No, but I just messaged her to let her know people are wondering how she's doing. I'd be curious to know, too.
Anna you sound more positive than you have in the past - that's great to hear. Sounds like this is going to be the answer you need. Keep us posted!!
has anyone heard from freespirit63?

Background:
Debra Steimen originally contacted Mexico Bariatric Center (MBC) on 3/1/13. She scheduled to have the Lap-Band removed and if possible, get sleeved on 4/9/13 for total cost of 6,300 USD with Dr. Ramos Kelly.
She successfully had surgery performed on April 9, 2013.
It is noteworthy to mention that there could be inflammation or other medical issues relating to the prior bariatric surgery that can prevent the gastric sleeve procedure from safely being performed.
Debra contacted Mexico Bariatric Center with displeasure on 11/15/13 after she was in contact with Dr. Ramos Kelly and got upset with him. She complained about gaining weight and claimed that Dr. Ramos Kelly removed the Lap-Band but did not perform the gastric sleeve procedure.
Mexico Bariatric Center then contacted Dr. Ramos Kelly on behalf of the patient. Dr. Kelly informed MBC that he did remove the Lap-Band and performed the gastric sleeve procedure on Debra. Dr. Ramos Kelly also told MBC that he offered to redo the surgery for no fee for himself, but the hospital and all other expenses would still need to be paid. However, Mrs. opted not to go with Dr. Ramos Kelly - and declined his offer.
Evidence:
Documentation from Hospital MI Doctor in Tijuana shows successful completion of Lap-Band removal and gastric sleeve surgery on the April 9th 2013.
Michael Velchik, MD, also on December 17th 2013 at the Fairfax Radiological Consultants, P.C. reports, “there is redemonstration of postoperative changes in the stomach consistent with gastric sleeve procedure.”
In clearing up the issue, we talked with Dr. Ramos Kelly, who says he performed a “loose sleeve,” on the patient. A loose sleeve is a less restricting gastric sleeve procedure, which is done on patients with less severe BMIs.
Our Response:
Mexico Bariatric Center offered Debra Steimen the following:
- If there was no sleeve procedure, MBC surgeon will perform gastric sleeve and the only charge she will be responsible is the revision part ($1400).
- If the gastric sleeve was performed, she then would revise to gastric bypass surgery at MBC surgeon's discretion.
Our Stance:
Debra Stienmen declined our offer, then proceeded to suggest we owe her financial compensation of $8,875 or she would go to the boards and attack MBC.
.
Mexico Bariatric Center fully paid for Debra Stienmen original surgery to Dr. Ramos Kelly. MBC has fulfilled its contractual obligations with Mrs. Steimen and deems it unnecessary to provide compensation at this time.
We feel that we have gone above and beyond in this case. We have done substantial research on this case to see what the appropriate action is to be taken. MBC strives itself on patient support and care!
---
1) Was there a price difference discussed between if the sleeve could be performed v. if it could not be performed? If so, what was it?
2) It is noteworthy to mention that there could be inflammation or other medical issues relating to the prior bariatric surgery that can prevent the gastric sleeve procedure from safely being performed.
This comment is very interesting. Are you alluding that perhaps this was the case for Debra?
3) redo the surgery for no fee for himself
Why would he offer this as an option if the sleeve surgery had already been performed?
4)
- If there was no sleeve procedure, MBC surgeon will perform gastric sleeve and the only charge she will be responsible is the revision part ($1400).
Why in the world would she be responsible for any charges, if the sleeve had not been done, even though a doctor has told her it had been & there are chart notes supporting that it had been completed?

Awesome job! Your fitness routine inspires me. It's obviously working wonders!

I try to do 15 min either side but sometimes life just doesn't work out that way. That, or I get really thirsty and take a little sip after a meal.

I'm sorry that you work at such an unprofessional company. Seriously. Been there and it sucks.

Discomfort for a few hours. Really very manageable.
I remember right after surgery, I had this conversation with the nurse:
Me: 'I'm in pain.'
Nurse: 'What would you rate it on a 1-10 scale?'
Me: '4'
Nurse: 'You just had surgery. You're going to have some discomfort.'
Me: 'Oh.'
It was like 1/100th of childbirth.

It's your day!!! It'll be over before you know it.

LOL you're hilarious.
Reminds me of after my son's birth. I was so intrigued by the placenta that I took a pic.

I'd be very uncomfortable with this fee. I would not go to a medical facility if there was a good alternative. My program had no 'fee.' I'm not renting a movie from Blockbuster.

Hugs Ana - do you have anyone support around you to help you and support you? It sounds like you need it right now.

I always eat until a I am full. Not uncomfortable, but full and satisfied. It doesn't take that much, but I never weigh it.

Yeah i had one put in. It was a few moment of discomfort during insertion and then more just cramping, No reason to take off work, at least with my experience. Much LESS painful than giving birth!

The article I read said she had the surgery July 2013 and has lost 40 lbs. Appears to be current info as of about late Jan, early Feb 2014.
I would have to agree that it seems slow for the sleeve, but good for her! I hope she continues on a positive path of weight loss. Slow & steady can be good too.

I would suggest a therapist. They can help work through this with you, and get to the root. I see one twice a month and have found it to be very helpful on my journey. You can Google one who specializes in obesity.
Good luck.

Oh my mom was convinced I'd die. She asked if I had made 'arrangements,' said said she should probably be there as a my medical guardian.
It's been about 6 weeks since my surgery. I felt look poo for a couple days, then recovered fast. I feel GREAT. I can eat anything in small portions. I haven't found anything that doesn't sit well with me.

Oh and random thought, but I think my dislike toward tracking has to due with sometimes having to guess. It' drives me batty to think the numbers are inaccurate.
Crazy, I know. My type-A is showing.

Awesome thanks for the feedback. I am going to cut out some liquid calories. Easy way to decrease my calorie intake a notch. Also, I didn't know I could also see what other sleevers are logging on My Fitness Pal. That's very cool! I will be new to the site but I'm going to give it a go.
I do believe tracking is important. It's time to create a new, good habit. Even if it's not every day, my NUT suggested maybe three days a week to help keep on track.
I love hearing others daily meal plans, too

I am miss anti-tracker.
Always have been, since I Weight Watcher'd the crap out of myself in my 20's. I just have no tracking energy anymore.
So here's how I'm doing without tracking Protein, calories, etc.... anything really.
I am 2 months post op sleeve & have lost about just 1 pound in the last 2 weeks, but about 40 pounds since 12/13/13, including about 10 lbs in the the 10 day preop diet.
Breakfast: Starbuck's Tall sugar free, Non fat Mocha
Late Breakfast Snack: 2 slices (about an once-2 ounces) of deli turkey
Lunch: 3/4 cup cottage cheese with lots of pepper
Snack: Starbuck's Tall Non Fat Salted Caramel Mocha.
Pre-Dinner: 2 slices deli turkey

I don't have any history with him, but outpatient is pretty typical and considered safe for most getting the sleeve procedure.
