    July 2013 Sleevers

I was sleeved on 7/10 and am on soft foods now. The hardest part for me is to take small bites and go slowly. I'm still working on not drinking when I eat. I sometimes sneak in a sip. :-) My main concern has been going to the bathroom. Thank goodness for milk of magnesia! I also don't have much urge to urinate which seems weird because I'm drinking constantly. I don't know if the constipation is causing water retention..? I didn't have much pain after the surgery - maybe a 2 or 3. Most of my pain was in moving from standing to sitting/laying down or getting into or out of bed. I swear I thought my stitches on the left side were going to burst open. I'm trying to keep everything looking easy because I really want my hubby to be sleeved and he is watching my experience before he decides.

    July 10th! So excited!

My experience in Everett was great. The doctors and staff are really friendly and caring. I don't start on soft foods until Weds, so looking forward to that, how was the transition for you? Did you find any foods easier than others? I'm kinda looking forward to a soft boiled egg, of all things!

Hi Doz. I was at NWWLS in Everett. How has your recovery been?

I had my first and only nausea moment yesterday when I took my chewable vitamins on an empty stomach. I thought I would still have some of the Protein shake in my stomach, but apparently it moved through me quickly! I seriously thought I was going to throw up...scary. The weird thing is that it passed after about 5 minutes. I tried again this morning and chewed it between sips and was fine. Lesson learned!

I had my one week post op check up today. I'm still a bit swollen and I'd been a bit concerned about that. Doc said to drink 64 oz water a day and get between 60-80 grams of protein. The pains in the incisions have almost gone away and I'm getting a bit more energy. I will admit I'm not walking as much as I should be though....old habits die hard! Next checkup in a month.
  6. One of the primary reasons I decided to get sleeved is that I'm currently watching my mom die from pancreatic cancer. I know obesity, high blood sugar, etc contributes to the horrible disease, so I wanted to take control of my health before it's too late. I also did a lot of research and still think the benefits outweigh (pun intended!) the other 'possible' consequences. Good health to all of you.

How are you doing today, Fitzright? I started on full liquids this morning. It took me over an hour to finish a small protein drink! I'm not having to concentrate on the super small sips now. I still sip, but they are more of my 'normal' size sips. Now I want to get more into a regular eating pattern of 3 meals with a snack or two and water in between. I was kind of a grazer before, so it will be a challenge for me to be more mindful. I'm still a bit sore when I get up or shift positions and it takes me a few seconds to be fully upright when I stand. And, my scale hasn't budged yet, but I'm still a bit swollen so I'm not going to worry about it much. I am back to work tomorrow. Have a great day,

I'm still sore and having a hard time getting fluids down. I'm not sure the volume I should be drinking. I keep telling myself that its only for a few days and then I should be able to drink more. How about you? Feeling ok?

Well, I survived! I'm home now and trying to take small sips of Water and clear Isopril. The pain feels like I did about 2000 crunches. It is a little sore to move or shift in bed, but walking seems to feel pretty good. One weird thing is being able to feel the sips hit the sleeve. It is pretty uncomfortable at first. i met Dr Chock today for my leak test. She had me take a sip of this really vile liquid so that we could watch it go through the sleeve. I found out that my idea of a sip equals about 3 sips to her. The big sip I took ended up refluxing. That really put perspective the size of my stomach. For the NWWLS patients, the nursing staff was awesome. They only have 2 people at a time overnight so they are really there to serve you.

Yeah us!! Good luck on yours! I found out I don't check in until 11am which will be a killer since I can't eat or drink after midnight tonight. I'll have to swish Water in my mouth and spit it out!

Congrats, I had both of my kids at Evergreen. It's a nice hospital. I didn't get covered by insurance because my BMI wasn't high enough (which is such a joke) so I think that's why my process moved so quickly. I hope you hear good news back from yours. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!
