    August 2013 Roll Call

I had surgery on 8/26 and have lost 27 since surgery...so not as fast as some but I think it's OK. I also feel like I can eat a lot more than some people describe. Usually I start out my day with a smoothie that has 27 g of protein. After that it varies but I usually will eat three meals after that and one is usually another smoothie or muscle milk. Otherwise I am able to eat two eggs, 2-3 oz of meat with a vegetable, salad plate full of salad with 2 oz of deli meat turkey... I hope that helps. I have found that I tend to lose more the more water I drink as well.

    Daily multivitamins

I was having the same problem but I just started throwing them in the blender with my protein smoothie in the am. I can't taste them and they don't make me nauseous that way.

    Hair today gone tomorrow?

What kind of shampoo did he recommend? I already lose a lot because of the PCOS so not looking forward to losing more!

    August Sleevers?

I feel it too. It's not the same feeling that I had before surgery, but my stomach literally hurts if I haven't eaten in more than 3 hours. I could still probably go longer, whereas before surgery anyone in my way would have had to watch out (until I ate something, of course)! It's a strange feeling. I am dealing with a lot of "head" hunger, especially at family get-togethers where all the favorites are. I think it may be time to book an appointment with a psychologist!

    Is it normal?

I had an easier time with warm liquids at first as well. I was on Clear Liquids for a week post op and it was difficult to get much down at first. Every day got better and by 7 days I was ready for full liquids and could drink cold Water, though still slowly. 3 weeks out now and it's much easier to drink more at one time. It gets better! I wouldn't worry about the scale you could be retaining water or who knows what each of our bodies initial reactions mean!

    Questions for women only

That is too funny! My doctor told me to wait four weeks!! Let's just say I am counting down...one more week to go!

    August 2013 Roll Call

I was sleeved 8/26 and the last of my strips feel off today. I don't feel like I have to nap (since week 1) but I wouldn't say I have all my energy back either. I have been walking 2 miles a day per drs orders but I couldn't do more than that yet because I do feel so tired. I do go to bed a lot earlier than I used to so that probably makes up for the lack of naps!

    Sleeve surgery and PCOS

I've been wondering about this as well. I had my surgery on 8/26 so I will be three weeks out tomorrow. I lost 6lbs the week before surgery which I have never been able to do with my PCoS. Then I lost 13 my first week and then only 2 the second. I don't think the scale has moved much this week but I don't weigh in until tomorrow. Whether its true or not, I feel like this is slow! I wonder how this bodes for the future weight loss. Part of the problem was I set monthly weight goals I hoped to achieve and I shouldn't have done. I am going on a cruise in 3 months and wanted to lose 50lbs! I wonder about others experiences as well.
  11. I am a side sleeper and my back is killing me from being in the recliner and in bed. I need to start moving more, I know! Just curious, though, when it was comfortable for others to sleep on their sides?
  12. Thanks all of you. I will keep trying. Thanks for the suggestions of a pillow between the bed and tummy, maybe that will help me sooner rather than later!

    August 2013 Roll Call

I am 4 days post op and having a very hard time getting my liquids in. I have to take small sips and space them out or I get dry heaves. Anyone else having similar issues? I don't want to end up getting dehydrated!
  14. I got a letter in the mail saying that fepblue no longer requires prior approval for vsg in patient procedures (after the office submitted for approval!). This is not what I have heard from others! When I went back and read the handbook it doesn't exactly say you need preauthorization, only that you need to meet the BMI, Psych Eval, three month nutritional requirements to be covered. It does, however, say that for any inpatient procedure you need precertification. Isn't this just notifying them of the procedure before you go in? Has anyone else had this experience? I don't know whether to rejoice or cry (if there is something else that needs to be done)! Calling the surgeon's office first thing tomorrow!!!

    August 2013 Roll Call

Monday, August 26th for me! Right now I am craving something chewy...like a steak! I am heading out of town for a funeral and wondering how I am going to manage liquids while traveling...

    Federal BCBS...no approval required letter?!

Well, its true. I do not need preauthorization. Of course, they won't cover me if I haven't meet the requirements listed in the plan brochure. The hospital does the precertification the morning of surgery, so I am all set! My surgeon had an opening next Monday for some reason so I am on for 8/26!!

    Federal BCBS...no approval required letter?!

I will let you know. I have looked elsewhere online and some others are saying they aren't preapproving them either, but have not had problems getting covered post-surgery. Still others talk about approval letters. I wonder if some states will pre approve and others won't? I just can't figure it out.

    Federal BCBS...no approval required letter?!

Agree! The last thing I need is to be stuck with a huge bill! I am going to have a busy morning on the phone tomorrow morning! Thanks for responding.
  19. I began thinking about surgery (again) in April this past year. I have PCOS and have struggled with my weight since my late teens. I spent many years on and off on WW (lose, get pregnant, have baby, gain, go back to WW (repeat 3x!)). I went to the "informational" meeting the beginning of June and have submitted everything to my insurance (Federal BCBS). Waiting to hear from the insurance has been more difficult than I imagined! I am so ready for this. I am sick of feeling like food rules my life and feeling like a bystander in my own life. I know this isn't going to be easy, but I am ready!

Question for those that have BCBS federal

I am going to a Bariatric Center and they take care of everything. I first met with the nutritionist and surgeon the beginning of June. I had an appointment scheduled for an annual physical with my pcp in July, so the nutritionist told me to make sure she documents discussion of weight/diet so that it would count for one month. So maybe if your doctor documented a discussion of the surgery and your weight then it might work. I have my third nutritional appointment scheduled for next week. However, they already submitted to insurance because when the insurance person at the center called to verify the requirements they basically told her all I needed was they psych eval and primary care letter. This is not what it says in the handbook, so we shall see. I did have years and years of WW records though. I haven't heard anything back yet and they submitted at the end of July. If they deny I will proceed with next weeks nutritional appointment and they will submit again. Before they called insurance, they said they would submit immediately after the third appointment. I would say, it doesn't hurt to try and submit with the June appointment.
