Per Op Classroom
Well I went for my class today and got this huge notebook full of great info. I was not aware of so much detail but it is all good. I have started making my shopping list. I have to be on a liquid diet two weeks before surgery and since I am diabetic I have to take glucerna for diabetics twice a day, this stuff is high in calories and it has sugar in it for being made for diabetics I don't get it becasue using the slim fast high protein power is a gram or so less in sugar. But I will do as directed. I was given a sample of the Bene Protein well I put it in my shake and well there was no taste and it blended real well but I might have to find something cheaper.

Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?
mine mentioned it to me said he was thinking about putting his patients on optifast however he need to be a distributor of this first and is not as of yet. I put myself on my liquid diet. I have the high protein slimfast with a chaser of Bene Protein that you can order from Walgreens, it just adds more protein, it has no flavor no lumps or clumps and can use it in just about anything. I eat lots of tuna, salmon and white fish with some lemon on it, SF Jello and SF applesauce and the water oh my goodness if I sneeze just right I might just spring a huge leak. I also bought this tea for all you HEB Grocery folks out there that is where I got it and well it is made for fasting its not that super diet suff but this will help cleanse the liver and ride it of fats but 10 cups a day oh my, so I just double the tea bag. I will find out tomorrow at my pre op class about the optifast and heck isn't that stuff expensive? let me know what everyone is paying. Thank you

Getting banded
Well I am getting banded on Sept 10, Dr. Gayland Sims in Waco Texas. Yep it is down to waiting now I think my nerves will kick in the closer I get to my date. Seen my Doc. yesterday and told her I watched the video that was sent in to the forum by another member and I thought it was very interesting to watch, came un nerved during the sututing of the band to the stomach it was like ouch I acn feel taht by watching it. She asked me if it might have made me change my mind and I said no becasue after viewing both videos it made me feel a lot better as to how things will be done as long as no one slips up and well I have all the confidence in the world with Dr. Sims after all he has our lives in his hands and we cannot control nothing once we are in la la land twilight sleep. Wonder how they sedate you anyway? i mean to they run the sodium penethol through the IV or is it something different now. I alway was put under with that stuff, smalled like onions and garlic and then zoom your out like a light. well anyway just wanted to post this. have a great day and good luck to everyone. Sharon:clap2:

Getting confused
Good Morning everyone well me again and I am getting confused ehre. My Insurance Co approved me for Sept 4 for my surgery and now the Dr. moved it to Sept 10 which means that the Insurance company will have to approve the date change am I correct ? Then I see the Dr. per op on Sept 5 which is wonderful but no one is telling me what kinds of tests will be done on me at that time but since I am going there tomorrow I will try to find out everything. Did anyone have all their tests on the pre op day? like sleep test, ekg, stress test etc or was all that thrown in together or seperate dates for that. I have a good health history according to my attending Dr. seen her yesterday, she said my ticker was in great shape and that all my labs came back as normal especially my liver function tests no the Dr. said she will fax over my new information today to my bariatric center. Guess I am getting nervous I ahd to get an ointment yesterday for the hives yep just a real bundle of nerves. Oh I was never told to start a liquid diet :hungry:before surgery is that normal? Hope someone has the answers for me. Thanks Sharon:clap2:

panniculectomy
Way to go Gayle I have a lopsided one too my left side is pratcially normal but what happened to my right side is unknown to me. I think when I had my hysterestomy that the Dr. might have removed the muscle or something. I am going to see what my sergon says he does plactic surgery so maybe he can do something about this. I have my approval letter from my Health plan and it is going to cover everything pre and post surgery and if something else needs to be done he just has t submit an new claim I guess. It would be wonderful if he could do this when he does my lap Band, heck I will be out light a light anyway. Mine is not huge but it has caused me some tissue breakdowns and rashes and sometimes it oozes but I keep it clean and use cornstartch. Well I am glad that you can see your legs and your feet it must be wonderful not to have that hanging around again and just think what you will look like in pants now. I can see it already. Sharon

New, scared, anxious, and ready
Melissa I just told my boss only because I really thought I would be having my lap band over summer break,,I work for the school district so I had 3 months to hope I would be banded before returning to work well some times things throw you a curve. It is a pretty hush hush place so I doubt if anyone knows about this and if so oh well one of the other gals had the roux-en-y done last October and she has so far lost 200 pounds she started at 410 lbs and she looks real good but not slender as most people would look but she still weighs in at 215 but she is a tall woman but man she looks great and we are all happy for her.

Prwk submitted for insurance approval - Send me all the positive energy you can spare
Ouch is right you poor gal you. I don't have to worry about the apnea thing but I might have to have that nasty upper gi GI sure hope not but it could be worse I guess. The Doc asked me if I ever had to have a tube down my throat well I said no but the only tube I remember is the one they stick down you during surgery called a breathing tube. Who is your Insurnce company? I have firstcare it is a federal employee plan and generally they approve all federal employee plans from what I was told.

Got a date
thanks Julie I am sure going to give this a college try sort to speak. I started out at 270 pounds not proud of that and I am currently at 255 pounds. My game plan is to be 25 pounds lighter before surgery and I thnk I can do it as long as I keep motivated. Sharon

one more month go with supervised diet
This question came up at my seminar back in March so eone asked well what happens if she lost weight before she got approval would this go against her and the Dr, said no so I think it depends on the insurance company. I was approved before my actual 6 month. I discussed this with my Dr. in january but when I went back in Feb. she asked me if I was still considering it and I said yes and thenthat is when she went to work sort to speak. I have a great Dr. here in Killeen, TX and the Bariatric Staff in waco, TX are a bunch of real nice people. I still ahve to go for my pre op appointment and lab tests and what ever else I might have to have before surgery.

wow I cannot believe you had to pay out all that money so far. I ahve paid out let me see 200.00 these are co payments only everything else is included in with the surgery, the pre op, etc. My surgery will run around 17,000 oh plus I have to pay the 150.00 co pay for the hospital but all very well worth it
