On The Verge Of Mental Collapse
How much weight will I lose with a lobotomy?!?! Great words of wisdom, per usual, from PDX and Arts.

Does anyone have a fit bit it similar device ?
I've had a Body Bug and I moved to the Fitbit Flex. I like both. Right now I prefer the Flex because, for me, it's less noticable than wearing an armband. The Flex will connect with your smartphone to give you real time data. The new Fitbit, the Force, looks cool and gives you a read out on the device - I kind of wish I would have waited and gotten the Force. At any rate, they will both monitor your activity - which is cool.

On The Verge Of Mental Collapse
I'm on day 5 of my pre-op diet. While I knew going in that the pre-op diet is not for weight loss, I have enjoyed getting on the scale and seeing a lower number every day...until today. I was bummed, then I had to talk myself down. It isn't for weight loss - it's to shrink your liver so it's not in the way during surgery. Seriously, I know how you feel and I had the bad thoughts this morning about how I failed again. But, when you look at it logically, if you're restricting calories as you are on the pre-op, is there any way you will not lose? The fluctuations will happen - I need to remind myself to not weigh every day. I'm not good when I do that. Best of luck to you, sweetie. Hang in there! Soon you will be melting away.

I start my 10 day liquid on Wednesday
Tiki, I'm on Day 5 of my 14 day liquid diet. I was so worried about it. If you start on Wednesday, my suggestion is to replace one meal a day with a protein shake - it helped me. I wish I would have done that for a longer period of time. What helps me is planning out my day - I'm allowed two shakes and one meal - I plan out the day, noting what times I am going to have a shake. I supplement with some sugar free jello, however, I rely less on it today than I did the first few days. The first 2 days for me sucked - majorly. The third day, surprisingly, I wasn't hungry. Day 4 was tough and today I'm feeling good again. Best of luck to you!

Enabling
So a couple of things I've learned on my pre-op diet... 1. I am a sneaky eater - I would eat when my husband and son would go somewhere. I would tell them I couldn't go with them because I had work to do or something around the house. Then I would eat. 2. I ate a lot out of boredom. I didn't realize the extent of either behavior until I started the pre-op diet and I'm not able to eat. It's really disturbing. But, I'm glad I'm going thru this - it is hard, really hard, but I know I'm getting better, not perfect, better.

I'll take it!!!! :-) I'm down about 3 pounds since I started my pre-op. Listerine and Colgate are my friends!

I smell funny?
I was wondering about this dragon breath I've had for the past few days (I'm on day 4 of the pre-op diet). So far I haven't smelled anything on my body, but sometimes you can't smell yourself with any accuracy.

This diet is very tough
I'm just starting Day 4 of my pre-op diet. Days 1 and 2 sucked - bad. Yesterday was better and today is even better. I'm feeling like I have more energy. I'm allowed 2 shakes (w/ like 4 strawberries) and one meal (lean meat and colorful veggies). I cheated on Halloween by having an extra shake because I was about ready to put my head in the bowl of candy. I knew I wouldn't stop at one, so I didn't give myself the opportunity. Suggestions to those that are going to start on your two week plan - try replacing one meal per day with a shake for a while. That will help you when you have to do your pre-op plan. I also suggest getting off caffeine and refined sugars. I did that 4 weeks prior to surgery.

What's the story behind your profile name?
One of my favorite shows was King of Queens. There was an episode where they referred to Doug as Fatty McButterpants. I thought it was funny. When I had to come up with a screen name, I thought it was appropriate.

don't screw up or else?
I agree with LipstickLady. This is no different than what happens in real life - if you don't like the way a conversation is going, leave. Who cares who gets the last word in. It does not matter.

The Halloween note lady
I would have an issue with this lady handing my kid the note. Just as I did my son's doctor when he came in and without looking at my son said to my husband and me, "Your son is obese." My husband told my son to take off his shirt - he did and showed the good doctor his 6-pack stomach. There is very little fat on him. The problem is he looked a chart and determined he weighed too much for his height - he didn't take a BMI, he looked at the dreaded chart. The doc laughed it off and said, "He obviously isn't obese, he's muscular." The damage was done - when we got to the car, my son was visibly upset. So, this note lady is going to make that determination on her own. "You get candy, you get candy, sorry, honey, you get a note to take home to your parents." If she wants to end childhood obesity, please start an organization, do a 5K walk, but please, it is not your place to single out any child. Most overweight kids, already know they are overweight. Let's not add salt to that wound.

Halloween
I'm on day 2 of my pre-op diet. My husband and son went out late this afternoon to buy the candy and I haven't seen it. I don't know where it is. I don't want to know where it is. I told them there should be no candy in the house after this evening...dispose of every last little Butterfinger (my personal favorite). Instead for my meal tonight, I will have a fillet and some green beans. And I will dream of the Butterfinger.
