  1. Craving salty snacks. I had so hoped that my tastebuds would change post-op and I would hate things like popcorn and chips. Nope.

    The Uncomfortable Truth....

My childhood expains how I got started on the road to overeating, with some deeply ingrained habits. But to me, it doesn't explain why I was not able to change, despite a depth of food and nutrition and exercise and knowledge that could earn me a PhD. I long ago made peace with childhood issues. What I need now is to attend to today's issues, and also behavior management techniques to get me and keep me on track.
  3. I used to always throw up vitamins. I have no problem with nutrametrix multi powder. I also use their calcium powder - mix them and take them at the same time. Highly absorbable isotonic vitamin. Recommended by my NUT.

    November fitness challenge

I am in for 30 hours of exercise in November! I will have done 8 hours this week if I go to my yoga class today. Did 7 hrs last week. That about doubles where I was at. I want to keep up the pace I recently ramped up to! Loving it! Zumba, Gravity, Latin Heat, Yoga, and Spinning!
  5. Catheter, but I barely even remember it, that's how quick and uneventful it was.

    I'm embarrassed...

Just push yourself to go a few times and you will get over it. I put off joining a gym for years for the same reasons. I got over it within a few weeks. It helps to do the stuff you find to be fun. I am personally much happier doing Zumba than the treadmill etc. group classes will force you to meet people etc.

    Eggs?

Same. Much easier time with restaurant eggs.

    Eggs?

Some foods nauseate me now, including eggs. I think it's just some proteins are tough to digest. It helps me limit my portions. Chicken and shrimp and fish can all nauseate me too. Not all the time, but often enough ...
  9. To me, the biggest perk of the surgery is that I finally can relax and not obsess and be successful. I might lose slower because I am not obsessing, but it is just such a psychological relief. I have read enough comments from the vets to know that I will probably need to be more diligent when I am further out. I am making an effort to become active enough that hopefully that will mitigate things to some extent.

    Caffeine addict

I was a big coffee drinker like you, and I definitely thought twice about the surgery just for this reason alone! I went off caffeine for 2 pregnancies, but that was years ago --- and I was younger and had more energy then! I decided to detox from caffeine about 2 weeks before my pre-op diet, and it was much easier than I expected. I dosed myself with aleve round the clock for 3 days and stayed well hyrdrated. No pain at all. I do think I dulled mentally for a couple of months, but I was dealing with the surgery and all so who knows why. I do think I will eventually return to one cup a day.

    July sleevers please check in..

5'3" 46 yo HW - 273 SW - 265 CW - 228 45# down 26/28 and just bought a size 20 top - yay! But mostly I am a 22/2x now. Very sedentary to I just went to the gym 6 days straight! My routine is - M - Gravity and Zumba, T - Zumba; W - Gravity and 30 min treadmill; Th - Zumba, Fri - off, Sat and Sun - 35 min circuit, 20 min treadmill, 10 rowing, 10 crossramp I feel great mental/psychological relief to not be able to eat as much. I still see some of my overeating/junk food tendencies rise up. I seem to eat a little bit of stuff I shouldn't daily. I think I am at about 1000 calories a day, but I should be at 800. I successfully transitioned off of the PPI I went on after surgery. I had about a week of struggle with acid and it was causing me to reach for carbs to absorb. But, my stomach finally settled and I am glad I gave it some time instead of going back on PPI.

    Daily Miralax

My NUT recommends aloe juice, but I haven't tried it yet. Been struggling through. Eating a serving of dry roasted edamame on most days helps me.
  13. Starting weight 273. Day of surgery 7/10 - 265. Current weight 230.

    pain?

I am 2 months out and trying to go without a PPI as of tomorrow. Wish me luck. I did not have reflux pre-op, but had extra stomach acid post-op. I hope I don't need to stay on one. But I do know that the stomach acid mimics hunger and I look for carbs to absorb ...
  15. This is very exciting news! Hope they come to my neck of the woods!

    warning:TMI - constipation

I've had some tough times but have not taken a laxative yet, for better or for worse! Eating dry roasted edamame as a protein source has been very helpful to me. 7 g fiber in a quarter cup! 14 G protein. I find it very gentle on my digestive track.
  17. What convinced me ... 1) Statistics. 2) If not now, when?
  18. Piece of cake, and good practice for the big day. My surgeon did mine and I looked at it as a way to get to know him better and develop trust etc. the pleasant surprise is he has sleeved like half the hospital and so my preop nurse etc had been sleeved too and was very reassuring. Nice experience.

    Whats for dinner?

    Southwest chicken and quinoa soup

    What are you eating?

I am 8 weeks out, and try to eat dry roasted edamame every day. I am having trouble with meat, and so this helps me with Protein, and also Fiber. And I was always a salty snacker, and so this helps me meet that craving. 14 G protein and 7 g fiber per quarter cup. I may do a Protein shake every other day or so. Otherwise, it's Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, meat/fish, some cooked veggies, and fruit.

    Any DE/PA/NJ/MD sleevers?

I took 2 and a half weeks off, but he would have let me go back after a week (a friend sleeved by him on the same day returned after a week). I was on clear liquids for a week, but my friend got to start shakes on discharge from hospital. I think it was because of the reflux that developed with me. I am now almost 2 months out, and I'm doing well! Happy with it so far. Back to regular food and not many shakes. I didn't really realize the shake part wouldn't last that long, but I'm happy about that. Trying to step up the exercise now. Sorry it took me so long to respond! I must have missed the notification. Good luck to you!
  22. I use my food scale a lot. I didn't use a blender much, or food processor at all. I used the blender for shakes preop, but post op the froth made me nauseous (even when I let the shake DIY and settle for 30 mins).
  23. I had read a whole lot about the procedure when I was contemplating and also during preop. I knew the surgery was only a tool and that I would have to so the work. But, I really did not have a good understanding of slider foods; what problems you may run into if you are a grazer: and once the weight was off, what the daily maintenance calories are likely to be. I am happy with my decision an sleeve, but these are the things that I keep going over in my head that I wish I knew before. I dunno, maybe I would have been more mentally prepared for those aspects.
  24. This might sound silly, but many of us don't even know what clothes being too big feels like. It's only happened a couple times in my life! And I am comfortable in baggy! At least I am comfortable! Now having clothes be too small or fit too tight - I know all to well what that feels like!
