Dr. Ariel Ortiz at the OCC
IndigoChild replied to Kindle's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Oh gosh me too!! My eating this past week was out of control. Way too much sugar. I don't know why I'm doing this. Sugar makes me feel bad... Tired, sluggish, nauseated. And I don't even really like sweets!! I'm blaming hormones. Lol -
Surgery scheduled with Dr. Ortiz Nov. 29. Anyone else having Thanksgiving surgery?

How much time off work will I need to take post-op? I'm a NICU nurse and spend 12 hours a day on my feet. No heavy lifting or anything strenuous tho. Had one lady tell me she was sleeved on Friday and went back to work on Monday... Dang!

Post -Op time off work?
IndigoChild replied to IndigoChild's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm taking your advice, keglenne. My PCP advises at least 4 weeks for proper healing, and I'm not quite as young and resilient as some of these ladies here, so I'm thinking having a little extra time might not be a bad idea! Thank you so much. -

Hey Barb, I ordered the chocolate Enspira shake just to get me started (I'm having one shake a day until I start my two week program hoping to jump start my weight loss...). The Enspira shake is ok... Just ok. It doesn't taste really that bad, but it's really hard to mix, clumpy. I bought one of those shake mixing bottles from Wal-Mart and it helps break up those clumps. One thing I did notice about the Enspira shake (I'm a label reader) is that the shake mix contains a form of colostrum... And just the idea... I don't know, kind of grossed me out! (I'm a NICU nurse...) Lol... -

I know how you feel. You may think I'm crazy, but I chose to go the self-pay route and in November, I'm heading to MX to have my sleeve surgery. My insurance requirements prior to them approving or disapproving me were just ridiculous. Pay $1,000 out of pocket for a consultation, $500 for a psych eval, $300 for nutritional assessment, document your "medically supervised" weight reduction efforts for the past 12 months, send in proof that your program was medically supervised, letters of recommendation from 3 physicians... The out of pocket expenses were adding up and the requirements seemed extreme to me. And I was warned that after all of that, I still may be denied and an appeal may have to be filed. Seriously?? So I'm forgetting the insurance and heading for the border. It's worth considering. No matter what though, keep your head up. Don't let this nonsense get you down.

no two week liquid pre op diet
IndigoChild replied to lillingtonnc's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
I just got my pre-op diet instructions, and y'all, I'm not kidding. I'm worried. My current weight is 235 pounds. The requirement is 15 days of liquids only, with the last 48 hours prior to surgery being Clear Liquids. The expectation is that I should lose about 15 pounds prior to surgery. What if I don't lose this weight?? I have tried and tried to lose weight on my own and it just does not happen. I have had 4 children, and developed hypothyroidism after my twins were born. Since then it's been tough. I have damaged my metabolism with yo-yo dieting and calorie restriction. I once restricted calories to 800 calories a day and followed this plan for 2 or 3 months. Never lost a pound. I'm afraid I won't be able to lose the weight. I mean, if I could lose weight on my own, I wouldn't be here... -
