  1. When I went to get my Psych Evaluation, I mentioned to the Doctor that I've read on here (VST) many posters saying how the mental/emotional aspect hasn't caught up with the weight loss. His suggestion was to seek counseling. Go to the group meetings, get assistance with your mental/emotional part of this lifestyle change before its too overwhelming. This forum is helpful but a trained professional can help us all through the myriad of changes we all may/are facing. Good luck to all. What a wonderful life...

  3. I live in Crown Heights. I'm having my surgery at The Brooklyn Weight Loss Center at Brooklyn Hospital. Dr. Jun Levine. My blood work revealed I have H. pylori which is very nasty stomach bacteria that's hard to get rid of and can cause ulcers...I just got the triple therapy regimen and its 14 days. I have no idea how I contracted this bacteria but I hope it doesn't interfere with my surgery. I did the Pulmonary PST(sp.) test today and I have a bad chest cold filled with mucous...I hope I passed. The sleep study is scheduled for 7/20 & I'm on cloud mine. I love sleep. But I snore through two doors...so I'm told... The H. pylori has me worried...no symptoms...no nothing...pray for me. After the 14 day treatment I'm re-tested. Thinking about doing a detox...Dr. Schulz or somebody...after this treatment and prep as if I'm getting surgery in Aug. I can taste victory...small portions of it...but victory nonetheless! What a wonderful life...

I will certainly ask my PCP for referrals. Saw the Psychiatrist and he said I was cleared for surgery. I liked him & will probably come back just to have a biased ear on my adjustment after surgery. This group has been a Godsend. Prayers going up for July Sleevers! What a wonderful life...

Thanks everyone & welcome Jallen! I am still navigating these forums. I just figured out how to reply and quote...I am not so nervous now but Dr. Levine suggested that if diabetes is present then shed recommend the DS (looky me trying to shorten stuff up) Duodenal Switch because it gets rid of diabetes completely...I do not want that and she did state that its my decision & diabetes can be reversed with the Sleeve but will take a bit longer. I still want the sleeve. What a wonderful life...

I had my consult with Dr. Levine at Brooklyn Hospital. She was funny, informative, & supportive. Answered my questions and may have diagnosed me with Pre-Diabetes. I have a rash in both arms in the crease where they stick u for blood...I thought I was getting eczema but she said it may be a sign of sugar issues. Just started maybe 3-4months ago but eczema runs in my family soo...if so, this knocks me up to 3 obesity related issues. hBP, snoring/sleep apnea, pre-diabetes, and I also have plantar fasciitis which makes it hard to walk...I called my PCP and I see him on Monday...I love him and I hope he gives me the okay and support. Oh & I fasted today and the Bariatric nurse let me get blood work done & I attended a nutritional session with a dietitian...my insurance only requires 1 session...I do plan to go to the support meetings and see the dietitian again. Very informative and overall clean facility. All the docs I need are there except my PCP... Thanks for listening. What a wonderful life...

As for hair loss, I have thick natural hair and get it two-strand a lot. I would say I'd cut it short when I hit my goal weight. A whole new me...

I had two sleep tests done in the past when I was 200lbs and they said I woke up 20-30 times...just told me to lose weight. My GF's hate rooming with me on trips and my new bf makes comments about my snoring that is annoying....so I will mention that in my follow-up. So glad they're are people of color to relate to about this. Most people feel this is cheating and I know I've tried over the past 10yrs to lose weight and I've lost the same 35 and gain it back plus 30-40 more. I am happy with this choice. Thanks.

I am going for my first e ER consult with a surgeon. I am trying to grasp my head around this procedure. I want to know is it liquid foods for the first 6months? I'm in Brooklyn, NY and my pic is of me 30-45lbs less. I'm 5'6" at 275-280! High BP, snore badly, and suffered with heel spurs and plantar fasciitis which prevented me from walking. I finally got a cortisone shot 2wks ago and I can put my whole weight on my feet but I'm still nervous. My PCP is obese and whenever I spoke about prescribing FDA approved diet pills he refused. I'm concerned he won't okay my surgery. Can I start fresh with a new doc?
