursday then on to the liquid diet. I have been drinking a Protein Shake for Breakfast and then a light lunch and dinner for the last 2 weeks to try get prepared. It will be a little tough at first but I'm looking forward to it because that puts me one step closer to the big day.

My cravings have totally changed. I used to LOVE sweets and potatoes, rice, and bread. Oh my!
But now my cravings are usually for red meat. Go figure. But seriously, I think it's really cool.

I have no cravings post-op. I was amazed at the whole change in my thoughts about food. I still deal with wanting to eat when I'm bored, but it isn't a craving for any particular flavor. I can be just as satisfied with a boiled egg or my Beans and turkey meat combo as I would have been pre-op when I wanted a burger and fries.
But you can eat sugar post-op. I don't think there is any food I can't eat - it did take months before my stomach stopped complaining about some foods like pineapple, but processed foods like Pasta and sugar went down with ease.
So it's not that you can't have sugar, but that you will be eating so few calories that each food choice has to have as much nutrition in it as possible. And sugar is definitely an empty calorie.

9 months post op and artificial flavorings and soda turn me off. Find ones with natural flavors, Crystal light has an all natural flavor lemonade! I enjoy not wanting things that aren't good for me!

I also would encourage it. I think if I had done it at 31 instead of 38 I would have had 7 happier, healthier years. I was 304 pounds at my heaviest. Lost ~ 40 pounds pre-op and 55 now post op (I was 209 this morning!!). sleeved 5/1/13.

Welcome to the forum, IMO, you have come to the right place for your research. You will get a wide range of opinions and experiences here, for sure.
I was sleeved just over 2 years ago and long story short, it was the best decision I ever made. Ever. Above getting married and having children, which, I love them all, dearly, but this was a decision that was FOR ME and was life altering in ways I cannot even fully describe.
From my experience and research, and knowing that the sleeve is still relatively new, I believe the medical community are trying to be conservative with estimates of weight loss expectations. They have been doing GBP for years and have all sorts of data to be able to make estimates off of. It has been the "Gold Standard" as they say. But, propeller airplanes were also the "Gold Standard" until they weren't anymore. Sure, they have their place, just like GBP does, but IMO, there is a new sheriff in town and their name is VSG.
Far fewer complications (although there are complications, so be sure to research), no malabsorption issues, no restrictions on foods (except raw coconut and whole celery warnings, read about bezoars) I can pretty much eat anything and everything, just far smaller quantities. I lost 120 pounds and unlike my previous diets, it has never come back. I truly believe anyone can lose as much weight as they need to with the sleeve whether it be 50 pounds or 250 pounds. It is all about following the guidelines. You cheat your sleeve, you won't lose ... it is as simple as that.
Keep researching and ask questions here and other WLS forums, but I think you'll find VST pretty cool.

GO FOR IT!! I was sleeved 6/13. I started at 323, day of was 308, now 277. I'm 35, 5'4" no kids. My doc said I was healthy for it. Just POS. I didn't really have any problems. Some nausea in the beginning but was gone after a few weeks. Now, I stay away from carbonation and meat. I eat slow cause I vomit if I go fast. I do some walking, and excersize. Even though I feel I should be loosing more faster, my doc says I'm doing great! Best thing I've ever done. Honestly, I feel like nothing has changed. Just my eating habits. I was undecided for at least 2 years. But when I finally did it, I was soooo HAPPY!!!!
