I completed pre admission testing and final meeting with NUT today. My doctor says no straw, I will go home with a drain, leaving the hospital on full liquids after a three day stay. Do not have to do a pre op diet, just Clear Liquids day before. Have to practice building lungs at home with a spirometer, and on morning of surgery bathe or shower and then wipe your stomach with antiseptic wipes twice (he provided packages of these). I will take lovanox shots because I had blood clots previously and take Coumadin. Can't wait for Oct. 22.

I am 68and will be sleeved on Oct. 22. No one has mentioned any age limit but there is a group of folks on here that are in their 70's. Look in "age specific gastric sleeve groups". Good luck. I definitely felt this was the best surgery for me at this time.

You are the only one who knows what will be best for your body and your life. I have friends who had the sleeve or RNY. After three to five years they gained a little weight (5-15 lbs.) and they feel like this is ultimately where they belong. My doctor has set my goal at 140 after I'm sleeved in two weeks. I'm going for it!

Hey everyone. My date is October 22nd. I noticed a couple of people' date=' Lucky T and 1SuperBonBon. I have Dr. Kim. My pre op is on the 16th so I don't know my time yet. I am so excited. No pre op diet. He just told me to continue with what I've been doing to lose the weight. I am so excited![/quote']Hi, you and I are sleeve sisters. I am October 22 also. Pre op testing is Oct. 10. I won't know until then if and how long I would have to do a pre op diet. But I have cut back and have been trying shakes and bars. Good luck.

I'm 68 yrs old and had my Sleeve on Sept 16th. Ive had a few issues such as diareah but it does seem to be getting better now that I started the Puree portion of the diet. It is so exciting to have "normal" foods even though they are pureed. (By the way' date=' the only pain I experienced through the entire hospital stay and after was when they put the IV in me prior to surgery!!) I do get lightheaded when I get up in the mornings but all is ok after I get some Protein in my body. Life is good and only getting better![/quote']Hi, I am 68 also and am being sleeved October 22. I am so glad to read your posts. I am trying to lose weight before the surgery and I have tested out lots of Protein shakes, powders, bars to find my favorites.i know you will be great. I have had back surgery and want to benefit from weighing less.

Hey everyone! I'm wondering if any of you have experience or have heard of plastic surgery in Mexico or Colombia? A friend of a friend's father went to Colombia for his gastric bypass and was very pleased with his care and results. This person comes from a Colombian background. I was lucky to have my sleeve completely paid for by my insurance. I was sleeved 3.11.13 and I've lost more than 200 pounds! As you can imagine' date=' there is skin everywhere. I'm thankful for my health, but I was hoping to start dating, but I am grossed out by my own body. My Dr. is willing to play ball regarding my stomach area( I did have infections, not lately though ). But I think I need a 360 body lift? Believe me when I say, it's not just my stomach that is a problem. And I really don't make the kind of for regular plastics in the U.S. Any thoughts, ideas, and advice would be appreciated! Thanks, Nicky[/quote']I have not had any experience with the doctors there. My good friend just had the "mommy makeover"'. Tummy Tuck, breast lift and reduction, and liposuction. She researched on a site, www.myrealself.com." There is list of information for Mexico, Dominican Republic, etc. good luck.

Congrats to you and your husband. I believe once he has a chance to have it marinade' date=' he will get on board. My hubby is thin but has high blood pressure, high cholesterol and is pre-diabetic. I have none of those but I have a high BMI. I just passed my Psych exam. Woohoo![/quote']Yay! You're one step closer!

Finally going home! They took my jp drain out a few minutes ago' date=' and it was so gross! There was 2-3 inches of ribbed white plastic on the end of it. Felt really weird coming out. Glad to be going home for sure. Hope everyone else is doing well[/quote']Glad you are going home. Rest well.

Hi powder keg, I understand about your daughter. I am older, 68, and my daughter is trying to accept that I am going to do third. My son and grandson are fine. I haven't told my best friend because she is adamantly against the surgery. I have other issues and want to enjoy these later years of my life. You will be great .

Funny you mention the bougie. I don't know what size he used. I guess it doesn't matter now. I have to give it more time to work. I only lost 22 lbs since 8/20. Feeling like thats miniscule and that I'm doing something wrong.I think it will work out. However for those of us waiting to be sleeved, 22 lbs. since 8/20 sounds great. That is about 3.5 lbs. a week. I hope I do as well.

I just thought about this after reading this thread. I normally have Thanksgiving at my house, which is the largest. It is important that I have it again as this will be our first Thanksgiving without my mother and the others grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt. I will cook the Turkey and make gravy & stuffing. I will ask the others to bring sides. I will just be four weeks out from surgery . I hope I can have a taste of gravy and a well puréed vegetable.

I just thought of my other hates. I hate that when I am on vacation, I'm over the weight limit for things like "parasailing" or when cruising I can't sign up for certain shore excursions because again I'm over the weight limit.

Just wondering, for those that have had surgery, were you given antibiotics in the hospital, or given some to stave off infection when at home?

I had a total of 11 surgeries because of the sleeve...only one time I knew what was happening...I felt almost the entire surgery...But managed to make some kind of sound and that is all I remember for about the 7 hours I was out.. I felt them pulling the stents out of my sleeve and then when I made the sound I heard them say..WTF and that was it... I talked to the surgeon after and he said it would not happen again....And for the rest of the surgeries it didn't...I thought it was funny when I heard them say WTF though....lolololI recently had a procedure for pulmonary embolisms and the nurse told me, but I didn't realize it, that she gave me 5 shots of versed in my IV and I never went fully to sleep. Luckily the procedure didn't require major cutting. I am being sleeved on the 22nd and I definitely plan to share this with my surgeon and the anesthesia staff.
Glad she felt comfortable enough to share here.
