  1. Getting surgery done on Sept 10th........Dr Alvarez, so excited
  2. Same thing happened to me. About 3 days after I posted, the pain got better. Now I wake up, don't feel anything until I have to cough, sneeze or twist a certain way - then whammy! Then I have to "baby" it for the rest of the day. It is so much better than it was. Now it is nagging. Last night walking, I would have to stop and push in to support the area several times to make it back home. This is the only thing that is holding me back from anything. When it really gets me is getting in and out of my car, my seat is kinda low, sport car, low. Have just stayed out of my car as much as possible. It does and is getting better!
  3. I am so glad that I am not the only one! I have a pretty high pain tolerance and this incision pain has kicked my ass. I had surgery 9/10. Have felt great from day 1 except for this knife stabbing pain in my "big incision". When I move certain ways, boy, takes my breath away. It won't let loose until I get in a completely different position which takes a minute or 2. It's getting old in my opinion. I am thinking about getting the abdominal binder just so I can get back to work. Hoping all of your pain gets better soon, I am praying that we all will just wake up one morning and it will be gone.

    Where are the 50s ???

That is all fantastic news. Today was my day 5 post op. I am feeling better every day. Still pretty bloated, getting my protein and fluids in. No nausea, vomiting or weakness. Still have the stabbing pain to the one incision, Tordol takes care of it pretty good. I am very leary about getting on the scale. I don't think I will until this next Thurs, that will be 1 week since I started taking in fluid by mouth. I am happy to hear that most of you all are doing well.

    Omg i want to die

I am soooo sorry to hear this. I hope when you wake in the am, it will be better. Hopefully you still have your iv. What are they saying?
  7. There seems to be so many of us having surgery this month. I am glad not to be hearing any horror stories. Today was day 5 for me, I am able to take deeper breaths now, seems the hernia repair has settled down. Still have the one incision pain, not like too many sit ups, more like a knife stabbing me. Thankfully the Toradol does take care of the pain for a while. I am still very swollen, I am peeing like a race horse but I am still really puffy. Still will not get on the scale, I don't want to be disappointed. I will get on it next Thursday, the day I started drinking fluids after the surgery. No problems drinking, still, no nausea, vomiting or dizziness. I am getting my protein in---I drink 2 of the nectar's a day, thats 46 gms of protein. Drink 1 cup of injury chicken soup - 20 grams and 1 cup of milk - 8 grams. So that is 64 grams of protein for the day. I am not sure if the milk is causing my gut to rumble or not. I need to drink it earlier in the day tomarrow to see if it does the same thing. I hope I have not become lactose intolerant. Will check it out and let you'll know. I am thinking of you all, praying that all works out well! I am keeping a positive attitude and I know that "this too shall pass".
  8. Surgery was 9/10. I still have discomfort from the large incision. People say it's like doing too many sit ups, not for me, it's like a knife stabbing me. It's toloralbe for the time being. I was hoping to be finished taking the pain mads, Toradol, bit I think I will probably be takeing them tomorrow also. They do take the edge off. I am getting my fluids and protein in, well, mabe a bit short on the protein but not by much. Walking does help a lot! Drinking the injury chicken soup, not bad. Really working on not getting dehydrated, don't have the time or $ to go get hydrated at the hospital. Sipping like there is no tomorrow. Still no hungar pain, but this afternoon started to get some head hunger. Just have to keep my eye on the prize! Good luck to you all, I understand fully. Let me know if I can help at all. One more question. on u tube a lady was talking about chili from Wendy's. Sounded sooooo good, does anyone know how to break it down so it could be an option for us? THANKS for all you all do, it is so nice to know I am not alone trying to find myself going through this a lone! Will try to hook up on the Facebook site. Good night to all, hope tomorrow is better than today!

    Where are the 50s ???

Surgery was 9/10. Came home today. Feeling pretty bloated, I am retaining fluids. No nausea, vomiting, weakness or dizziness. My surgeon found a hiatal hernia and fixed it. I am grateful he saw it and hopefully I will never have trouble from it again. I never dreamed that I would have a hernia! It just makes it a little difficult to get a deep breath. I am working on the drinking, sipping. You know, it's not that easy to do. I do get air, I just have to burp it. So far, so good. will keep you'll posted.
  10. Good afternoon all. Had my surgery on Tues, 10th. Got home today from Mexico. Dr Alvarez did my surgery and found a hernia. So glad he did, and fixed it. All in all, it has gone well. I am retaining a lot of fluid, trying to walk a lot, well, not really a lot, but enough for now. I have tightness in my chest, which I should expect from the hernia repair. No nausea, vomiting, weakness or dizziness. Getting my water down as much as possible. I am going forward with all positive thoughts....not going to get upset if I don't get every ounce of water in, etc. Don't be hard on yourself, get plenty of rest, move around to keep the fluids moving. Will check back in later.....for all you guys waiting for your date, it will be here before you know it. Oh, and last thought, stay away from the scale for a little while.

    Where are the 50s ???

I have to think about this for a second.....yea, I think I am 57. I never think of the number anymore..Having my surgery Sept 10th. I am so excited. Since I have made up my mind to do this and get my date, I have been putting weight on. I am reading about how most everyone has done the pre-diet. I was told I didn't need to but now I think I better check on this since I have been gaining. Will be so glad to get this behind me, all I do in my spare time is read the forums. I never even thought anything about doing this "at my age" until I read that others have questioned it. I am still hip and love living life. I have lots of traveling to do and looking mighty fine doing it. Looking forward to being able to pack a smaller suit case!!!!
  13. SEPTEMBER 10TH!!! Dr. Alvarez, Piedras Negras---Del Rio, Texas I have not told many people, esp not family......don't want to hear it. Could never tell my mother, she is 84, and she would never understand why I would/could do it. She would be too worried. Anyway, I hear only good things about my surgeon. He is very prudent and my diet will be going really slow after surgery. He puts out these great U Tubes about the surgery and any question you can think of. I just pray that I am not going to be one of the 1% that has a problem. I have to get back to work in 2 weeks after. Great to see we have quite a group....good luck to everybody!
  14. marfar 7, I have noticed the same thing! I have been thinking that they have to be new pictures after wt loss or pictures before the weight gain. That's so funny, I have been wondering how so many "thin" people are having this surgery........... vertical sleeve talk has really opened my eyes to how many people are having this surgery done EVERY DAY! This is more profitable for the surgeons than even plastic surgery! Hugh industry!
  15. oh, Amy, thanks so much for the reply! I have been keeping up with you surgery and I read that you had some difficulty with the hernia repair. I am so glad you are better and even going back to work already! I feel so much better with your reply. I will talk with Susan. Did you get to meet Susan? What did they give for "pain meds"? I just want some Versed so I don't remember anything, ha ha. Looks like you were off for a month.....what would it have been like for you if you had to go back after 2 weeks?
  16. It just seems that we put our body in starvation mode and the weight will hold tight. I have never been an exerciser, i realize I will have to make new habits. But around 800 calories a day, I think I may be too weak to exercise?

    foamies question

How long does it last, couple of weeks?
  19. Where should we all hook up and talk about how we are doing after surgery? This site? I am Sept 10th with Dr Alvarez in Mex. Anyone else on Sept 10th with him? I know he only does a couple of them a day, anyone on the 9th or 11th with him? I am so looking forward to this......my "fear", nausea, vomiting and a leak. I only hear good things about my surgeon and with great outcomes. I am praying! My benefit? Let me count the ways....for one, to get back out in the world and feel good about myself, instead of going to work and back home. To wear the clothes hanging in my closet. To socialize, to travel with smaller clothes that i can mix and match easily. To go visit family and feel proud instead of not going because "I don't have anything to wear". To look forward to going places instead of dreading it. To being more active, get into a excercise routine. To getting out of bed on my days off, to being more healthy and being present in my life and live it! I could go on and on about the benefit. I think about that more than looking at "what food I don't get to eat and the quantity that i eat" anymore. I hate it every time I drive thru to get cookies to eat at work and hide them so others don't see me eating them. The shame of getting bigger and bigger. My scrubs getting tighter and tighter. My bras getting tighter and digging into my back. The good certainly out weigh the "bad". I am ready to get out of bed and come out of the closet.....or back into my closet and be able to wear what is in there! I want to be honest some day about the secret hell I have put myself through, hope to help others come to terms with their "hell" And praying that we all will have great outcomes, no leaks, minimal nausea, pain and minimal tears.
  20. Hello there everybody, have been all over this web site and have read it from top to bottom. Glad to find this group. I have been an RN for 28 yrs. Wow, how time flies! I have probably done every kind of nursing out there. Hated the desk jobs, did not care for supervisory or director nursing. My favorite type of nursing has been ER and trauma surgery. Did surgery for years, have been out of it for several yrs now. (It's my love, I still dream about being in the OR. ) I wanted all kinds of experience so I jumped around enough to where now I have to focus on gathering retirement. So,now I am working for the county, as a correctional nurse. I have always love excitement and I get plenty of it daily! I have always had problems with my weight, have been on every diet more than 4-6 times. WW probably about 10 times. Every time I lost, I swore that I would never go back......heard that before? You guys know. Long story short, getting my sleeve done Sept 10th by Dr Alvarez in Mexico. Super excited but I am only going to be able to take off 2 weeks from work. I will get to do the desk work when I get back, for a while and my co workers will pull my slack if needed. I am going to Mexico by myself, I am not all about an audience. Even gave my sister the wrong date. I would like to know energy levels of others at 2 weeks out. Nausea is also a concern. And I need to learn how to sip, sip, sip......Thank you all for the devotion and knowledge you'll share, it's reassuring!
  21. The question that I have, I have not seen on the post before. If the sleeve is 3-4oz, how long does it take for you'll to drink it? The protein shakes I have made in the past are like 16 oz once it is blended
