  1. Oh man, got discharged a couple of hours ago, showered and am now relaxing with some broth and apple juice. Surgery went well, no issues whatsoever and the nurses were outstanding. The best care i've had in a long time. Save for being on my period and not being able to shower at the hospital i'd rate it an A+. Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences, it kept me calm and i burst out when I had similar experiences to others such as swallowing the blue dye (no leaks!) then peeing a blue-ish greenish color or passing loud gas after doing several laps.

My belly is still sore and the incisions make my stomach look weird but i'm currently working on walking around, staying hydrated and getting the Protein in. Looking forward to getting off the hydracodone and getting to pureed foods.

P.S. I believe I saw a fellow VST'er in the hospital as I walked about, we have the same doctor, our dates were a day apart so I DM'ed but that would be funny.

  2. I'm getting sleeved today. Woke up, said a prayer and taking it easy before I have to head to the hospital. Feeling calm, excited and nervous at the same time. VST has been a major help in my decision to have surgery and played a great role in helping me get prepared and setting expectations. Thanks to everyone who responded to my posts, I feel ready for this. LET'S DO THIS!

P.S Going under at 1:30PM Pacific time so please send your prayers/good thoughts my way. Thanks and looking forward to returning as a fellow sleever!

  3. But not in the way you think!

Look I'm not one of these assholes that thinks this is the easy way out or there's a right way to lose weight but as my surgery looms on Monday I can't help but wonder if I tried hard enough to lose weight on my own.

Months ago, if you'd told me to go on a liquid diet I would have told you to go f**k ourself. No way on earth I thought I would be able to endure the liquid diet and yet I did and lost 25 pounds. I'm looking forward to the positive lifestyle changes And weight loss that VSG will bring but even at my goal weight I don't think I'll be able to get over the fact that it had to come this. Oddly also feel I will regret not having tackled this weight issue and thought of VSG earlier as my 20s were essentially lost battling my weight, feeling isolated and not having much of a social life. Youth wasted!

Maybe because there's a stigma about weight loss surgery I dunno. As much as I'm looking forward to being sleeved, I'm hating that I have to.

    Anyone feel like this?

  4. I've always hated going to the doctor because any ache or pain was always due to weight. It's like they couldnt look past the weight, assess the symptoms and treat you. Hated, hated, hated it. It's one of the reasons i never went frequently. Fortunately i dont get sick much but I have to wonder how many often they misdiagnose people because of this BS behavior. Anyone else deal with this?

  5. Had an aha moment yesterday.

So I'm currently on the liquid diet and went in for my final checkup before surgery as I had gained 10 pounds after my 1st visit and the doc wanted me to lose 20 before surgery. Anyway they weighed me and turns out I've lost 22 pounds since starting the liquid diet and I have a few more days on it before surgery.

I was so happy and relieved to have met the goal so as I'm drive home this thought pops in my mind of getting some food.....Wonton Soup or pho to Celebrate. Of course I said hell no and drove straight home but it made me think about my relationship with food. I don't think I'm going to be able to eat like this anymore and I'm sad yet happy. Looking forward to eating to live....with the occasional treat I imagine ;)

  6. I can have any food I want to at this point- I have no food issues after surgery. However, I choose not to drink any carbonated beverages or alcoholic beverages, and I choose not to eat gluten which eliminates a bunch of the "naughty" foods like bread, Pasta, Cookies, cake, etc., and I also choose not to eat dairy products. I am physically able to eat them, and I definitely enjoy eating them, but I have decided to follow a Paleo diet for health reasons, and it is working really well for me.

Awesome this is great to hear. It's sound like post VSG your cravings for the bad stuff have gone away, this is great stuff. Congrats! Also we seem to have started this journey at similar weights, how much did you lose the 1st month?

  7. Hi! My surgeon is also Dr. Zare. I am scheduled for Nov. 26 to be sleeved. How's the liquid diet? Is it super hard. Where can I purchase them? Let me know how the surgery goes and what your biggest obstacles are. Good luck!!

Hi ya, the liquid diet isn't too bad. They ease you in the beginning first replacing Breakfast then lunch then full liquids with only healthy foods so I just ate salads. They'll give you the shakes so no need to purchase. You can have everything I listed earlier and they recommend just Water and Crystal Light so that's what I've been using. It's tough but I've been distracted myself with work, also I binged like crazy before starting so I guess I fulfilled my cravings and I'm now super focused. Also the Jello and yogurt has been a huge help.

All in all, tough but doable

  8. Just got back from my pre-op appnt and i'm so annoyed with myself. I knew the liquid diet was going to take care of the 10-15 pound required weight loss so just ate whatever for the past months. Now ive gained 10 pounds. Doc wasn't happy with the weight gain and wanted me to lose that in addition to the original 10 pounds. Thankfully its just made me more resolved to stick to the liquid diet. No more fooling around. I guess its just Optifast shakes, Soups and Healthwise drinks for the next 2 weeks. I can and will do it!
