Hi, I took four weeks off of work....could have probably gone back after two. I found that I had good energy in the morning, but got really tired in the afternoon. I told everybody that I was having surgery and got a lot of concern looks. Well almost 10 months out I have lost 92lbs and the only kind of looks I get now are appreciative ones! People will actually ask did you eat. you need to eat more, etc........and never did I ever think anyone would say that to me. So buckle up and enjoy the ride, you cant believe how much your life is about to change. Good Luck

So day 2... Wow feel like I got hit by a truck. Discharged home. My throat is killing me from the tube they put down it for the anesthesia. My Dr. told me I had a hernia and that it was very common... Just my luck!!! I know this will be worth it. But I can't wait til I feel better.

I found out the past few days why I haven't told to many people. I actually had someone whom I thought was a big help for me in the past tell me, I was taking the easy way out. I about wanted to burst into tears. I held them back & said, you obviously have no idea what this is... Now my decision is solid. No one else will no. I don't need that in my life, it's part of why I am the way I am, I don't need approval from anyone, this is my life & I'm taking it back for me.

Monday and I'm scared as all get out

My epiphany came as a result of several incidents. I was on a physician supervised weight loss program and lost 55-lbs. I never did break the 170 barrier; my BMI was STILL above 30. Slowly I began gaining. I developed type 2 diabetes & my cholesterol and triglycerides started going up. I have severe sleep apnea which did not get any better even with the substantial weight loss. And THEN I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. Ugh. First it was in my hands and feet--I have ruined feet due to life-long flat foot, plus post-tibial tendinitis. And in the middle of it all, my youngest child who is severely mentally handicapped, moved into a group home. Eat eat eat... The arthritis got much worse--suddenly my knees were giving out and the pain with walking was excruciating. Cortisone shots failed, Supartz injections failed. Suddenly, my legs started swelling and I needed BP medicine. In the midst of it all, my 79yo mother had 2 TIAs! And THAT'S when it got my attention. I decided that I could not go on this way. I recognized that at my age (56) , with my comorbities, the chances of me losing 80-lbs and keeping it off was about zero. I decided that WLS was my only hope. I turned in my paperwork yesterday and the office called me today. I was approved in less than 24 hours! Cigna didn't even bat an eye. I can't wait to get this show on the road!

My date is Sep 26th...just got the date and I'm so relieved that all the insurance prep work is done. September will be here soon. Can't wait! I live in Colorado.

I was when I fit into my first size 12s.

My biggest NSV ever was when I was talking with my trainer awhile back about
putting a profile up on a dating site. I asked him which box to check, average
or "a few exra lbs." I wanted a man's opinion. He said You're definitely average.

That same day, a man at the gym asked
me how I keep my legs so toned. I was
literally shocked. I just pointed to the machines I use.

Thanks Tiff! I guess my best NSV so far is when my son was gone for ten days and he came home, saw me and said, "wow! you look skinny!" That felt great!

Non scale Victory

My favorite one to date has got to be fitting in the booth at our favorite Mexican restaurant without having to move the table closer to my son. Plus, having lots of room between my belly and the table.
The others:
Seeing all the bones in my feet and ankles
Having just 1 chin
My son wrapping his arms around me and getting excited that he can clasp his hands for a "real hug".
All of my rings and bracelets being too big
Buying regular sized clothes from Old Navy
Having my dermatologist not even recognize me until she read my chart, that was an amazing feeling.

Loving this thread! My favorite thus far is the one I posted about last week. I can no longer buy my clothes from the woman's department at Kohl's. I now can shop in the regular sizes.

I just joined the vertical sleeve talk last night. My surgery date is scheduled for Sept 26. I can't wait either and I'm excited and nervous as well.
