  1. The sleeve is one of the safest surgeries out there. The largest risk is of a leak - but that doesn't happen very often' date=' and when it does it is caught quickly and taken care of. There is little risk of death or dying from the surgery. Your last post was in August - how has it gone since then? Did you have surgery? Where are you at now?[/quote']

Insurance approval-done. Dr approval- done. Waiting on the dr I saw to day. Putting fire under her bottom cause if I go into January gotta pay a new deductible. 2013 deductible paid. So as soon as that clearance happens I'm going in for the surgery that's gonna change and save my life. I needed that wake up call from the dr. Put everything in perspective for me. Plus this forums has helped so much. December2013 I will be sleeved!!!!

  2. 55 and happy..total loss right now is 160lbs. at 11 months out..Lots of sags and everythinjg going south..but nothing that a good plastics can't fix... All the things I can do now has made my life worth living...before surgery I was just existing :( Now I am on the move' date=' living and doing and having a good time just getting back to my old me... That said....people tell me I have changed a lot..I feel different about so many things..I am not recognized by anyone I know....It is so cool!..I am glad I joined the human race again and will never look at what I went through as a terrible experience......But that it saved my life and gave me a life! :)[/quote']

Wow!!! That's terrific. Congratulations. I get sleeved in December.

  3. Am getting sleeved in December. I have my final dr visit clearance tomorrow and setting it up for December. Excited and nervous at the same time. I know I will get clearance from this dr for he has been pushing for me to do it for 3 years. I'll be glad when it gets started. Christmas will be a little different this year. But I am on my way to a more healthier me. That's all the Christmas present I need.

  4. Hello my PCP was very negative about the surgery as well and he didn't no much about the process so I got a new PCP and she has been great about my decision. I'm approved and I did get cold feet myself but not changing my mine!!!! you should talk to the surgeon and his/her nurse because they do this surgery every week. Good luck

Thank you. I got my approval letter from my insurance last night. Gonna wait a couple of months tho if the surgeon will let me. I have 3 more visits with my pcp and I need to go to those.

Again thank you for your input. Means a lot to me. Good luck on your continued success. :)

  5. Thank you

Your two cents is worth 1,000,000 to me. I agree he gave me a reality check. He has me journaling every thing that goes in my mouth. Of course I am using fitness pal. You don't realize all those empty calories that are in food. There is sugar in milk. Didn't know that.

Coincidently I got my approval letter for my surgery last night. Gonna keep seeing my pcp for a couple more months if the surgeon office will let me. I have learned so much about this but when my pcp said that it scared me and made me question "do I really know this". Ya all are amazing. And with this forum I know I'm in good hands taking the journey with everybody. Thank you for your input. Good luck on your on going success.

  6. Great answers. You want to be comfortable with this before surgery' date=' so keep researching until you are. Let me emphasize two points... (1) it is not magical... YOU still have to follow your plan and (2) Deaths from obesity are more likely (by far) than deaths from this procedure.[/quote']

    Thank you

  7. First of all...I probably know more people who I am worried they will die from NOT doing it. While he was probably trying to give you a reality check' date=' it seems a bit callous and irresponsible to focus on bad outcomes without providing other details that probably had a much higher level of impact on the bad outcomes than the surgery did. I can tell you...if you do what your surgeon tells you to do, and if you don't think this is a magic "cure" for being overweight - instead viewing it as a tool in your tool box of being healthy, then you should feel more confident with your decision. Despite success rates with this surgery, there are still a lot of pcps who are "old school" and who don't accept that fact that there are some people who this is truly a last resort for....that not doing it will be far more detrimental than the risks of having the surgery. There are risks with any type of surgery...even death. But the fact of the matter is that having all the weight related comorbidities is a far greater risk. That's my two cents.[/quote']

    Thank you

  8. Have been going thru the insurance requirements and surgeon requirements. I am second guessing this surgery. I am 5' at 243# and have been looking forward to the surgery until my #3 of 6 pcp diet appointment. He told me he has seen many patience going thru what I am now. Have seen them back and regularly for two years. He said the majority of them come back looking like I do now. But 4 have died because of it. I'm now scared of my decision on this surgery and think I need to add another 3 months to my due date which is in feb/2014. I want to know what others think. I do know now I am not ready for this now but was sure I was before that appointment. Any input would be appreciated. Congratulations to all of your successes. Thank you Debra - confused

That 5' 343#. Sorry for the typo.

  10. welcome to the fifties! I turned 54 in August and was sleeved LAST November. It was a great decision for me and no regrets. I think the Aug./Nov. Combo must be a lucky one! Here's my before and after pictures just to give you a taste of what's ahead of you. Keep us posted on your progress. You don't know how close we are at starting weight. I am only 5ft tall well dr measured me at 4 11 1/2. But I can't wait to look as good as you.

Congratulations. And good luck in your venture.
