Vickybli got a reaction from Chylyn7 in Things I will NOT miss about being fat.
    I won't miss:
    1. not having the energy to get out of bed in the morning
    2. sleep apnea
    3. people looking at me with pity
    4. or worse - when they say "you have such a pretty face ..."
    5. complete strangers stopping me in the street to ask about my medical condition
    6. relying on others to do the shopping for me because I can't walk the 4 blocks to the grocery store
    7. needing help to get on and off buses
    8. people offering me their seats in public transport like they would for senior citizens
    9. not wearing socks because i can't bend down enough to put them on
    10. being turned down at job interviews although i have more than enough qualifications.
and everything everyone else wrote. the list is endless

IT happens to all of us. Some more than others. Everyone's different. Some people lose steadily and some lose a lot of weight and then stall. What matters is the overall in the end. Don't weigh yourself all the time or you;ll drive yourself crazy. As for the the slimming as Beaglelover says all you can do is take very small bites and try to notice if some foods cause it more than others. You'll find that you can't tolerate all the foods any more. Again it;s different for everyone. Good luck.

Vickybli got a reaction from BeagleLover in Why did you choose VGS instead of Bypass and any regrets.
I chose the sleeve to avoid all the complications of the bypass. I was extremely obeese and my doctor said the bypass is a much more traumatising procedure for the body and too dangerous to do in my case. Even with the sleeve I spent 4 days in ICU (as a precaution - luckily there were no complications) He did tell me that I might not lose all the weight with the sleeve and we may need to do a bypass later. I have been stuck now for over 5 months and he tells me that I probably reached the limit of what I can hope to lose with the sleeve as i've lost more than the average sleever but I have no regrets. I feel fine and my bloodwork is perfect with no supplements. I;m still overweight but since I;m no longer hungry and i can work out now im confident i can work on losing some more.
Since your BMI is not very high and your doctor says the procedure will work for you I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you - I would definitely choose the less invasive solution.

You CAN have ice cream as long as it's sugar free and sugar free Jello and pop sickles. In a couple of months you will be able to make your own cakes using stevia. Happy birthday.

yes, its very normal to have days like these. it gets much better later on - after 3-4 months and its probably just a blood vessel from the vomiting which is also very normal, i had these too but its always a good idea to consult with your doctor when anything at all gets you worried. better be on the safe side.

your doc is an idiot. doesn't he know that every person is different? i lost tons of weight at the beginning and now at around one year out i've been in a 3 month stall but my doc is very encouraging she says as long as i stick to the program it will come off eventually. besides the scale isnt everything - i dropped 1 dress size even though i havent lost a pound in these 3 months and i can walk and move a lot easier - and 1 pound a day is alot of weight to lose youre doing great!

Vickybli got a reaction from lookingfwd2beinghealthyagn in How the heck do you keep your carbs under 50 when a banana is 30 carbs?!
Once you're on full solids you can start experimenting to see what agrees with you. The trick is to introduce a bite of one new food at a time to see if it goes dowm well. Don't start with a complex salad with dressing because if something bothers your sleeve you won't know what it is. Remember your stomach is still recovering. I could eat some things like lettuce and cucumbers at the second month but it was five months before i could eat tomatoes and raw onions. dressings are still questionable i only use olive oil and balsamic vinigar or greek yougurt with some spices

Don't worry too much about carbs as long as you avoid starchy foods and sugars you'll be ok. If you eat Protein first and get your carbs from veggies you can't fit much more anyway. Now seriously can you eat a whole banana? that means you havent eaten any protein first. If you eat a couple spoonfuls of greek yougurt and/or some nuts you cant get more than 1/2 a banana down

I agree with the others here. Before the op anyone I asked told me it was a breeze. I'm sure they meant well and wanted to be supportive but I went through the first two months constantly worried and regretting every minute. I think we should know it's hard work and be prepared. It's still totally worth it

What do you mean you haven't lost any weight? According to your profile you've lost more than 60 pounds. That's quite a lot of weight actually. you can't compare yours to profiles like mine because you don't have that much extra weight to begin with. If you mean you;ve stalled - that's something that happens to all of us all the time. I;ve had several, the last one lasted 7 weeks. Totally frustrating but totally normal. If you stick to your fitness and diet plans you will start losing again.
    Hang in there.

Vickybli got a reaction from Susan-031314 in Giving Up your favorite foods
I haven;t given up anything. I just need a lot less than I used to and I make a point of eating "bad" foods only when I really want them. so I don't have them lying around the house where I can just reach out and take them and I don't order out. I figure if I want something enough to get out and buy it then it won't hurt if I have a couple of bites. My weak spot has always been sweets so I just make my own light sugar free versions. I substitute fresh fruits and stevia for sugar and mashed bannanas for butter and they still taste great.
Don't worry you'll find a way around your weaknesses. None of us were good at sticking to diets in the past or we wouldn't have needed to get sleeved.

You know you have to follow your Nut's instructions. Nothing we can tell you here is more important than what your health providers tell you. Only they know what's right for you. Ask her for more specific instructions. If you still can;t follow them you should seriously consider therapy. Remember the goal is to be healthy not just thin. Wishing you the best.

Vickybli got a reaction from darneka1 in Hunger Pains
I was just like you and that was my main concern too. I could understand the physical hunger going away but what about the psychological hunger? Well, I don't know how or why this works but it does. food is simply no longer an issue. I'm not anorexic, I want to eat and I enjoy my food but I'm happy with a lot less and I can make all the good choices without feeling the compulsive need for sugar and carbs. It's not all easy - there are days when my stomach acts up and when I vomit but these are becoming less and less frequent and it;s nothing compared to the feeling of being able to take charge of my life again. So talk it over with your surgeon and find the right procedure for you. Good luck

Vickybli got a reaction from BeagleLover in a streched stomach pouch?
There's no way you streched your pouch so soon after the surgery. It's natural to be able to eat more after a while and you will be able to eat even more in a couple of months. All natural. Your stomach is healing that's why your appetite comes and goes. We all have stalls all the time. I;ve just come out of one that lasted 7 weeks. Of course it's frustrating and of course i didn;t like it but when it happens we just have to remain focused and remember it's the way our bodies work. As soon as the stall fininshed I started loosing fast again. I was sleeved at the end of June 2013 and I can't even tell you how much my life has changed. Hang in there and everything will be fine. Just follow your nut's instructions and never be discouraged

Here are my latest pictures. I was at I think 383 on the day of surgery (down from a high weight of 410 a couple of months prior to that - prior to surgery I started replacing as many meals as I could with Protein drinks). So 4/3/13, 6 months out and then yesterday, 1 year post op. I've lost 209 pounds. I am currently 201, so I'm excited to get below 200 for the first time probably since high school.
