    OMG October 2013 Post-ops

I hope you feel better soon, Angie. A few weeks ago, I had a similar experience with seared tuna. It was awful! I actually moaned for hours until I puked twice. I had seared tuna before with no problem. It was the first time I regretted surgery since day 2. I almost feel guilty that I have had a fairly smooth recovery. I've settled into routines that seem to be working. There was a scheduling mixup and I had my 3 month follow- up at 2 months. The PA and Nut said it was no big deal, so I've already had my 3 month labs. As expected, Iron was low so I've stared taking iron at night. Protein was also low, so even though I was getting at least 60g per day, I was told to add more. I was also told to start adding more variety and more quantity 1/2-3/4 c per meal. The best news is So far 60lbs (30 pre-op, 30 post-op) are gone forever! I hope we get some more Oct updates. How are you handling the holiday parties and food festivities? Molly

    How about some NSVs!?!?

A ring guard fits inside a ring to make it smaller. It can be fitted at a jeweler- kind of welded on. Or there are temporary ring guards available online.

    OMG October 2013 Post-ops

I'm 2 months post-op and I'm not hungry either. I asked about it at my 6 week checkup and I was told it may take 6 months or so before hunger returns and that when it returns it will be different than hunger was pre-op. My hardest days are the weekend when I don't work. I forget to eat. I've noticed recently that I get a bit crabby and then I realize that I need to eat or drink a Protein drink. Then I feel better. During the week when I work, I pack my lunch and Snacks (protein drinks) slim a bit better about eating them. Molly

    Food scale help?

I use a food scale daily. I started using it pre-op, so I'd be able to judge serving sizes along with measuring cups and spoons. Molly

  9. I started my journey thinking I wanted the lapband. About 4 months after working with a nutritionist (insurance required a 6 month supervised diet), I had my first consultation with my surgeon. The surgeon told me that the risks and benefits of sleeve or bypass were much better than the lapband. Because of my GERD, he ordered an upper endoscopy. When I went for my 5th appointment with the nutritionist, I told her about what the surgeon had said. She then told me that a lot of her patients were failed lapband and that they were trying to qualify for a revision to the sleeve or bypass. Then the endoscopy showed I had the beginning of Barrett's Esophagus. Since only a bypass stops the progression of BE, that's why I chose bypass. Molly

    OMG October 2013 Post-ops

I'll probably have some turkey and squash, but most of the feast will have too much fat and/or carbs. Here's the menu: roast turkey, sausage stuffing, mashed potatoes, roasted winter squash, candied carrots, brussels sprouts with bacon, corn casserole, sweet potatoes with bourbon and pecans, grand Manier cranberry sauce, gravy, rolls with butter, apple pie and pumpkin pie. Most of these things I only make once a year for Thanksgiving. When I've tried to make changes to the menu, I get puppy dog eyes from my family. Molly

    OMG October 2013 Post-ops

Hey gals and guys, I just read some posts in another month's thread about what they are thankful for. In the spirit of the holidays starting this week (the US Thanksgiving and Chanukah) and the whole season, what are you thankful for? I'm thankful that I am not bothered by cooking post-op. I have a feast planned for Thursday for my family and friends. I love to cook and have others enjoy it. I'm also thankful for the support of family and friends and my new online friends who also have had WLS. Molly

Lapband Vs Sleeve Vs Bypass Surgery

I started my journey thinking I wanted the lapband, but after my initial conversation with m surgeon, I was tossed up between sleeve and bypass. My results from an upper endoscopy (Barrett's esophagus) helped me decide bypass. 7.5 weeks later, no regrets. Molly

    First Consulation

Hi Betsy, Welcome to these forums and your journey! I had a similar experience and I used the time to make a change each month so all the lifestyle changes weren't so abrupt. First one, log what you eat and drink. I use MyFinessPal, but there are many apps and websites that do this. Good luck!

My clinic's plan is soft foods between 6 weeks and 3 months. At 6 weeks, I ate about 1/4 c of food 3x per day plus 2-3 Protein drinks. My Nut said to slowly increase to 1/2 c food per meal and at least 2 Protein Drinks as Snacks. So a typical day for me is 1/2 slice of wheat bread with a tsp of cream cheese and 1.5 oz lox for Breakfast, 1/2 c cottage cheese for lunch and 2-3 oz of meatballs for dinner with 1 8 oz Isopure and 1 11 oz pure protein chocolate for two snacks.. Leg Cramps

You should definitely bring this up with your doctor. My best guess is that it might not happen since you'll have to take extra Vitamins and sometimes leg cramps are due to low vitamins and nutrients. Molly
  20. There are so many variables (age, amount to lose, gender, is this a revision or first surgery, etc.) as to whether one is a slow loser or not. Is it temporary stall, will our loss speed up and are we weighing ourselves too often are all questions I ask myself. I'm 7 weeks post op, have lost 20 pounds post op (52 total so far). I thought I was a slow user until this past week when 1/4 of my post op loss happened. I've never lost so much weight in a week before. Trying to take the long view and trust that if I follow the guidelines, I'll lose. Plus these 52 lbs are now gone forever! Reason to Celebrate for sure! Molly
