1. It's some doctors use them and some don't. Before surgery my doctor told me he uses them, the main reason is to keep a eye out for possible leaks. I've read that leaks happen to people unknowingly and they find out after they get sick. And to drain out fluids that are there after surgery. Your body absorbs the fluid without a drain anyways. And it also reduces infection. Some doctors only use them for 2 days, some one. I've read yesterday about a lady who had 6 after undergoing a full body lift to remove extra skin after weight loss surgery...some people also get them after gall bladder surgery.
2. Good luck! I'm 9days post-op and feel great.
3. Ok. And yes after was such a big relief. I wonder if tonight I can lay on my right side....my favorite side. We shall see!
4. Yes much better!...I have a little update above. Thanks for asking.
5. The clear part of the tube was located outside my stomach....If my doctor wasn't out of town, it would have came out this Monday. I figure my body was pushing it out anyways because its ready to heal. And I'm feeling so much better healing can now continue to take place around the incision.
6. It's not meant to harm or offened anyone, and I wasn't being funny......its not gross, its just a long tube with a bulb at the end.someone may want to see one that never seen one.....because I haven't until I seen mines.....you can just imagine what people want to see on pictures out curiosity....I myself searched many things on google that I want to see such as people that have plastic surgery, before and after weight loss surgery etc...
7. Oh there it go.....just took the tape off, it started coming out, so I helped it. Didn't hurt a bit. Its almost two feet long! If you all want me to upload a picture of it, let me know.
8. Hi everyone!...I was in the ER for maybe one hour then discharged. They taped the drain with steri tape, which came off last night so I taped it down with gauze and tape. My doctor is out of town so I spoke with the doc that takes patients when my doc can't. He said if the drain starts coming out, just let it come out and assured me that it's not a problem, it happens....I'm thinking about removing this gauze and tape and letting it come on out! I need it out...its aggravating and hurts if I hit it. It already started coming out last night but it was pushed back in. Just felt funny being pushed back in. I feel it's hindering my healing. Other than that im doing great and feel great!
9. I'm in the ER...I popped my stitches where my drain is. Not painful at all...somewhat a relief because everytime I bumped or accidentally hit the drain, it hurt like hell! I'm also having alot of pain where my iv was and that actually started yesterday. Oh and btw I loss 12lbs since surgery 9/25. And 10 for pre op. 22lbs in 3weeks!
10. Im a week and a day out. I can almost drink without sipping and it doesn't hurt anymore. I get that gas also. I dont think its stretched out. I probably wouldn't continue to take big gulps, just a little more than a sip

My first NSV

That's great
12. I went through that especially with the ice chips. I let my ice turn into water, drank a sip then puked blood. I think all what your vomiting has to come up, and the nurse told my blood wont digest so it was to come up. But the contrast was the very first thing to stay down and after I finished the leak test I was able to eat, very little, like a popsicle and some juice. I had to take it really easy eating because I felt like I wanted to vomit, but it managed to stay down. A was feeling better and better the more that stood down. That afternoon I was up and about and was able to go home. I also had slacked up on the medicine I was getting through the iv. Dont know if that helped, but they were pumping me up too much with meds. Hang in there, you will get better! Are you vomiting any blood? If so, u might let all that come up and maybe you will be able to keep some stuff down. (My opinion). Try to take short walks every few hrs, it helps. Good luck
13. Update: Lory yes the walking does help! Since I have been up, I've been walking, no gas pains yet and its 1:34pm my time. I feel much better, no need for pain meds as of yet...I figure if I stay in one spot for to long, that will cause gas to build up. Today I started full liquids...I was suppose to start tomorrow, but I ran out of the plain protein powder and I didn't want to miss a day without protein. I'm tolerating it very well, not hungry at all. Couldn't stay off the scale, loss a few pounds since surgery, wondering if the drain is helping with that. Fluids are still comming out the drain, I empty about 1.2 oz every 6-8 hrs. I'm glad this stuff is comming out.....wonder where it woulda went if I didn't have the drain? I hope all is well, and remember, walk, walk, walk!
14. Nausea has gone away, just the gas pains that come every few mins. They hurt like hell!! Food is now a turn off, can't really eat anything. I'm afraid im already dehydrated...
15. Update: These gas pains are ridiculous!! Gas x strips Do Not work! Or they aren't working for me. I need to do a #2 but that isn't happening. I took MOM around 9am, it did nothing but give me extra gas. I have no appetite, can't eat anything. I try to keep up with water. I have been on this same cup of jello allday....I don't want to force anything down that doesn't want to go down. Besides the gas pains, I'm doing ok. Walking throughout the house at least every hour that I'm awake. I guess this is what recovery feels like. I wanna get past this part, wish I could have skipped through it. Btw my temperature was 99.7 and if it gets to 100 I have to go to the ER. I'm in prayer....
