Michelle, where in TN did you have your surgery? I'm going with Dr. Houston at Centennial in Nashville
-
I've already gotten my flu shot as I teach and need all the help I can get lol. What I am wondering about is if I should get a pneumonia shot.
-
I was under the impression from your post that your doc had quoted a decades old study - that concerned me thinking he/ she is not doing more up to date research. That's what "didn't work for me."
-
My doctor gave me a fabulous statistic' date=' that for me, really puts things in perspective, and helps calm the nay-sayers:"Stunkard and McLaren-Hume's 1959 study of 100 obese individuals, which indicated that, 2 y after treatment, only 2% maintained a weight loss of 9.1 kg (20 lb) or more (1)" Source: http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/82/1/222S.full

I can't believe your doc can't get more recent stats than one over 50 years old.

Thanks for being so generous!

AngiD - I'm with you - never had a hospital stay so this is all very new!

Kkrose, I've not had a c-section but I have read a lot of posts from folks here saying their recovery from the sleeve surgery was much smoother than from their c-sections

Done! Thanks!!!!

I'm interested Deb

Thanks, I hope so too! I'm just a little bummed because so much stuff has been hitting that needs $$$$$. But I am nothing if not determined to make everything work!
Elhudge, where are you having your surgery?
-
I'm scheduled for 12/16 with all of my pre-op stuff getting done on 11/25. Right now is hoping I get the money scraped up. I thought it would be all taken care of by now but a few emergencies have popped up. I really hope I don't have to reschedule! *sigh*. Self pay sucks

Did anyone else see the irony that out of the top 10 states for obesity, only 3 are going to offer coverage for bariatric surgery?

Yes, the poohsoup0803 pic is the one I was talking about - thank you so much!

Most docs who have self pay rates that I have researched do break things down - since insurance isn't involved, all the money is going straight to the entity. My center gave me the fees broken down by surgeon, hospital, and anesthesiologist.

Hmmm...I thought it was a female who posted and I don't think it was in cosmetics and plastics. I'm talking about the actual stomach that they had their doc take a pic of before and after their VSG surgery
Sorry if I wasn't clear the first time

Someone recently posted a picture of their stomach before surgery and immediately afterwards. I wanted to show my husband but can't find it now. I did a search but oddly enough when you put in the search "stomach picture" or just stomach a lot of stuff comes up! Thanks in advance!

Nice to meet another local . Who did your surgery?
And yes, I can appreciate the vivid imaginations lol

This is my first ever as well. Hate not knowing how my body will react to things.

I usually go to the Thursday noon meetings - I teach from 12-4 on Tuesday so right now those aren't an option. Although I have 10/15 meeting on my calendar - maybe that is fall break. I love the support meetings overall. Love being able to pick the brains of the folks who have been there, done that
I hope things go quickly for you! I'm not going to lie, every so often I have little freak outs about surgery. But between visiting here and going to the support meetings, I feel much better. I've never had any kind of surgery so just the whole unknown has me stressed.
-
Heather, when did you get diagnosed with the hernia? If I was going with Dr.Nick, I would have had all my pre-op work done on a Monday and surgery on a Tuesday.
-
I'm December 16 too! My labs and everything are scheduled for Nov 25. Excited to have a sleeve sister!

I have a question for my fellow vertically challenged folks. I see many folks mention "losing slowly." Is this because you have less to lose to start with? Or is this happening because folks are short. I assume the former, but....
Also, for the slow losers, have you noticed your skin keeping up with your weight loss?

Congrats! Getting closer & closer!
-
Hopefully things went well and you are recovering nicely. Congrats to you for taking charge of your health! I look forward to hearing how things went!
I'm so excited but still seems so far away

Ah, yes, I was looking at Dr. Shaw there. Heard nothing but good about them!
