  1. It's absolutely possible to lose beyond your first year. Your body might just be getting "used to" what your doing. Or you may have let some old habits slip back in. May need to "mix up" your food and work out routine. Or get back to basics of Water, Protein, exercise, very low carb. Your body doesn't have a concept of months, so there is nothing magical that happens at 1 year. In theory, it just because harder to lose as the numbers get smaller and as your body becomes accustomed to the new "normal."

    My transformation Tuesday

That's awesome! Congrats on your success so far!
  4. That is awesome! Congrats on your success! I was sleeved in Sept. 2013, so a bit before you, but close. I've reached and maintained my goal since about 10 months post op. I agree with you, it has been the best 2 years of my life. Not only because of the weight loss, but because of the emotional work I've done on myself to get at the underlying issues which lead me to "eat myself" to 280 pounds. Here was my before/after pic from a bit before 2 years post op. There are plenty more in my profile and on my blog (linked in signature)

    Take a cleanse

From my experience, around 8-9 months post op was the exact time for me that the "honeymoon" phase kind of wore off. I was getting sick of eating the same foods (I stuck to the plan religiously), I have extremely rapid weight loss from sticking to the plan so closely and I was nearing goal so the novelty of that was wearing off, and my disordered eating voice was starting back up in my head. So, I completely understand. This is also the time I started going to weekly therapy to deal with the issues underlying my eating issues because it scared the crap out of me that I was starting to slip. I can happily say that since then I've lost a bit more weight and maintained for the last year and a half since then. You will be fine. Just make sure you get it in check now and do whatever you have to do to get back in the mindset you need to be in . I think that doing something similar to the 5-day pouch test can do wonders for breaking any sugar/carb habits you've re-developed, or just reinforce the importance of getting back to the basics (Water, Protein, etc). It also helps to return any level of restriction you might feel lke you're "losing" and to break the sugar/carb craving cycle. Good luck!!
  6. It's all relative I suppose. My first goal was 150 and I hit that way more quickly than I expected. So then I pushed my goal to 140. Again, hit that easily, so I decided to make my goal 125. Getting there has been more of a struggle. I've been trying for the past year to stay below 130, so I guess the answer to your question would be that it's taken me about a year, but with that being said, I already passed my first two goals, so I don't know if that really "counts" for what you're asking :-)
  7. I had a tummy tuck & panni in April of 2015. It's been 7 months. I've been using ScarAway silicone scar sheets religiously since then. I was putting new sheets in today & noticed the box said for best results use 8-12 weeks. I've been using them for more like 28 weeks...lol. How long did you use them? At a certain point do they quit making a difference? Thanks!

    Seeing a psychologist

Yes!!! I've struggled with disordered eating (from restricting to binging and back again) all of my teen adult life. For me to think that a surgery that literally "only" limits the amount of food that can be held in my stomach would "cure" or fix my disordered eating would be ridiculous. I have been seeing a therapist that specializes in eating disorders for almost 2 years now every single week. I was a rock star the first several months. The rapid weight loss was exciting and I had no problem sticking to the plan. However, somewhere around 9 months post op or so I noticed that my old obsessive thoughts about food were returning. It scared the crap out of me and it was at that point that I sought out therapy. I know that going back to how I was was not an option for me and so I knew that I had to deal with what lies beneath the eating habits if I wanted this to be a life-long change. I know for a fact I would not have been this successful long term without the help of my therapist. I also read Geneen Roth's "When Food is Love" and "Women, Food, and God" which were literally life-changing for me. I go back and re-read them with journal in hand every now and then because there is just so much good stuff in there to digest. So....yes, I have gone to a therapist for my eating issues and yes, I have found it invaluable in my journey!

    Same old issues

I think the only disappointing thing to me about my journey has been that surgery didn't take away the inner struggle I've always had with food. It limits the amount of food we can eat. That is it. It is not magical, sadly. But, since it is a great tool, there are things we can do to maximize it's effectiveness like eating more Protein and fewer carbs (as others have said, Proteins make you feel fuller, carbs make you crave more carbs), drinking Water when you think you are hungry because you may actually be thirsty, cutting out between-meal snacking, etc. But for me, I also had to do some "me" work to figure out why I was always running to food....I've been working with a therapist since about 10 months post op to deal with disordered eating. It has been so incredibly valuable to me and without it I probably wouldn't have been as successful. Good luck to you!

    PCP Visit To Discuss WLS

Head Hunger - Binge Eating Disorder

I never realized I had this issue until about 7 months post op when I sought out therapy because my old "urges" for coping with life through food started to pop back up. For me, my disordered eating kind of went the other direction after surgery & I now battle every day not with binge eating like in the past but with anorexia. I'm winning the battle though :-) I've been in therapy since 7 months post op. I'm now 26 months post op. I go every single week. I've also made a lot of progress reading & journaling through Geneen Roths books. I highly recommend them. I think it shows great promise that you are already thinking about these things, good luck to you!

I don't have a recipe, but I order protein hot chocolate from bariatric choice.com all the time. It's tasty & high in protein :-)

    Sex after surgery

If you're not in pain you're probably fine. I didn't have that happen after the sleeve, but things like that would happen now & then after my tummy tuck. As I continued to heal everything got back to normal
  16. I have daily nutrition goals. I try to stick to them as religiously as I can. That is what helped me lose 145 pounds & keep them off! I aim for 70g protein, 30 or fewer g carbs, 30 or fewer g sugar & at least 100 oz of water.

    Wondering what I did!

The first few weeks are honestly just about surviving & getting enough fluids in. I think most people have a touch of buyers remorse in that first week. I remember how difficult it was emotionally to be going through sugar, carb & caffeine withdrawal all at once, plus losing my tried & true coping mechanism of eating my feelings away. It is s rough time! I promise though, it gets way better. Every day you will heal a little more. The scale will start really loving & you will see the payout of your hard work

    Thanksgiving Tips

I plan on approaching food the way I do every day on Thanksgiving. Protein first, then veggies. Pass on the bread, stuffing, pies, etc.

    Still feeling no restriction

That seems very strange to me. I'm over 2 years post op & there's no way I could eat that much without feeling terribly ill. If that is really the case I would definitely go to another surgeon to get a second opinion because that just doesn't seem right at all

    Regretting it already..(day 1)

I think just about everyone has a moment of regret or buyer's remorse in the first few days/weeks after surgery. I remember calling my friend who was sleeved a year before me from the hospital saying "I can't believe you talked me into this! Why didn't you tell me it would be like this." She assured me it would get way better very quickly, and she was right. The first days/weeks you are going through sugar withdraw, carb withdraw, caffeine withdraw, plus you just had a relatively major surgery which demands that you completely change the way you've eaten probably all of your life. There's a lot of both physical and emotional change all at once. I promise it will get better and you will look back on it and say that you would do it all over again! ((hugs)) Hi, Caressa! Thanks for the link to your blog...I started reading it and enjoying your insights and experiences...I was curious...did you have any cosmetic surgery for loose skin or do you have any tips on how you managed? Your pictures look amazing!!! Yes I had a tummy tuck/panni at 18 months post op. There is lots of info on the procedure, my recovery & before & after pics on my blog. Specifically May & June of 2015

    Losing a best friend

I've had the same exact thing happen. My best friend since kindergarten & I both had sleeve surgery. My weight loss has been significant & I've maintained it for over 1.5 years. Unfortunately she was not ready to change her behavior and/or deal with the underlying cause of her overeating, so she has gained all of weight back plus some. She's been pulling away from me more & more and it finally occurred to me that it is likely because of my "success" with the weight loss. I don't know if she's jealous or if it makes her feel badly or what but it totally sucks. I just kind of came to the resolution that she will always be my friend, but I really have to focus on surrounding myself with people who support me on this journey. I'm sorry you are going through the same thing, I know it sucks.
  24. So, I posted a couple of weeks about about finally feeling confident enough to get some boudoir photos taken as a surprise for my hubby to thank him for his amazing support through this entire journey that I've been on. He's been amazing. Anyway, never in a MILLION years would I have imagined that I would have enough confidence, courage, whatever you want to call it to (a) get these pictures taken in the first place, and ( share them with complete strangers. But, I figured if someone reads this and sees them and it encourages them to make a change for the better in their health, then why not!!! And you know what?? I'm freaking proud of my hard work!! lol...... SO, I'm not going to post them here.....But......they are on my blog (linked in my signature) if you feel so inclined..... :-)
