  1. Im so grateful to have been able to have some great success with this surgery...my highest weight was 370 in October of 2012 i had surgery April 15th 2013 and today August 8th 2013 i stand 6'3 235lbs with no complications God is awesome and im letting anyone know that making this decision is a start at a new life!!!! :-)

Congratulations...God is one that moved the surgeon hands to perform and the surgeon mind for guidence.

  2. Choosing Insurance plans is like choosing between syphilis and gonorrhea. They all stink !! With my insurance I was caught between a rock and a hard place. I didn't have enough co-morbidities' date=' they require documentation of a 6 month diet, and I wasn't employed by the hospital for 24 consecutive months (another ridiculous requirement). Had I lost 20 pounds, my BMI would have been too low..... so I'm off to Mexico and paying cash.. HealthChoice and Orlando Health can just kiss my big fat healthy Butt. Having to wait another year and gain more weight would have made me a higher surgical risk. I guess they would have preferred I'd have had high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure and sleep apnea. Makes no sense.... maybe they hope you'll die before they have to approve a triple cardiac bypass. I'm a Nurse... they employ me to take care of their Patients. Their slogan is "Patient's First". You'd think they'd want their Nurses healthy and fit.... after all, we're supposed to be caregivers, teachers and role models. Health Insurance sucks.... and to think I have to prolong my retirement till I'm 65 to qualify for medicare. I wanted to retire at 62, but insurance and health care costs make that impossible. I feel like a hostage. Oh well..... thank God I've got the money to pay for my surgery, at least Orlando Health pays me well. Just one more rant, I promise... they also won't pay for cataract surgery till I'm too blind to read this post.[/quote']

Your last sentence was too funny..stay safe to your trip to mexico.

  3. It's so true

Things I have never though of before... A purse fitting on my arm better' date=' jewelry, tying my shoes & yes even wiping my rear end (sorry tmi) ?de09[/quote']

Believe me no tmi from me....you are not alone....today i was at my doctor's office..i couldn't get up from a couch. I had to rock a couple of times and finally i got up. I had to play it off.

  4. My surgery consultation is Oct 8..I'm excited but nervous. Yet..I'm in no hurry. I want to make sure my ducks are in a row. I've been walking every other day..bouncing to zumba on Wednesdays. I even went window shopping looking at smaller size outfits. Plus i look forward in watching my blood pressure and weight drop..I'm taking one day at a time. Our day will come.

  5. I have decided to keep it quiet until after the surgery. I think even well meaning people can be a little mean. what is funny to me' date=' is that over the past few months I have actually found out that a few people I've known for a while have had the surgery several years ago. They are incredibly healthy, happy people. It has come up in conversation naturally and each time I feel reassured that it's a great option. I have felt like it was a sign. :)[/quote']

    I know that's right.

  6. No giving up.

First things first - if you aren't doing so already' date=' start logging your food. That way you can look at your total calorie intake and also see your balance of Protein, carbs and fat to see if that is your issue. You may not be overeating in terms of absolute quantity, but the quality in terms of what we need to support weight loss may not be there.

What do your Southwest salads consist of? Depending on the ingredients, they can be fairly high in calories and carbs

For example, you say you eat lots of watermelon. While watermelon is nutritious in reasonable amounts, it's loaded with fruit sugars. You say you're eating brown rice and whole grain bread. Those are certainly better for us than white rice and white bread. However, moderation is the key. How much of these are you eating and how often?

What's your protein intake look like? Are you making sure to take care of your protein requirements first?

If you have access to a dietician who is knowledgeable about the dietary needs of bariatric patients, I would definitely make an appointment to see him or her to have your diet assessed.

    Good luck!

Thank you for the insightful information that I'll never forget. My first nutritionist appt starts tomorrow at 9am.

  7. One of the things you may have to realize is that people don't want you looking better than them...they don't understand what bigger people go through. I am 50' date=' I have high blood pressure, my joints hurt a lot, and my bmi is 48. I am only 5 foot 2 and my weight is 270. I am looking foreward to living like a normal person.[/quote']

I totally agree. I was in a conservation with two "slim" ladies and the subject was fashion. I had mentioned one day I will be getting into a designer's outfit and honey, the look of disbelief on their faces. It gave me more motivation to prepare for my surgery. Currently, I'm learning how to lift weights.

  8. A friend of mine of over 15 years is acting shady to me now too. She is against the surgery and is too scared to go through it herself. She's obese too and is afraid that she will be left all alone in the fight. Sorry but I have to do me.

This is dedicated to all of them:

Follow your heart and your spirit..it will never gear you in the wrong direction.

  9. I made the mistake of announcing on Facebook that I was having this procedure' date=' Lesson learned! Never again! I am "crazy" and Ive been lectured for weeks now about how I should "try Weight Watchers" or here's the best...wait for it...."just stop eating" hahahahhahahahahah I cant! what did you guys say when people tell you negative things about the sleeve procedure or weight loss surgery in general? my favorite thus far has been, "you don't have the will power, your going to over eat & be very sick the rest of your life"...nice right? thankfully my family is on board but friends & coworkers are brutal! ugh![/quote']

Don't feel bad...i joyously announced becoming a sleevers and one of my plus size friend called me traitor. Still mad at me.

  10. I'm starting my 90 day diet plan and see my nutritionist July 5. I have also practiced chewing my food and waiting 30 minutes after to drank my Water. The most crazy crave is Jello. My vision is to cross my legs, wear a pair of heels & a pair of snug fit jeans. Oh, and not hide in the kitchen nor behind the Piano during church activities.

One more...go to a water park and finally have some freaking FUN instead of prepping for the meals for everybody else!

  11. Never thought I would be so happy over a 3 lbs lost' date=' But I Am!!! I am getting so close to my goal I can taste it :)

I was going through pictures on my old computer and found some old pictures! Thank God I had the surgery[/quote']

I'm a newbie to the group and I'm proud of you. I'm just in the beginning stage. Pending month of my surgery October 2013. Need support and role model. Praise God on your success...
