  1. Hello, I had my banding done on July 3rd. By July 7th, I developed an appetite and couldnt live on just liquids so I took a chance and ate a yogurt and clam chowder Soup. Everything went down great, I dont feel a restriction. On day 5, I ate a bowl of fruit loops with milk and survived. Later that day, I went to Target and accidentally swallowed my gum and was freaked out thinking I was going to puke while shopping but everything is fine. I don't seem to have problems eating, Im tempted to try a slice of pizza but am a bit scared. Should one be restricted immediately after the surgery or not until the first fill? Anyone else out there that has been able to eat without problems? Has anyone tried to eat and ended up with problems? I'd like to know what other people have experienced. Thanks D.

Wow, here I thought I was the only one with a husband who didnt understand. He also told me I chose the easy way out. Before I had my son, I was active, fit and happy. After giving birth, I was 95lb overweight and depressed. He has seen just how miserable I've been these past 7 years and he also knows how many times I've tried to lose weight. I have fibromyalgia so I ache too much to get on the treadmill plus the depression and extra weight don't help much. Nothing easy about the surgery. I'ts been a miserable 2 weeks. Maybe after I lose some weight and start feeling better about myself I'll get on the treadmill and use my exercise tapes and most importantly, take my kid to the park without feeling like everyone is starring at me. I think its easy to say that its an easy way out when you don't have the weight problem just as it would be easy to say the same about a depressed person. unless you have been there or experienced it, you cant possible know.
  3. Hello I had to get a psych clearance before they did my surgery. They also recommended that I continue seeing her after the surgery to make sure I don't lose it. It's normal

Drink lots and lots of water. the more hydrated you are, the more blood you'll pump at them. I actually went super hydrated one day and my blood squirted llike crazy. It leaked from the injection site also. Every nurse that walked in commented on how hydrated I was. Try to drink as much water as possible the night before. good luck!! __________________ Surgery Date: July 3rd, 2007 Age: 32

    Lower BMI Bandsters!

Hello everyone Im new to this group, I was @ 37 bmi (surprisingly, my insurance accepted right away). I've been reading some of your posts and they are very interesting. I was banded on July 3rd and started my puree stage. The chilli idea sounds yummy!! Today I was so hungry that I bought a salisbury steak frozen dinner and put the steak and gravy through my magic bullet and made instant mashed potatoes on the side and topped it off with the salisbury puree, wow, nice to have something other than liquid for a change. If anyone has any other tips I'd love to try them. I have a couple of questions for the experienced bandsters if you don't mind. How long before the gas discomfort goes away. Did any of you get pain on your right side under your rib cage and radiated to your back just under your shoulder blade? I had this happen to me twice while I was napping today. Felt like the port pain only on the right side. Another thing I've experienced that is no fun at all is the feeling of dull heat developing in the pit of my stomach following with the urge to throw up. My mouth salivates and drools until I throw up, only instead of throwing up, I burp *loud* then I feel better. Well, better play with my cat, he want attention!! lapband and upper back pain

Hi, I was banded July 3rd and today I've started experiencing the same thing. For me, it feels like my port feels only its on my right side under my rib cage and radiates to the back. Its sharp and so far only hurts when I make certain movements as I'm laying down. I do have gallstones and I'm wondering if this could be it?? I'd be very interested to know what your doc says. Good luck!!
  8. So what's the verdict? Hope everything is ok!!

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Hi Gia My my name is "D" I too was banded on the 3rd. The port area is still very sore. I have trouble pushing myself out of bed. Walking from sitting or sleeping is painfull but get better as I move around. Yesterday I hade 2 strange episodes. Early, I felt a warmth come through my body and a great urge to puke so I got to the toilet as fast as I could. My mouth was salivating sooooo bad and all of a sudden, a burp came out. Not a very pleasant experience but the burp made me feel better. Same think happened again later that day and again, a burp. So far today I've been fine but both my mom and my son have the runs so I'm wondering if there is a bug going around. If this is the case then my episodes yesterday probably dont have anything to do with the band. Good luck, I'd like to hear how you're doing. Who was your doctor??

    Eating 4 days post op

I appreciate all the advice given by all of you and I have gone back to liquids. I didn't know "why" i should stick to liquids, all I knew is that this was what was expected of me. I have researched more and now I understand and will try a lot harder to be better. I hope this post helps others as it did me and I'll keep everyone posted as to how everything goes. Thanks again to ALL OF YOU for your support!!

Hello The truth is that I wasnt afraid because I didnt know that there could be damage by doing it. I guess I thought that you shouldnt do it because you wouldn't be able to do it. But after reading more about it, the same night I posted the original post, I stopped and have taken nothing but liquids.

I just ate 1/2 slice of pizza, I wish I would have read your post before I did. Thanks for the info. I didn't realize that eating too soon could interfere with the healing process. I guess the best thing to do is to go back to liquids, I don't have much longer to go!!! Thanks for the advice, I think for once in my life I'll take it.

Indigo Girl I found that not only sugar free popsicles helped me with my pre op diet but so did the sugar free fudgsicles & creamsicles. I ate at least 5 of each every day until my surgery. My dietician also allowed me to have all the lettuce I wanted with my chk breast and a few sprays of the sprayable dressings. Good luck!! D.

I ate the whole can plus can of milk along with it. I'm not having any problems, I dont even feel restricted. I know that my first week should be all Clear liquids but its hard since my appetite is coming back. tomorrow I may have some cream of chicken Soup. my port is really the only thing giving me problems. I'll post tomorrow after my chk soup and let everyone know how it goes (BTW, I also had a cup of almond vanilla ice cream and no problems yet) D.
  19. I take effexor xr but I'm able to open the capsule and take the tiny coated balls inside. wellbutrin did nothing for me, effexor has been a life savor. I was ready to choose effexor over the band if I wasnt able to open it up. Good luck!

It seems that the more I walk around, the better I feel. My banding was on the 3rd and I took a chance and ate some campbells clam chowder soup, it was wonderful, and quite satisfying. Has anyone else eaten so soon after their banding ? If so, what kind of results did you have? Thanks D

    4th of July, Bed rest!!

I had my procedure July 3rd, 07 and sent home on the 4th of july, missed all the fireworks - no biggie!! The first 4 hours were miserable but finally got through it. My procedure was performed at Arizona Surgical Hospital in Tempe, AZ by Dr. Debarros who had the band installed on him about 5 weeks ago and is looking great! My port seems to bother me at times. It starts with a few throbs then expands into a hot sharp pain. Weird.
