  1. I could actually see my tubing poping out from under the skin and had to poke it back in! (it turned out the port had flipped) and I have had it redone 4 weeks ago! Now I can feel a large lump where the large incision is and can very much feel the port (anyone who touches it can)

  2. For me! I get these once a month on the day my period is due no matter what I eat or drink, yogurt has caused it for me before!! its only been since the band that I have ever experienced such a horrid pain! I have had every single test everything from xrays to ultrasounds to bloods! they even found gallstones and took my gallbladder out 5 weeks ago (low and behold I copped the pain again after the op!!!!) We are putting it down to Esophageal spasms! My doctor told me that everything swells up at this time and this could be causing the pain! (it starts faint accross the chest and then the back and can last from 15min to 48 hours (for me anyway) I burp alot and cant move!!! I have lost 40kg (80lbs) with the band in 12 months and have been banded for nearly a year had my port restitched cos it flipped recently! I know exactly what you are saying it is soooooo bad and can put me out for a few days! ( i copped it on my birthday and It buggered up my night out! ) and the doctors just seem to look at you like you are crazy!!Yesterday i got my bloods back and my magnessium was low which I was told by the doctor (the 3rd one Ive tried) that this can cause spasms as well so it is worth getting this checked! Im now on magnessium tablets and have yet to try the (blood pressure tablets which can be also used to control spasms)! Im waiting for one to come on to try the last resort and see f they work! My blood pressure is nomal but they apparently work by slowing the spasm down (im not a doctor but i have been begging for an answer!! i hope they work! good luck you are certainly not alon on this and I think a lot more testing with banded patients need to be done on the few of us that seem to get these rotten side effects!!! In saying al this I know in my heart that I would never of been able to loose this much weight on my own and I am still greatful for the band! Take care!:juggle::lol::lol:

  3. Hi everyone after chatting to you all on here for 3 years i finally have been banded. It took me a while to take the step but im very glad I did.

Just wondering if anyone had heart burn/intergestion. Im only 4 weeks out and its only at dinner time (about 2 hours later). I get my first fill in 2 weeks so Im hoping that it does not get worse. Other then that i love te band so far. My life has begun and Im feeling great. The first 2 weeks I was tired and sore i never thought id get there but here I am.

    Anyway feedback would be nice.

    BEENA:thumbup:

  4. I hear you I flaked out for about 4 days on the couch no energy and just wanted to sleep. The pain was bad and Im only 1 week out and im still really sore went and saw the doc and he said not to worry... I will be back next week if Im still feeling like this.. It bloody does hurt, ive had 2 c sections with an internal infection and I would have to say this was harder then them ...for me anyway.. Im sure one it settles i can move on and start losing more weight ( lost 16.5kg 36lbs) with both pre op and surgery.

  5. You have a different pre op diet then me Im on Optifast (3 shakes a day and 2 cups of veggies) it sux!!! but ive lost 9lbs in about 14 days I guess cos im not really eating anything else. and doing the gym. I decided the other day to have a grilled fish and the very next day put on 2lbs!!! I was like WHAT!!!! what more can i do, I am pretty much starving myself... Im just trying not to think about it. Good luck!!! We are all here for you Big hugs.... ( and some virtual cheese and crackers for you) LOL....

  6. Good on you well done going in on the 7th August from Melbourne! a little scared but would love to fit into an 18 but id need to loose at least 30kg before i get into an 18. I have a blog beenabeena.blogspot.com If there is anything you wish you were told pre surgery that you figured out afterwards id love to know.

Well done again. Great to hear, makes me feel less worried about if im doing the right thing or not.

  7. Hello all ,

congratulations to you all for either making a decision or just even trying to do something about it! As for me i have made 3 appointments and cancelled them because im scared of the unknown!

You will be happy to know i have finally woke up to myself and have got an appointment on feb 18th which i have every intention of attending! For all you who are banded what should i ask the Doctor that you feel you should of asked but never did! and now know from getting the band?

Iam scared because I dont want to fail like all the other diets ive tried and and I know "its a tool", I know I have to work with it and i know its a life style change and I know i need to make the effort! but lets face it im not this big because I want to be!!! What has made this different from everything else you guys have tried?

My main motivation is Im 28 and will soon be 29 and then 30! and thats where I draw the line !!! Ive gone through childhood, my teens and my 20s and no no no !!! Its not gonna happen Well If I Can help it ...not my 30s!!

So thank you for your support over the last 6 months its been a decision in progress which i believe i have finally made!

So any suggestions on qusetions to ask the Doctor and the comparison to other things tried feel free!!!

    CHEERS

    Beena:rolleyes2:;):rolleyes2::eek::rolleyes2:

  8. Well where do i start im a young mum ( or mom for everyone else)

Never have time for myself and have always been big!!! I spend the first half of the year dieting and the second part putting it all back on!!! cant be good!!

I figured i will soon be 30(next year) and well Im just not prepared to spend my 30s this big! I have a good 150lbs which is about 60kg to loose and I have every intention of doing it.

I have made and cancelled 3 appointments because it is such a dastic step for me but its something that needs to be done and a I know in my heart that it will be the right thing to do! Im worried that I will fail! just like all the other diets ive ever been on but this is a lifestyle change and just a tool I need to get my head around it all!

I have an appointment that im actually looking forward to on the 18th feb08 and if any bandsters out there have any suggestions on what to ask on your first visit that would be really great.

Well wishing you all the very best of luck on your journeys well done for doing what is right for you!

And to " banded and feeling great " well done mate all the best to you as well

    Cheers:cool2:

  9. Im not sure what you mean by the seminar not being "well reaserched" On my part I had called the office and asked 10000 questions about the seminar. On their part No they did not do a very good job holding and reaserching the appropriate information needed for future patients. I dont care how many obese people there are in the world! I just wanted to know how the band works and how it will work for me. Thank you for the offer its nice to know that there are great people on this site that are willing to answer questions if they are silly or not! As for me I will do this eventually just not right now. I really dont feel as though im in the right state of mind as of yet. Ive recently had a baby so Im concentrating on being a mother of 2 kids under the age of 3 at the moment, keeping in mind that it will be my turn to shine in the year 2008. A new year with new challenges and new goals. So I truly thank you for being there with me through this rollar coaster of challenges I face. I will definatley be asking questions along the way. thanks

  10. Went t a seminar held in Essendon (Victoria) was a little put off by the way they generalised! The psychologist basically said that all overweight peple are depressed, housebound and unsocial. I was really mad!!! I might be big but im not unsocial have plenty of friends and am certainly not housebound. Yeah sure sometimes I get depressed by the way I look but Im not to the point where I just cant live!!! I then called the surgeon and cancelled my appointment!!! The Doctor I choose had nothing to do with the seminar so i will still go with him when the time is right I need to do alot more soul searching first

  11. I am opting for the band because the other is so final and invasive. ive heard the weight does come off quicker with the bypass not sure if thats true! but if it is as long as the weight comes off by working together with the band then who cares!! Its up to you at the end of the day! Ive got 150lbs to get rid of and as far as i can work out it should take me beween 1 to 2 years if i work with the band by getting most out of it! I mean by doing all the right things to achieve my goal. I have such a long journey and Im sure there will be good and bad days!!! but from what i can understand from talking to these guys that have already been banded a journey worth taking. My advice to u :)is jump on the chat room and ask as many questions as you can everyone is great and seem really happy to help.:) all the best

  12. Hey nice to see another Aussie here! Welcome! Im at pretty much the same stage as you Im going to a seminar on the 15th August. Im from Melbourne! these guys are great and so very helpful.

As for me Im a 28 year old female and need to do something about my situation fast. From what i have read and learnt from just chatting to everyone on here, this also seems the best option for me! Its a tool Ive been told 10000000000 times a tool that will only help and the rest of it is up to you, but i think its is a tool that will work for people like myself who has no idea what a small portion size is:lol: Anyway if you enter the chat room they are great and very helpful.

All the best with what ever you decide to do.:)

  13. Magic i havnt had the band but will not judge you either way, and really no one should! Obviously the concern is your health and what might happen if you eat too much with the band. I first would go see my doctor. :paranoid We have all had or are considering to have the band for a reason and that reason is to loose the weight whether its for health reasons or self of steam you might need to really get in touch with yourself and workout why you got it in the first place. From what i have read its not a magic tool that fixes everything i guess that is why im taking so long to decide if this is the right option for me!. What i plan to do is get the band and then go on a controlled shake diet. Im not sure where you are from but we have a local phamisist that promotes the tony ferguson diet and has dietitions weigh you each week. Even if you can maybe go on weight watchers like someone had already suggested. Mate like i said im not here to judge just help Im no expert and not banded so might be out of place here but im just telling you what i plan to do. After all its such a drastic measure to take, any surgury is, we may as well get the most out of it. My problem is bordem eating! so i plan to take up a hobby to keep me busy as well. Once Ive covered all my floors and loopholes I m hoping i will be ok.

GOOD LUCK to you !! ALL THE BEST:)

  14. hey mark not yet banded but hopeful going to surgeon on the 16 august Just wondering if you were put on a waiting list I have private HI but wasnt sure if still needed to be on a list!! You have done so well Im 126kg so even more then you were when you started Need to get this fat off!!! and soon!!! anyway nice to see another Aussie on here you should join in on the chat room there is never anyone but me from Australia on there.

  15. Appology accepted!!! I think i can learn from you and others as long as the dumb questions that I ask are also accepted. Its a scary process that I guess we all go through at some point "to band or not to band" so those of us in this stage need to know as much as we can. Sometimes the infomation is scrambled cos some can eat certain things and some cant it gets a little confusing at times. It wasnt just you I was refering to but i really appreciate your nice appology I hope in future I can learn from your experiences with the band.:grouphug:
