  1. Your grocery bill is very low so you spend the extra money on new clothes! You're appalled at the amount of food that people consume! Tictacs are your new "candy".
  2. At restaurants you get to order just an appetizer and it totally fills you up! You no longer want to go to a buffet because you can't eat your money's worth! Your foodie friends are a little irritated when you finish your meal way before them. You don't have to shop in the plus size stores! You can easily walk through the mall where the really cute clothes finally fit you! I could go on and on....

    Any More Sixties?

I'm 61 and I was sleeved about 7-months ago! I haven't felt this good in years! I walk, bend over, tie my shoes and have no concerns about fitting into restaurant booths! I LOVE not having to shop in the plus-size stores. Cloths are looking pretty good on me now, even though I have about 40-pounds to go to get to my goal. Good luck to you!

    Any More Sixties?

Mrsbarrykh, hang in there! It gets better. You are losing just fine, in my opinion. It's hard to get all of your protein and water in at first. I think we all struggled with that. I think we older people have a small disadvantage... Maybe we aren't as active as the younger ones ... but I can tell you this... I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER NOW! Even though I'm losing a little slower, I'm fitting into nicer clothes... No more plus sizes. When I start to miss certain foods, I have to remind myself that I feel healthier because of the small sacrifice. I'll be looking for you here! Keep up the good work!

    August 2013 Roll Call

I think I'm cheating too much. I've probably been having more carbs than I should. I'm not good at exercising, either. My doctor said the weight would be harder to lose now. Time to get serious again!

    August 2013 Roll Call

You are all doing so well! I have only lost 66-pounds since sleeved August 23td 2013! What's your secret? I've been stuck at this weight for about a month!
  7. Seems my insurance won't approve the surgery due to my surgeon being out of network! I have had to change my primary care physician and I have to wait until August 1st for an appointment to TRY to get a new referral. I was on the phone for hours trying to find a solution ... just about to give up the idea of surgery. I was getting cold feet anyway! Thinking maybe I should try dieting again!
  8. I thought I would drop in and update you all. I have lost from 252 pre-surgery to 195 today. I'm currently in a stall because of cookies and chocolate, I'm sure! I couldn't resist the after-Christmas bargain candy and cookie mix. I boxed it all up today and I'm either going to give it away or toss it! I'm a little tired of all this protein. I'm looking for new options. I'm tired of tuna, chicken, cottage cheese and can't tolerate beef at all! ANY SUGGESTIONS? On another subject, DATING. I've been single for years but I just met someone very interesting! It's so nice to look and feel so much better!

I'm 55 And Had My Sleeve Done On August 8

Hi. I'm Bonnie. I was sleeved August 23, 2013. Start weight 252 Current weight is 189. Goal ... 140 but would be happy with 160. I've been about 190-pounds for about 3 weeks. I hope that today's 189 will be the beginning of starting to lose again. I lost A LOT of hair but it has slowed way down. My hair seems to be very dry and I'm considering cutting a few inches off. I have to say that it's wonderful to be out of plus size clothes. I look at the 3X clothes in the store and I'm amazed that I was ever that big. I see people who are heavy and I wonder if I still look heavy. I used to see my reflexion in she glass doors when entering a store and I really thought that they made me look bigger. Now I know I WAS bigger because I don't see that chunky woman anymore. I know my progress is on the slow side. I can't seem to get myself to exercise. I've always been pretty lazy when it comes to exercise. I can eat just about anything except bread. That's good because I had a weakness for bread. I will have a bite sized candy from time to time. Love, love love tortilla chips so I try to stay away from them! Good luck everyone!

    Any More Sixties?

Hi, sixties! I thought I would take a few minutes to update. I was sleeved Aug 23, 2013. I have lost 58 pounds and I'm feeling pretty good. Sure is nice to get out of plus size clothes! Nice to be able to walk without getting winded and especially nice to tie my shoes! I must say I'm bored with my diet. I'm looking for some different high protein foods that will satisfy me. My weight is coming off much slower now. I'm cheating a little more now because I can tolerate most foods. Trying to get myself back on track... Need to purge my pantry again. I am especially fond of tortilla chips now and last Costco trip, I bought two big bags! I'm somewhat ashamed of that! Good luck to all of you.

    Drinking with Straws

Maybe they don't want you to use a straw because you drink faster that way?. I think I will drink more water if I can use a straw. I am almost five months out. I used a straw today that came with a protein shake and have had no ill effects. I will try again later with my water and see how it goes.

    Four-1/2 months post surgery

Regarding work, I'm retired so didn't have to deal with that! Also, a few days after my surgery, I had an intestinal blockage that had to be surgically repaired. The second surgery was not laparoscopic so took longer to recover. To compound things, I developed aspiration pneumonia because I aspirated during that emergency surgery. Even with all of those post-surgery complications, it was worth it because I can walk the whole length of the mall again! THE BEST THING IS I CAN SHOP FOR CLOTHES IN REGULAR SIZES!!!!

    Four-1/2 months post surgery

Absolutely! When I graduated to soft foods, I was a happy camper! I can eat just about anything now. Dense bread doesn't go down easily (and that's a good thing! Too fattening) but biscuits and tortilla chips are very easy to over-eat! I had sushi for the first time the other day. Three pieces and I was stuffed! Sure was good, though. I feel good but when I make bad food choices, I feel yucky. Good luck to you!

    August 23. Looking for support...

I was sleeved Aug 23rd. I feel like I'm losing slowly. I don't feel like I get enough to eat. I still have a hard time getting enough fluids. I'm 61. I don't really care about the stretch marks. The saggy skin worries me more. I feel so much better and that's the most important thing! I think I'm looking better in my clothes already and I'm looking forward to getting even thinner. Keep your chin up!

    AUGUST 22ND

I had a stall about the same time as you. Are you losing again? I'm losing 2-3 lbs a week I think. I've lost only 35 pounds in almost two months!
  16. I was craving dill pickles at about two weeks. I put some dill pickle relish in my tuna salad with some extra pickle juice and I really enjoyed it. No problems! We must need the acidity? I also miss beer and pizza! I look at food porn all the time... Cooking channel, cookbooks, magazines, recipe sites. I think I need to head back to the shrink because I still have major food obsessions.

    I'm not proud of this....but....

I'm four weeks out. I can't eat deli ham! Chicken is my salvation. I'm craving a mini cinnamon roll from my local donut shop. I just want one bite! I'm looking forward to real food. I want to see if I can tolerate one or two bites of a volcano sushi roll. I'll probably peel off some of the rice.
  18. Hi. I was sleeved on August 23rd. I feel pretty good now. I had a complication and had to go for emergency surgery 4 days after the sleeve. I think it's been more difficult for me than most! I aspirated during the second surgery and ended up with pneumonia. I'm just about over that! I'm on soft foods and have been enjoying tuna salad and deli chicken. Boiled eggs are ok but the thing that saved me is Premier Protein shakes from Sam's Club. That's the only way I get all of the protein I need plus it counts toward fluids. I've lost 28 pound so far since a week before surgery (when I went on the liquid diet). I hit a stall at 27 pounds for three days but today I had dropped another pound. I'm fitting into last years jeans, a size smaller! That made me happy! With all of the complications and the fact that I still want to eat more, I'm not sure if it was worth it but talk to me in a few months! If I continue to lose weight, I'll be happy!

    August Sleevers?

I was on August 23rd. Feeling good but found out today that I have pneumonia!
  20. Me! Friday I get to have tuna! I'm so excited! Yogurt and applesauce are my salvation now. I bought lots of different flavors. Like you, I'm sick of the shakes! Hate the strawberry but I'm forcing myself to drink them. They make me feel full.
  21. Surgery on Friday. Uneventful. I stayed an extra night to get past the nausea and get used to drinking water all day. I went home Sunday, pretty sore but ok. Monday felt ok. Not great. Started having cramps and assumed it was part of the process. Tuesday morning I was very sick. My daughter took me to the ER in Arlington. I assumed that I was just dehydrated but they did a CT scan eventually and by then the bile was coming up. Turned out I had an incarcerated hernia/obstruction. They transferred me to Dallas by ambulance for an emergency surgery. Got released Friday evening and am recovering nicely. Blood pressure is high an O2 is low but both are improving. I'm doing ok with water but protein is a challenge to get in. I'm using a c-pap all day and all night. Doing the breathing exercising. That makes me cough! But it brings O2 up. I'm looking forward to chicken, tuna and cottage cheese! Highest weight 252 Pre surgery weight 238 Today 245
  22. Thank you. I went to get my staples out today. My O2 sats remain in the high 80s ... Improving. Yesterday I went to see my pcp and she ordered a chest X-ray because she suspected aspiration pneumonia. Sure enough, while I was with my surgeon, they called me to go in to get a shot! I have pneumonia! I feel better, though and my blood pressure remains good! I'm looking forward to having some real food on Friday! Tuna salad or scrambled eggs! Sounds like heaven to me!

    Any More Sixties?

I just turned 61 yesterday and I'm scheduled for surgery August 23rd. I was worried about being too old but if I continue to gain weight, I'm headed for more health issues! I went through a few days of thinking about backing out. It's very scary!
