    February 2019 weight loss buds

Yes! I’ve really just started walking regularly and I’ve bought a rowing machine that will be delivered today. I’m hoping to see better results. I just need to be careful with nighttime eating. I keep calories between 600-800, carbs under 30, surly to God this weight is going to come off! I hate to say it, but I actually lost better on my own prior to surgery eating much more. I’m can’t reconcile that in my mind, but I’m trying to convince myself it’s just because my body is healing and adjusting.

Froufrou- what kind of protein are you having a hard time with? Just meats or is it meats, eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese etc? Sld- I agree on the salads! I put my protein in/on my salad, about 1 1/2-2oz and was able to finish it both times I had it. I haven’t had any issues either, except of course getting food stuck which was user error on my part, lol. My weight has been stalled for a week, but I’m 8 weeks out and have lost 27lbs so far since surgery. Not exactly breaking any records. I’m hoping the weight loss pics up a bit when this stall breaks.

Gottajustdoit- I didn’t have any iceberg lettuce in the salad. I’ve read that one is hardest for most to digest. The salad was a little smaller than most side salads, of course it’s really tiny once it’s chewed up, lol. I ended up eating a salad for dinner as well but I used skinny girl poppy seed dressing, it has less calories than the other one.

Froufrou- it’s certainly a learning process! Today I decided to give salad a try. I used a mix of baby spinach and spring mix, a few peas, red onion, sprinkle of cheese and 1 1/2 oz grilled chicken with a T of breannas cilantro lime dressing. It has set well and one plus is that it took me a while to eat it. It was delicious! I think I’ll be doing a salad each day from now on. Hopefully it helps with bathroom issues as well.

Was it dumping? Or like me, not chewing enough and not eating slow enough?

Sheri- I think you did great resisting the urge to eat! It’s not easy. Maybe your body just needed a calorie up day. I just got back from a 2 mile walk with the last part being up hill and I am beat, lol. I’m going to hop in the shower, then relax and drink a protein drink. Hoping that keeps me from a snack tonight.

Recidivist- I’m noticing the skin mostly in my arms so far, but I know it’s going to bad. I try to remind myself that I didn’t look good in clothes or naked at my high weight, at least I’ll look good in clothes at goal, lol. It’s not like I was running around naked proud of the way I looked at 268lbs, so no change there.

I did ok with the patty last night. It was just over 3oz raw, then grilled and I ate about 2/3rds of it last night, then had the rest for lunch. I even ate it with sf ketchup, but I wasn’t being mindful of chewing and slowing down, which is a big problem for me.

Oh, I’m sure I could get away with grazing and my pouch wouldn’t stop me. I’m just going to have to be extra diligent or I fear I will never get to goal.

Omg, for lunch I reheated my leftover part of my dinner, hamburger patty, and I ended up eating it too fast or not chewing it enough, maybe both, but good grief that was miserable. 2 hours! My pouch does not let me throw up, so I just had to wait it out. Lord, when will I learn!!

I like the Quest bars. I was actually trying to steer clear until I get closer to goal but the other night I was out of town and picked one up at a convenience store fully intending to eat half, but I easily ate the whole darn thing and it went down just fine. After I tried a few almonds and did fine with them I allowed myself to eat to many too often, so I’m cutting them out for now. I apparently still cannot be trusted, lol.

Dub this is not just for reporting success, but struggles as well. We can all benefit from reading about both. You are doing great, dust yourself off and start fresh.

Congrats to all of you surpassing milestones! I’ve been at 203 for the last 5 days, hoping to see a drop soon. I’ve been experimenting with teas and sf Torani syrups today. I think my favorite so far is Tazo Passion with the lemonade drink stick added and the Passion with Raspberry syrup. As I get further out and the newness is wearing off I find myself with the head hunger struggle more and more. I had a couple of servings of nuts the last day or 2 and have decided I’m not mentally ready for snack type foods and I plan to save nuts mostly for maintenance.

I’m past the age to be having my cycle, but I have read many posts about cycles coming early, often and long as well as other changes after surgery. I’m sure there’s an adjustment period as our hormones are all over the place following surgery as well as all the hormones that are released with fat breaking down.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

I’m 7 weeks and 2 days out and have lost 27lbs since surgery. I haven’t had any long stalls, but have had 2x where I didn’t lose for 4-5 days straight. Hopefully that means my body adjusts fairly quickly.

Sheri, I am in the 3lb a week club too. Don’t get me wrong, 3lbs a week is good and will get me where I want to be, but it would be nice every few weeks to get a 4 or 5 lb loss, just for excitement.

I also am losing 3lbs a week and I too am hoping for at least 1 “bigger” loss week ever so often, but so far 3lbs is what I’m losing. I am thankful for steady weight loss though. I have 60 lbs to go until goal, so it doesn’t sound so bad when I think of it like that.

    For best results....

Question for vets...I’m 6 weeks out, getting all my fluids, protein in and carbs about 20g. I’m wanting to make sure I’m getting maximum weight loss in these first 6 months (I’m a revision and terrified of not being successful this time) but I see conflicting information about either keeping calories low (around the 600 mark) or eating more to get calories in the 800-1000 range because “your not eating enough”. What is your experience when in the losing phase?

    For best results....

“TRIAL AND ERROR Go with the plan laid out for you by your Team and revise it if needed. Usually low cal will do it but also switching things up when you think you need to. Revision results are different from 1st time surgeries. Some say slower. But you can still achieve great results in the long run.” Thank you. So far my weight loss with revision is the same as I lost with the sleeve. My team guidelines say under 1000 calories and under 50 carbs, but honestly that just seems high to me and I’m hoping to no not waste time eating much to find out it doesn’t work for me. By the same logic I don’t want to eat too little either, lol.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Just returned from a weekend family (3 of our adult kids who live out of state, sister in law and the kids friends) trip to Las Vegas. I’m feeling like I need an accountability post.... 6 weeks out, I brought a cooler with Power aid zero, protein drinks, yogurt, cheese and other protein foods that barely got touched. I ended up eating in the buffet twice with the family. I did make decent choices, sticking to protein, few carbs and no sugar but probably ate more that I should have. At another restaurant I didn’t order food and just ate bites from my family’s plates...more carbs than I normally eat for sure. I also ate 1/2 of a KFC chicken thigh including the breading on the long drive home....way too much grease and sat like a rock in my pouch. I was never much of a drinker at home, occasionally socially, but in Vegas tequila shots were the norm. Well not now, I didn’t do any shots but I did however have Captain Morgan and water with Mio style pineapple/mango drops consistently while playing slots....we played a lot of slots. The alcohol did seem to take effect quicker, but I drank slow and free Vegas drinks are not strong, so I was good. I was cautious and mindful though to be extra aware. So....Today I’m feeling like I’ve been on shaky ground and it’s time to get back to WLS reality. Priority number 1 is to make sure I get in 80oz plus of water, make sure my food is all protein, no carbs and keep calories in the 600 range. I was so happy to spend time with the kids. I don’t get to see some of them very often, but I’m not thrilled with way I handled my responsibilities as a WLS patient.
