  1. Hello everyone, I am looking for as much guidance as possible. I am very excited for this VSG surgery (September 9). I am feeling a little uneasy for many reasons. One, I am doing this alone. I am getting it done in Mexico, where my mother had hers done. I have only heard exceptional things about all aspects of the journey there. The staff, doctors, drivers, the stay itself etc. I am 23 years old and am still kind of a baby when it comes to going out into the unknown, so far from home (Oregon). I have a million questions, even after doing a bunch of research. I suppose I will list some and see where this goes. 1. I am a smoker, and as much as I would like to not be, it is hard to quit. My surgery is coming up soon and I am quitting cold turkey. Any ideas to keep away from that post-op? I also do think once the surgery is done, my outlook on cigarettes will change dramatically because I feel this is a total reboot, but who knows. 2. How soon after surgery can I start working out? I have been planning on some cardio and strength training... I do not want to go too hard, too soon, but have heard even after two weeks of surgery one can go back to a normal workout routine. (I am signed up for a walking class in the fall, because I didn't want to go too hard post op) 3. Loose skin: should this be a worry of mine? 200-205 lbs currently, 23 years old. How can I really minimize that? 4.Best Protein shake suppliments? What to mix with to lessen the nasty taste? 5. I am a big baby and get overly nervous for a surgery. Although I know every individual is different, what can I expect post-op the day of my surgery, and day after. Pain scales, nausea? I am sure I will be posting more questions on this, thank you for your time guys, it means so much! Mariah

    Pre-op diet ---crash diet?

Hi guys, I am a little ignorant when it comes to this pre-op dieting. I understand that it is to help you lose a little pre surgery, and also to show your true dedication. Is there anything I missed? And what if you don't do it? Or do it for shorter than planned? I am sure this is posted elsewhere, and if so, please redirect and link me! Thank you
  3. Yay congratulations! Good luck! Is it in the US?

  6. You look absolutely beautiful! Your results are amazing! Congratulations girl! GET IT!
  7. Beautiful! I am so excited!
  8. Hey there! Thank you so much for your response, you've Enlightened me! I actually just deleted my Facebook, unfortunately. I wish I could join! Do you know of any other resources? I remember when my mother got it done, she would have like 3-5 bites and sometimes feel full stuffed! which brings me to another concern.. later on, say a couple months+ when I am good to exercise regularly, I wanted to start training pretty hard, not necessarily body building ripped but definitely tone up and grab some muscle all over my body. so my concern: how will I be able to get a sufficient amount of liquids, Protein, etc in my body post work out? Is it a lot easier than I am thinking it is? My mom said you just sip all day on your shake or whatever. What do you (or anyone else reading this) think? I have a strong feeling the surgery is short and sweet and not very painful. To be honest, I am just a big baby worry wort! I am quite nervous about the initial entering the operation room and then the drain. I have bad dreams about waking up during surgery (even a long time ago). I am sure I will be fine though. I have heard such exceptional things about my doctor and his team!
  9. Hi there! My operation is September 9 in Mexico! Anyone else in Mexico?! Good luck to all of you! Add me if you'd like. -Mariah

    Pre-op diet ---crash diet?

The logic behind it was this: I did not understand the "why" aspect, other than losing the weight/showing dedication. That also didn't mean that I was just not going to do it. I just wanted to understand. Update: I am not still smoking. I have quit that and have been working out, getting enough sleep and eating what I am allowed to have on my pre-op diet. My doctor has given me plenty of direction. Thanks for your concern. -Mariah
  11. Rock and roll man! I live in Oregon! I have only lost a couple pounds. I am only supposed to be on a seven day pre-op diet so I started yesterday! Soon more weight will shed away! When my mom was there she said she met some individuals getting the surgery done and some walked in groups! I am sure I will see you there! -Mariah

    Pre-op diet ---crash diet?

At the time, I clearly stated I was ignorant when it came to pre-op surgery weight loss, hence why I asked the questions.

  14. Just kidding, just noticed the "we."
  15. As am I! I look forward to meeting you! Are you going alone?
  16. Thank you so much for your repsonse! Smoking: I am struggling with it. I know this is serious and it needs to stop. Is it better to order the ecig online? I tried a couple different things, Blu or whatever, it was HORRIBLE. I don't believe that is the same as what you're talking about though. Could you link me to something with safe ecigs? Did you feel differnt post surgery about smoking?
  17. Is this bad? I mean, obviously it could be better. I am pre op and have only been told to fill out the medical/consent forms and start a pre op diet a certain amount of time prior. So is this bad? Should I get some blood work done?
  18. September 9! I am quite nervous. I am heading to Mexico!
  19. I am going to Dr. F Garcia in Mexico! I have only heard exceptional things about him and his staff! My mother had VSG surgery done by Garcia and she has only said the best things about him also! My surgery is September 9, so I'll keep you updated!
  20. PS ---- Garcia is my doctor!
  21. Hahaha thanks, I am such a newb!
  22. Thank you so much for your response! My doctor is Garcia! Yours?
  23. I am feeling quite nervous.

  24. Stay strong! I am quite nervous also, one, because I am going alone and two, because I am voluntarily altering my body. But when I sit down and think about the heartache and insecurities I have about my body, and how much it has held me back from doing everything I have always wanted to do, I look at it like a piece of cake and totally life-changing! I don't want to buy bigger and bigger clothes, I don't want to look pregnant in a dress, I don't want to constantly cry about the way I look, I don't want to hate myself, I don't want to be sick and lazy. I don't want to acquire diabetes and get even more sick. I want to be able to move, get active etc. I know it is scary, my surgery is right after yours. Sept 9th. Just as Birdmadgirl said, we can all do this. If you need someone to talk to, shoot me a message! Mariah
