What was the final thing that you encountered that made you say this is enough? I have had numerous.
    1. Leaving a wife and 2 sons, Husbandless and fatherless.
    2. Not being able to get on amusement park rides with my sons.
    3. Not being able to take my wife to a concert, because i could not fit in a seat.
    4. Avoiding restuarant, movie theaters and sports complexes with tiny seats.
For me, walking through a a department store and some little child looking at me like im a alien had to be one the hardest things.
    Respectfully,
    Joe

6 yrs 1 month and 16 days ago you changed my life and I want to thank you for that. I would have never got to where I am without you. We've had a good run of it though as with any relationship we've had our ups and downs. You've been my best friend and my worst enemy but I've never once regretted knowing you. its bittersweet but this love/hate relationship is not working for me anymore. Tomorrow we must part ways though please don't take it personally. Ill never forget all you've done for me but I have to do what's right for me and my health. Goodbye old friend. Hello new friend ...I'm hoping that Iv made the right decision and anxious to start a new chapter.. Surgery tomorrow at 12:30 ????????????

I had my sleeve done a week ago today, and I didn't want to weigh myself because I hear weighing yourself every day just makes you crazy, butttttt I went to see my aunt at the doctor's office she works at and I couldn't resist. IM DOWN 16 POUNDS!!!! HOLY MOLY! I'm so happy, and glad that all this is already paying off. I feel great. I haven't had any nausea, I've been getting my 64oz of Water in, yes, I'm over the liquid diet, but I have my post op appointment on Thursday. Something to look forward to. I just wanted to share my joy with everyone today, and hope you guys are having an amazing Monday!

I had my surgery 3 days ago at Nova hospital with Dr. Kelly. I cannot say enough good things about both the Dr. and the hospital. Dr. Kelly is a very wonderful, smart, skilled surgeon whom I truly admire. He's been to see me numerous times already and I expect to see him one last time before I leave. He also spent time with my mother to reassure her and that meant the world to the both of us. When I arrived at the hospital, I was disappointed as it looked shabby. But the inside was immaculately clean and organized and very well run. All of the nurses were wonderful and attentive. Some spoke broken English and others none at all but that was never an issue. They would be in to check bp and IV fluids very regularly, to change the bed linens or to just to see how I was feeling. Very impressed with the whole experience.
I had A LOT of gas immediately after the procedure, which was terrible to say the least. So there was a ton of buyers remorse along with that. I also had nausea and did vomit twice. That may have come from the pain meds, not too sure, but it sucked. The next night was SO MUCH BETTER , I slept the whole night and i felt like a new person. Now I have minor gas pains and a couple of weepy moments thinking of the long road ahead. But I'm sure that once I start seeing results and am able to eat mushies, it will all be worth it. Looking very forward to that!
Just thought I'd share my story because I know how much I enjoyed reading everyone else's while still in the pre op stage

I'm back, my surgery on Tuesday went very well according to Dr. Reich. 2-weeks on the pre-op diet reduced my liver's size making the operation a "breeze". Woke up in recovery without a foley and was admitted to recovery by 5 o'clock. Needless to say I was still groggy from the anesthesia and NPO. My friendly morphine drip took over pain management as the anesthesia wore off.
Wednesday morning I passed my barium swallow x-ray leak test and was granted liquids. Parched, I attacked the "broth" like a man lost in the desert - drinking too much too soon and paying the pain price. Having learned my lesson, I slowed down on the liquids to 3 oz/hr. My morphine drip was still there to take the EDGE off my pain and lull me to sleep. I also has a fast flowing saline IV pumping me full to avoid dehydration.
Thursday morning came bright and early. My friendly morphine drip and IV went back to storage and I prepared for discharge. My doctor's team briefed me on post-op meds for indigestion, nausea, and my old meds. I was ready to take my new stomach home and begin my re-training. Eventually I was able to get to sleep, using a small pillow to support my abdomen.
This morning I awoke with limited gas (CO2) pains and began day-1 of my clear liquid diet despite the growling from down below. I have started doing my walking laps to take care of the associated uncomfortable digestion that feels like my stomach is churning. No regrets and have misplaced 2-3 pounds - likely the 80% of my stomach that was removed on Tuesday.
All in all, I have no regrets, so far, in taking the leap to have a sleeve.
Note: My Doctor told me that my pre-op dieting was directly responsible for my operation being less complicated and likely to speed up my recovery!!!

I finally told my kids, my son is so positive and supportive my daughter feels like I should try another diet this will be a life change. I have issues with my health insurance from work. Pretty much they have told me do something drastic to bring down your BMI under 40 or you will not be able to afford the insurance or they might drop you. Because of 2014 Obamacare, I was very sick last year with a brain aneurysm, the insurance thinks it was because of being over weight. I think it was from taking 1600 Motrin and I have always had low blood pressure. Oh well, my surgery is scheduled for Sept 4th. UGH I am scared.

By all means seek out other opinions! I tried three years ago to have surgery and a psychologist pulled the plug. I had basically given up. When my insurance changed at the end of last year, I had to get a new primary physician and in fact that physician suggested the surgery.

Everyone has to decide for themself, but here is my input. I am 64. In my 30's I lost 76 pounds and reached goal with WW. In my 40's I lost 115 pounds and neared goal with a hospital-supervised liquid diet. Dozens of other times I would lose 30 - 50 pounds on various progras. I was even a WW leader for a number of years. But I am a food addict and every time I gained it all back plus more. When I turned 60 I reached 300 pounds for the first time. I decided I want to live an be healthy and the only way to do this is to get this weight off for good. I was sleeved June 6 and for the first time I am hopeful and encouraged for the future y sleeve is only a tool I know, but it won't allow me to binge, and it makes me only want to eat Protein and other healthy food. My only regret: I waited 30 years to do this (of course it wasn't an option when I was young) But you have the opportunity to change your life forever! Whatever you decide, get the weight off, keep it off, nd start living! Best wishes to you!
