  1. I don't think any of us have broken our sleeves--we're just going into a new phase where we've lost and lost and lost quite a bit of weight. Our bodies have learned to adjust to fewer calories and higher activity levels, so now, we're like skinny people--we gotta fight for every half pound. My dietician explained it by pointing out that when I was 238 lbs, my body needed a larger number of calories even "at rest". At 158, there's 80 lbs less of me to fuel, so I need a lot fewer calories at rest. My options are either eat fewer calories (which would be tough since I'm not eating all that many nowadays!) or to move a lot more. She recommended weight resistance (hand weights, or using your body weight to do lunges, planks, pushups, etc.) since muscle tissue burns more calories at rest than fat does. Our sleeves are still doing their jobs, you didn't break anything...we just have to work a whole lot harder now. But we can absolutely get there--even half a pound at a time, or up one pound, down a half, up three, down two. Hang in there, July sleevers!

Thank you for this post. It is encouraging to me. I was sleeved on July 1 and am down 74 lbs. I feel stuck...

  2. I know this might sound really dumb, but did anyone post op wear makeup to surgery? Not that it's important to wear makeup , cus I know it's a serious surgery, but you know how you feel good if you look good, type of thing, I'm Just wondering ?

    I was instructed not to.

  3. Was sleeved on 1/27 and my surgeon told me I could have anything that would go thru a straw and I chose liquified mashed potatoes last night. Today I am in a lot more pain and my belly is huge! Has this happened to anyone and do you think I caused damage to my sleeve!

Did you actually use a straw??

  4. He looks great I am soooooooo happy that they worked it out and they end...man just think once he gets more skin removed he will probably be about 15lbs smaller. Good luck to Chuck and Nissa.....ok this is off the subject but what they heck is this show that is coming on after this...people who want to look like a DOLL? Why?

I tried to watch it but it was just too weird for me!

  5. Oh no I switched from thinking of the band to having the sleeve. did you have lots of pain? I hear a lot of people say they didn't use their meds

I had lots of pain for the fort eight days. I couldn't go from sitting to standing without help. HOWEVER, I had to have two more incisions than anticipated because of the enormous amount of fat that was surrounding my liver. Dr told my husband that a fairly simple procedure became rather complicated because of it. I say that to say there was a lot more going on in my guy that most peoples. The Tylenol 3 dint help me at all. After three days of crying- not from he pain but for no reason at all- we discovered that is was the codeine in the T3 that was making me cry. Ugh!!!

  6. I am only 5 weeks post-op and have been losing faster than some but less than others. Have any of you slow losers tried to mix things up? Make sure your basics are covered: Water, Protein and Vitamins. Then try changing your workout, add intervals to treadmill biking or elliptical. If you are doing mostly cardio add some strength training. If you always use the same equipment try something new. For your diet try not eating before you workout, try bumping up your calories after a few days in a stall, anything to trick your body.

    Great thoughts!!!
