  1. Ahh the Great Carb Debate... I agree, not all carbs are created equally. Carbs are not evil, but bad carbs are...bad. I got to 256 pounds because I ate bad carbs and lots of them. Sweets, breads, even bad vegetables (yeah, I'd sit down to a big bowl of sweet corn topped with butter and salt and think I was eating a healthy snack) were my drugs of choice. The more I ate them, the more I wanted them. I decided (on my own) at about 3 weeks out I was eating too many carbs, so I cut down on them. I cut them to between 20-30 grams per day. I started working out harder that week also. Wow, double whammy to my system and I really started to feel drained. Back came the daily naps and really low energy. I didn't link the two together (the low energy w/ the reduction in carbs) because I thought I was getting sick. A couple of weeks later, the lightbulb appeared over my head!!!! I introduced some foods that were complex carbs (a tablespoon of fat free refried Beans, a 1/4 cup of fruit in my shake, things like that). All of a sudden I felt better at 50 carbs per day. I had more energy. My need for naps is disappearing. I'm getting in my 80 grams of Protein and 50 grams of carbs fairly consistently now and I feel great. I'm not saying that is your mix - I had to play with the numbers until I found my correct formula.
  2. I could be because it's that time of the month. Seriously, don't stress over the scale. It's so not worth the anxiety it creates. When you look at how many calories the body burns just being, it's a lot more than you're taking in right now. There is no way you are not losing fat - that's what you want to get right of. You are burning fat, but there are so many more things going on with your body. You could be at the beginning of a stall - I went thru a stall for 13 days between weeks 4 and 5. The scale did not move and it was hard to get thru that. That was when my husband hid the scale and I'm so thankful he did. I knew the stall was going to happen because I've read a thousand threads about it. I wasn't mentally prepared for it. I will be ready for the next one and I know there will be a next one and one after that and one after that, and so on.
  3. Hey, Roo. Great job on the recovery! Keep rockin' that sleeve!
  4. The simple answer is "You didn't gain 5 pounds in one day." In order to gain 5 pounds (in any period of time), you would have had to consume 17,500 more calories than you consumed. Probably not possible with your new tiny tummy, right? You just had major surgery and your body is trying to figure out what you did to it. Your brain wants the scale to move, which it will, once your body figures things out. I have a couple of suggestions - 1. don't weigh yourself every day. It will drive you crazy. My husband hides the scale and brings it out once per week. I've read some docs don't want you to weigh the first month. 2. Stick to your plan - the plan provided by your doctor or NUT. They know best. There is no way you're not losing weight. 3. Be patient - you didn't gain this weight in a month, you can't expect to lose it in a month. Hang in there, sweetie. This isn't a spring, it's a marathon.
  5. And does dishes! I'll show him your pic! You can borrow him for a while...I'll warn you, he's act like a 6'3" teenager most of the time.
  6. OMG - I'm laughing!!!!!! I'm going to take a picture of him doing laundry - he's very sexy when he's Spray & Washing.
  7. Glad I could make you laugh! Have a great weekend, sweetie.
  8. Not sure that's very business-like. But hell, I'll try anything. I forgot to add you need to wear those boots you were talking to Indigo about! Hell yes - I'm that sexy beast in the corner rockin' those red boots! McButter... it was Indigo and I that were talking about the Red Boots Reverie - can you lend your red boots to Lipstick?!?!? LL was probably wondering what I was talking about!
  9. Indigo - you can now say, "I'm that fox chick looks like she got naked with a REAL man recently! Mmmm hmmmmmm!"
  10. Not sure that's very business-like. But hell, I'll try anything. I forgot to add you need to wear those boots you were talking to Indigo about! Hell yes - I'm that sexy beast in the corner rockin' those red boots!
  11. Now you can say, "I'm that sexy minx with the big curly hair. Grrrr"
  12. 13 days between Weeks 4 and 5...it sucked. I would suggest putting the scale away for at least a week if not two weeks. Keep following the plan from your doc and/or NUT. Walk/exercise (if you're cleared). The stall will be a distant memory soon. Best of luck!
  13. Almost made it 5 miles today - another post-op high for me (ran out of time...pesky work!!!). I'm at 8 miles total towards my 85 mile goal. I haven't started lifting yet - that will start next week. Have a great weekend!
  14. For me it's not "falling off" - I take that back, it did fall off the first week maybe two weeks. Since then, I have worked my butt off - I have made exercising a priority in my day, something I neglected to do in the past. I logged 106 miles in November and December (I was sleeved on 11/14) and my goal for January is 85 miles. Is the weight coming off easier than before surgery, absolutely.
  15. Be careful with bananas - they have a high glycemic value. When I eat foods high on the glycemic scale, it makes me want to eat more.
  16. Great statement from your post: Positive - motivated - ready to do this! Have a great day!
  17. Good for you! Action verbs are in your sentences - you've identified your behaviors and you have a plan to do something about it. You got this! I look forward to reading your updates in the weeks to come.
  18. Jdub - I just PM'd my e-mail address to you Weird, I never got any PM's from anybody! Weird - I just tried again from your profile page this time. If that doesn't work, try messaging me with your e-mail address.
  19. I decided to have surgery on 08/21/13. My surgery date was 11/14/13. There were many factors - insurance was submitted in early-September and declined (I expected this). I contacted the doctor I was researching for self-pay and started his process of paperwork, labs he needed, etc. In late-September I scheduled the 11/14 date. I could have selected a date 2 weeks earlier, but 11/14/13 was better for me.
  20. I didn't realize it will link to your Walgreens card! I'll have to check into that. Thanks.
  21. When Metamucil doesn't work, I take Colace for a couple of days (2x per day).
  22. Jdub - I just PM'd my e-mail address to you
  23. I followed up at week 2 - she checked my incisions and we talked about what I needed to do be between weeks 2 and 6. (Along w/ the standard, blood pressure, heart rate, listened to my heart and belly). Consulted w/ dietitian about moving to puree, then soft. Week 6 follow up - they tested my lean muscle mass and body fat and the standard stuff mentioned above. Meeting w/ NUT basically she approved all foods. Labs ordered. If your surgeon allows access to the NUT, you're probably good. My doc had a NUT, but she was impossible to get a hold of. My local doc is a bariatric NUT, so I can discuss that with her as well as their clinic NUT. I like the security of seeing the local doc - that's just me, I'm a nervous Nellie and wanted that aftercare. I've been in contact with people who were self-pay that got no guidance whatsoever - that would bother me.
