So ladies I just came back from a cruise and my boy thought I lost my mind! I kayaked, parasailed, and went on a zip lining/ suspension bridge adventure (needless to say I am so sore right now!). He's wondering what's gotten into me (I ate alligator and tried escargot too). I will post pics.

No problem The driving will be fine just getting in and out of the car will be a little uncomfortable as well as if you hit any bumps in the road. I did all my running around myself and asked staff or mall security to carry my heavy bags to my car (I didn't even know they did that but the sales lady offered it up). I also stayed close to home because I would get tired quickly. Good luck with your surgery.

    African American Sleevers

Cherrytree, I had surgery on a Monday and was out shopping by myself that Saturday. However everyone's surgeon's techniques, medications and postop routines are different. In my case my surgery was around 12noon and they had me out of bed walking @ 4pm and I walked and had fluids that whole night. I never received or needed any narcotic pain medication (I had a non-narcotic med I was given to take around the clock for 3 days postop and after that I took children's liquid Tylenol when I had pain). I was released the next morning and had daily visits to the doctor for dressing changes on day 3 and 4 and had a JP drain that was removed day 4 as well. Hope that helps. Someone else's story may be very different Jaylowe, I am most definitely nervous about maintenance down the road. Everything changes so quickly after the sleeve it almost doesn't seem real to begin with. This is not something that will solve all of our problems. Someone (stupid) asked me about my weight loss and when I told him my method, he said "oh, you took the easy way out" (refer to previous posts regarding people's commentary). I can only be hopeful that down the line this will be a tool that will assist me with being more healthy and maintaining a decent weight so I'm not excessively heavy like I was again.

I 100% don't think anyone is bashing anyone- we're just "talking" about experiences. Across the board in life, people in general make dumb a@$ comments no matter the what the conversation may be about. We all know that. As far as here, we're hear to listen to each other and be of support where we can.

@ MisforMimi, I totally get what you're saying. I did notice however that when I told people I was going to Mexico for my sleeve I got the big eyes from all races although I had done my research and picked an amazing surgeon. I do believe black people are in general less open to/ understanding of surgery period- be it something necessary or something cosmetic. It's frowned upon and you tend to be written off as not accepting yourself the way you are. Many of us are not even organ donors or wouldn't even consider organ donation which makes absolutely no sense to me. My thought about the whole thing is "Whatever"- people can judge me for what I've done and they'll judge me when I get the other work I want done too I'm sure. If I had had any issues postop, then it would've been "see we told her not to do it", but then if I had died fat, they would've been in the pews at my service saying how fat I was (whether that was the cause of death or not) and how I should've done something about it. I worked with a girl who was heavy and lost a lot of weight naturally and began to lead a very healthy lifestyle. One day at work she was having trouble with her asthma and chose to go home instead of going to the emergency room (I work at a hospital). She unfortunately ended up passing away and do you know people were saying she lost too much weight and that may have had something to do with it?! And we're talking about people in the medical field! Sorry for the long post, but I think it boils down to people just being effin crazy honestly.

You're feelings are totally normal. We've all been there thinking what the hell have I gotten myself into? It's so hard not to worry and think the worst which honestly doesn't happen that often. Try hard to switch your thinking. Think about all the beautiful reasons why you're doing it- starting with being a better you for yourself and your family. Think about all of the things you want to do but can't do now that you will be able to do in a very short amount of time (things change very quick postop- the weight literally falls off). June 25th seems like a long time off, but it's right around the corner. You will be a new more amazing you than you've been in a long time and it will be more than worth it. Good luck to you on your journey

It was my 1st personal goal I set and I never thought I would get here that fast. My nut goal is 177lbs. I would be happy if I make it there by my surgiversary but I won't fret about it since I'm happy where I am in the time frame it's happened in. It's 43 more lbs and I'm assuming my weight loss will start to slow down soon too

Hey folks!! Wanted to let you know yesterday at 6mos post (on my bday no less), I met my first goal!! Wonderful!! Also I don't know how it came to mind, but I did the math on how much money the doctors make down there. I looked at their fees and did the math with them doing approximately 4 surgeries daily only 4 days a week for approximately 40 weeks a year (accounting for more vacation/travel than they probably actually do). Let's just say they make a LOT of money and deserve every penny for their amazing work. Uhhh... which ones are single again?

You're too early in the process to be too concerned about the scale. Even though you can't help but weigh yourself, you've got to remember not only did you have weight loss surgery, but you had surgery period! Your body is going through a period of the inflammatory process and healing. I'm not sure about the hunger aspect because I honestly have not experienced hunger since my surgery. I know I need to eat, but I haven't been hungry since October. What I will say is that you shouldn't be eating any regular food this early if doctor hasn't said it's ok. It seems a bit early. I don't remember having regular food for at least 3 weeks and most def no bread. Follow docs instructions because introducing regular food too early can cause problems and complications you don't want. You have fresh staples, sutures (depending on your surgeons preference) in your stomach girl!! And too just because something goes down well the first time doesn't mean it will the next time. There will be times later when your diet advances you will eat something you've eaten repeatedly and it just won't agree with you and it'll come back up or just plain won't "sit well" on your stomach. It's so hard to be patient in the beginning and you will still get on the scale and go WTF?, but the loss will come
