  1. Roasted edamame is a blessing! Yum! Doesn't make me feel sick! 14 G protein in a quarter cup and 7 g fiber!
  2. I get hungry, but then full up fast, and a lot of foods make me queasy. I don't through up, but they make my stomach turn. Eggs, chicken ... Lots of stuff I am supposed to be eating makes me feel sick ish.

    Tell Coworkers?

I told everyone. For me, it's easier that way, and I've gotten a heck of a lot more support that way. I have not gotten any negativity from it. But, I don't think it would bother me if someone didn't agree with my decision. Some people are just not informed enough to understand and just don't get it. Also, by telling everybody, I don't have to get mad if people talk about it and so and so tells so and so.

    Vitamin frustration

I was told by my NUT to take a multi that was plant based for absorbency; Calcium citrate; and B12. I also take Vitamin D for my own personal needs. I started on nutrametrix multi and calcium, which is isotonic and easily absorbed. I threw it up the other day and so it is making me nauseous (hopefully temporary) and so I am using Eco Drink, which I like. It is powdered and can be diluted and tastes like tang.
  5. Went for my 1 month post-op appt yesterday, and was surprised by the improvement in my resting heart rate! It dropped from 97 to 72! I wasn't really tracking my blood pressure preop, but knew it was climbing, but not to the point of being medicated yet. Yesterday, it was 108/80. And I am 27 # down since 6/25 pre-op diet : )
  6. Thank you! Surprised that major improvement came so quick. I have been very worried about my RHR. No wonder I've been worn out, carrying all this around!

    Non believers

I'll just say ... Cheers! Me too. Well past debating the subject ... I try to live and let live.
  8. My NUT recommends the powders because they have less additives. I've used both. Premade really helps with convenience, especially on trips and for emergencies. Plus, my go to premade was Premier Chocolate, and it didn't taste as sweet, which was appealing. And the premade don't get frothy like the mixes can.

    Any DE/PA/NJ/MD sleevers?

I'm in Annapolis! Sleeved at AAMC by Dr. Gandsas. I work out of offices in Lanham, Wheaton, Germantown, and Oxon Hill so I am on DC beltway alot!
  10. For all of my life, vitamins would bother my stomach if it was empty. I was so worried how I would tolerate vitamins post-op with so little in the tummy. My NUT recommended nutrametrix which are powdered isotonic vitamins. I take the multi and calcium and mix and drink all at once and it counts towards my water too. He taste is like a sour tang. I recommend mixing it with ice cold water for best taste. www.nutrametrix.com

    Greek Yogurt

I love Siggi's Orange and Ginger! Technically not Greek, but it's Icelandic Skyr, which is similar. It is just a touch of sweet. But I'm still not eating stuff that's even a little sweet so I've switched to their plain.

    july 2013 sleevers

I am really sensitive to vitamins too --- typically they would make me sick to my stomach if I had not eaten.. So, I was worried about how vitamins were going to stay down! Nutrametrix is supposed to be easy to digest because it's an isotonic solution. http://www.nutrametrix.com/

    july 2013 sleevers

I take nutrametrix powder multivitamin and calcium that dissolves in water. It is an isotonic multivitamin that is a highly absorbable form, and recommended by my NUT. Both can be mixed together, and taken only once a day, minimizing cals and carbs. The taste is a sour citrus drink - which I prefer to the too sweet. Must follow directions regarding amount of water for the mixture to be isotonic. I recommend that you use very cold water for best taste.
  15. My pain was even alleviated the day after I got home from the hospital! Just the 10+ # from the preop helped my hips and ankles! I went to a party and mingled for 6 hours, standing periodically, and not shifting my weight or searching it a chair. I am 3 weeks out and started Zumba last week, along with returning to Water aerobics. It's probs too soon for the demands of Zumba but I've made it thru 3 classes so I am trying to stick with it. It ain't easy, but with weight coming off, I know it will get easier quicker. I am much more motivated with exercise now that I am not overstuffed with food each day. It makes a huge difference.
  16. I do 2 days of water aerobics and I just added 2 days of Zumba. Also trying to catch the treadmill and circuit weights at the gym when I can. If you have concerns where to start, I highly recommend water aerobics. It is a pleasure and I have not had one day where I have not felt like going. Once you get going with that, you will feel better about adding other forms of exercise.

    Out of work

I took 2.5, but I have a friend who took just a little over a week. We both did fine with RTW. I needed to get back to a structured routine.

Popcorn seems to be a slider food for many.

    july 2013 sleevers

Something I already learned in my 2 short weeks - Don't throw shake choices away just yet! Right out of the hospital, several of the shakes I bought preop totally turned my stomach. 2 weeks later ... much more palatable. Don't assume that you can't tolerate certain shakes. Save and try again!

    Sweet taste

Even though it doesn't involve protein - I give myself a break from the sweet by having a cup of chicken bouillon a day. It is super high in sodium, but I find myself needing to get that sweet taste out of my mouth sometimes. Plus, I am more oriented towards salty foods than sweet, and so the shakes part is hard for me.
  21. Write down the schedule and time yourself if you need to. Put it on your iphone if you have one and use a timer. My NUT wrote down some sample scheds.

    I need Advice!

I just don't think a person at that age is mature enough to deal with the lifetime restrictions this surgery brings. She may seem mature enough at this point in time, but teenagers evolve and it ain't always pretty. She may deal with the initial post op diet OK, and even the first year, but ... with all of the things I have read about potential for regain ... and all the things that teenagers do, including drinking ... I just can't imagine she is ready to handle the lifetime of risks and changes this surgery imposes. I do regret not doing this surgery earlier in my life, but I never would have handled it properly at that age. You have to get to a certain point where you are ready to submit and eyes are wide open. And even though I see this surgery as the best chance for success, I still see it as a last resort. Give her a chance to learn better habits through your new lifestyle.
  25. I was a real big coffee drinker, and even thought twice whether to do this surgery just over the giving up caffeine issue. I truly did not think I would be able to do it. I weaned myself down to 2 cups a day over a couple of months. I then decided that I wanted to get off caffeine before I had to deal with my preop diet, in order to minimize the misery. About a month before surgery, over a weekend, I gave it up cold turkey and dosed myself with naproxen round the clock for 3 days straight. Not one headache! I think the trick is to dose yourself before the headache sets in. I felt a little dull and disoriented, but ... no nausea or bad headaches as expected! So.... this part may be easier than you think!
