    October GS Pals?..

I completed pre admission testing and final meeting with NUT today. My doctor says no straw, I will go home with a drain, leaving the hospital on full liquids after a three day stay. Do not have to do a pre op diet, just clear liquids day before. Have to practice building lungs at home with a spirometer, and on morning of surgery bathe or shower and then wipe your stomach with antiseptic wipes twice (he provided packages of these). I will take lovanox shots because I had blood clots previously and take Coumadin. Can't wait for Oct. 22.

    Is Age a factor ?

I am 68and will be sleeved on Oct. 22. No one has mentioned any age limit but there is a group of folks on here that are in their 70's. Look in "age specific gastric sleeve groups". Good luck. I definitely felt this was the best surgery for me at this time.

    when to stop? my answer

You are the only one who knows what will be best for your body and your life. I have friends who had the sleeve or RNY. After three to five years they gained a little weight (5-15 lbs.) and they feel like this is ultimately where they belong. My doctor has set my goal at 140 after I'm sleeved in two weeks. I'm going for it!

    October Sleevers - Who else

I who'll be sleeved Oct. 22 and have my pre-op testing Oct. 10. I'm waiting to see how many, if any, days I will be on clear liquid.
  12. Hi powder keg, I understand about your daughter. I am older, 68, and my daughter is trying to accept that I am going to do third. My son and grandson are fine. I haven't told my best friend because she is adamantly against the surgery. I have other issues and want to enjoy these later years of my life. You will be great .
  13. I think it will work out. However for those of us waiting to be sleeved, 22 lbs. since 8/20 sounds great. That is about 3.5 lbs. a week. I hope I do as well.

    2013 Holidays

I just thought about this after reading this thread. I normally have Thanksgiving at my house, which is the largest. It is important that I have it again as this will be our first Thanksgiving without my mother and the others grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt. I will cook the Turkey and make gravy & stuffing. I will ask the others to bring sides. I will just be four weeks out from surgery . I hope I can have a taste of gravy and a well puréed vegetable.
  15. I just thought of my other hates. I hate that when I am on vacation, I'm over the weight limit for things like "parasailing" or when cruising I can't sign up for certain shore excursions because again I'm over the weight limit.
