  1. Do you happen to know what kind of tests are run to see if a band is slipped (although you said they couldn't tell if yours was)....?

I am going to see what happens with this band-thing. It makes me crazy! After I eat, especially in the evenings, i get this gall bladder pain. sometimes it's unbearable.

I would love a weight loss buddy! Private message me, if you can, and we can come up with a plan :) Or direct email me - AndreaRA93@gmail.com

I did a barium swallow and was told it was in place. I had an endoscope and was told my band was in place. It was only when I had surgery that they finally told me that it had slipped. It was VERY frustrating!

  2. Has anyone else had a total thyroidectomy since your banding? If so, how are you doing with your weight loss since the surgery? Any input would be helpful! I had my thyroid surgery almost a month ago...and was banded in September.

I had my thyroid removed in Aug of last year. I am just now getting my thyroid replacement meds adjusted. I gained a lot because I went from hyper to hypo. I am on 225mg of Synthroid now and hopefully I've finally hit the right mark!

  3. So, did/do you have to go through the same process to get the gastric bypass (primary care approval/referral, etc.)

I had been getting gall stones pain about a year ago (i had no gall bladder, though). Turned out i had band dilation so they emptied it. I gained about 35 lbs back (UGH). Now, I'm starting to get that gall stones pain again (still no gall bladder :) ) and was told i may have a slipped band. I've been thinking about switching over to gastric bypass but don't want to have to go through the entire process again.

I hope all goes well with you. God Bless :)

    Andrea

I do have to go through the process all over again. I have a friend that also had problems with her lapband and she got a gastric bypass about 2 mos ago and she wishes she had gone with the gastric to start off with. I'm fine with that since my college classes start next week and I will be in school until April. I am going to try and lose weight until then, but if all else fails, then I am moving forward with the gastric. I am VERY glad that I had the lapband removed. The scar tissue was definitely not a good thing and would have gotten better. Had I known a 100% that my lapband would not be able to be replaced I would have gotten the tests and all of that done before having the lapband removed, but I guess everything happens for a reason. Good luck and if you need a weight loss buddy, let me know. :)

  4. I had my band put in on July 8, 2008. It worked great and I was 100% free of heartburn until last year. Last year I got a violent stomach flu and threw up for the first time since getting my band in. I went back to my Dr and he did a barium swallow and said that the band had NOT slipped. He took all of the Fluid out. Still had heartburn and ended up with an endoscope. Still said band was in place. Well this week I went in to have my hiatel hernia repaired and the band replaced. There was so much scar tissue that he could not replace the band and YES, it had slipped. I am not getting ready to start the journey on gastric bypass.

  5. Here I am at the walk of shame. Was banded on July 8, 2008. I lost about 50 pounds and then I got the stomach flu last year and started throwing up and my band slipped. My Dr took all of the Fluid out, but I still have horrible heartburn and I have a huge hiatel hernia, so I am scheduled for surgery on Jan 4, 2011. It's not all the stomach flu part. I have just fallen into old patterns that got me where I was to begin with. It is really embarrassing to be starting all over again. I need a mentor! I have got to get this weight off once and for all!

  6. Before my surgery in July 2008, I suffered from GERD and a hiatel hernia. Since my surgery I have been off Prilosec 100% because the issues were gone. About 4 weeks ago I got the stomach flu and had horrible vomiting, the first I have had since the surgery. My Dr did an upper GI on Fri and it didn't show anything, so he basically just removed the Fluid from my band. I've regained almost all of my weight, and he tried to sell me on gastric bypass surgery, which I refuse to have done. I am having an upper GI on Wed. It's just hard for me to believe that the stomach flu, throwing up, and now having the acid reflux is not related.

  7. I started out at a size 22, and am still wearing VERY loose size 20, and have ordered some size 18's. Still scared about trying them on, but excited at the same time. I also ordered a bunch of J Jill clothes today (they are having a HUGE sale) and ordered size XL tops instead of 2X!!! If they are a little snug when I get them, there is no way they are going back, because they are way too cute!

Went to the movies tonight with the kids and did NOT eat junk food!!! Was very tempted to get fast food on the way home, but I ate a salad once I got home. I CAN do this and I WILL do this.

Isn't it exciting to be starting out the new year with our tool already in place?! :cursing:

  8. I finally got off my butt and got my referral renewed with my insurance company so I could get back in a get a fill. I've back stepped a little and gained a little weight, that I am totally blaming on the holidays! This is my time of year that I always tend to gain weight, and even though this is my first year being banded, I still fell off the band wagon a little.

Well I got a 4cc fill on Fri, and this is my 3rd fill. I can feel a difference and I am actually full faster and can't eat as much, which is wonderful! The thing is that I seem to feel hungry more now in between meals. Has anyone else experienced this? I need to restock my cabinets with some healthy Snacks and I will next week on payday. I'm looking forward to getting back on track and serious after the new year starts. I am SO thankful I now have this tool to help!!!

  9. Ok, I have a nice little yeast infection (intertrigo) under this ugly fat roll on my stomach. I have never gotten a skin infection of any kind like this and the area is not huge, but it hurts. I am horrified at having to show my fat roll to the Dr and how I have a nice yeast infection in there,BUT I figured it may be good to have it documented for when I try to get a Tummy Tuck. I am sure I can cure it with a little clomitrozol. WWYD?

  10. I was in to one of my free support group seminars last week and was given a handout to read that promotes the idea of just maintaining over the holidays rather than losing. It says it's just too hard to go without everything so it is best to enjoy, but use your head and don't go overboard... Think maintenance!!!! I like that idea... I don't want to feel like I can't... I want to know I can, but just choose to be smart about it... Happy Holidays to everyone.. Good luck with maintaining!!! Julie

I like the idea of maintaining. I KNOW that all of the holiday commercials make it even harder  and then all of the weightloss commercials come out in Jan and it gets easier again! UGH!!! :)

  11. I know how you feel Zeama! I get discouraged at times too (a lot lately). And sometimes coming on here doesn't help!!!! It makes you feel worse! I know - because you get those "over the top" (for lack of better words) people who can just do it all so perfect (or they say they do) with no mistakes and that they have all their old habbits kicked. Well I don't!!! Everyone has a different story, and maybe you shouldn't focus on just the bad! you have done so good already, and Why not just focus on a weightloss for the summer months rather than so close to the holidays!!! I mean lets face it - its the time of year to eat and sleep! I have a weakness for the holidays too! And I am sure there are a lot of us who are going to have a tough time with the holidays - but I know we will get through it - and if we don't get through perfectly - well we can start over!

You have done great! Just remember that!

Thank you! I agree, this cold weather always makes me want to eat more, and I am not as active. I should be able to get my referral for my insurance renewed this week so I can go back in and get another fill. I am a LOT lighter than I was last year at this time, so I am just going to try and focus on my success and get back on track! ;)

  12. I've only had 2 fills so far. The first was 3 cc and the second one was 1.5 ccs. Well I feel no restriction at all, and I've been really bad about getting my referral updated so I can go back in to see Dr. Steely. Well my hunger and all of these darn holiday foods coming out has gotten the best of me and I have put back on 5 pounds. I've actually been avoiding the scales and avoiding coming here, because I am discouraged. I wanted to be below 200 by the new year. I know there is still time, but holiday food is my weakness.
