I am 3 months out and STILL having intolerance issues. I'm taking Prilosec 24 hr., Zofran for nausea, and I use Phenergan suppositories when I need them for vomiting. I have trouble with proteins. I still can't tolerate a protein shake. I can only eat/drink about a half a cup at a time, so I'm eating or drinking something about every 2 hours during the day. I'm trying to eat tuna, hamburger, cheeses, etc... But still can't get in the recommended amounts. My weight loss has been slow, but steady. Just trying to do the best I can, every day.

Covatila, I was never able to meet my water or protein goals in the beginning, mainly due to vomiting and intolerance issues. Over Christmas, I was hospitalized for dehydration. At that time, tests were performed to ensure I had no stricture or scar tissue that may be causing problems. The doc who viewed my X-rays told me that it appeared more like I had gotten a total gastric bypass rather than a sleeve my tummy was so small, he also said it was some of the best work he'd ever seen. So yes, your sleeve is as tight as a drum! Don't beat yourself up over not being able to get your water and protein in. I never was able to and I still don't! You're still going to lose, and you're going to do well. Just do the best you can. There's a process, and we are all different.

I am taking Zantac once a day. I am thinking I'm going to bump that up to twice a day for a while to see if that helps. It's been a struggle. I don't get the recommended protein, the recommended water, and some days very few calories. I am trying though. Thanks for all your suggestions. Good to know this phase will eventually pass!

I had my sleeve surgery Nov. 30, and I'm still unable to tolerate MOST foods, and some liquids. To this end my doc has been great about prescribing anti nausea meds, but lately has been reluctant to give me refills. I'm taking over the counter antacids, and it seems to help for a couple of hours, then wears off. Sad thing is, I'm hungry. My hunger hasn't gone anywhere. But when I eat, the nausea is crazy! Has anyone else experienced this??

Nov 2013 Sleevers Progress So Far...

Karliy, I was sleeved on 11/29 and I had the same problem. The minute the shake hit my stomach I would immediately become nauseated and vomit. Sometimes I would feel the shake coming up my throat and try to choke it back down because I so desperately needed the protein! Couldn't get my fluids in because of the nausea either and honestly, I still don't get more than maybe 16 oz a day. I've had to tweak my diet a bit to include more water-containing foods, which I know isn't recommended, but I have found mushed up cucumber, cantaloupe and honeydew melons seem to stay down fairly well. I've also added Greek yogurt and lots and lots of tuna fish, which allows me to get the protein in. I know I'm probably going to get a "shame on you!" from some of my friends here, but I simply had to make these changes on my own in order to stay out of the hospital. One thing I can say is that I think you need to up your calories a bit. I know it sounds counter-productive, but I wasn't losing ANY weight when I was getting 300-400 cals. a day. I think if you can try to bump those calories up to around 800-900, that scale is gonna fly! I eat 900 calories a day now, when I can, and I'm losing about a half a pound a day. Slow and steady wins the race, and you're going to win. I promise. Hang in there.
  6. Please help. I am having severe nausea sometimes with sometimes without vomiting. I am unable to tolerate anything. Water even makes me sick. Worried about malnourishment and dehydration. Fatigued and sleeping 18 hours per day. Not losing any weight. How long will this last? What can I do to get over this hump?
  7. Gelica, I'm almost 2 weeks post-op and I'm going through a similar situation. I'm constantly nauseated. Constantly. I'm unable to get fluids in because of the nausea, and I'm seriously dehydrated. I am not getting protein in either because I'm unable to tolerate my shakes. I actually dread the thought of putting anything into my stomach because I know the nausea will begin again. The only time my tummy is settled is when it's empty. I wonder sometimes if this is a normal rite of passage, or if this is going to be the "normal" for me. I surely hope not!

    Steri-Strips

When mine started itching, I pulled them off. Washed the area really well with soap and water and covered the area with a LOOSE bandaid. Instant relief! It may help you heal better to get a little air in there. Hope this helps!

    Driving Right After Surgery?

I was sleeved on 11/29/13 and I was driving the next day. Everyone recovers at their own pace. You know what's best for you. I'm only taking 2 weeks off work.

    Preop Diet Hunger Pains

My Dr. suggested a 2 week long liquid diet with occasional leafy greens. After 3 days I began fainting at work. I was hungry to the point of feeling unwell. And I was not losing weight. I began to eat a little more. Green vegetables, tomatoes, and broth-based soups. I've even had an ounce or two of lean cuts of beef. Guess what? By day 5 I began dropping the weight they wanted me to lose and I'm able to work my 12 hour shift without any lethargy. I know I'm not following my prescribed diet exactly as it was suggested, but I'm doing the best that I can.
  12. I am on day 3 of my pre-op diet. I've been struggling with fatigue, body aches, debilitating headaches and today while at work I fainted. Not sure what's going on. I've been doing 3 shakes per day, along with a little G2, fresh spinach and vinaigrette for dinner. What am I doing wrong?

I like the Unjury shake mix the best. It tastes better and seems to keep me fuller longer. I am also taking bariatric multi, calcium chew, and a B12. You can also order the vitamins from unjury.com

    Pre-Op Falling Out!

Yesterday was rough. I want to thank everyone for the reassurance. It's scary to think that I almost broke my nose with my fall, but somewhat reassuring to know this is all part of the process. I'm hoping for a better day today.

    Struggling and need help

The sweetness makes me nauseous too. I have 2 Tums before the shake and then I sip ice cold water after. Don't know why but it's helping me.
