  1. I don't have a weight loss goal before surgery either. The 14 day pre-op is to make sure you've reduced the glycogen in your liver so that it is as small as possible because it sits above the stomach. At least that is how the doctor explained to me.

In additon, I was told to make sure I am careful with my weight not for the surgery but because of my BMI. Since my BMI was under 50, but only by 2 points, gaining weight will put me at 50 or above and that would require I have the pulmonary tests and that could set my surgery back a month or two, until I under went those tests. . Not sure if anyone else falls in this same category, but becareful, just in case.

my BMI is over 50, but my doctor isn't having me do any pulmonary tests. Then it seems every doctor is different.

  2. I'm new to this blog. I am finally going to be getting the surgery. The paperwork too so long and now I got my approval from the insurance and on Monday I go in and neet eith the surgeon again. Then Wednesday I meet fir pre-op stuff and start my 2 week liquid diet. Boy idk if I can do 2 weeks on straight liquids. Scared of failure but excited for the start of a new life. I'm 31 yrs old weight as of last week was 317 (biggest yet) I can't wait to back down to 150-160ish. I'm so glad there is a support group of people going through the same thing. I've never had surgery before and so scared something bad is going to happen. Oh ya my surgery date is December 4th 2013. I wish everyone the best of luck in there journey :-)

Welcome to the group, I understand being scared, I've never had surgery either, but everything is going to turn out great. Congratulations

  3. I called my insurance yesterday and I'm approved, yeah!! exited and scared as I have not had any surgery of any kind, the most extensive thing I've had done was a pulled tooth. So I spoke with my doctors office and my date is going to be either 12/13 or 12/30, she's going to call me back after taking to the doctor. :D

  4. So I had my last NUT appointment until after surgery, she gave me all my pr-op and post of diet dos and don'ts. So once my date is official and I start my pre op diet I get to have 5-6 Protein Shakes per day depending on the brand I choose along with sugar-free Gelatin and popsicles and broth. I also can have Water, tea and coffee w/o sugar. My doctor said it will be 2-3 weeks long. I'm hoping if my date is the 16th that I don't have to start before thanks giving. What I find strange is that my doctor is having me do a 2 week clear liquid diet after surgery with no Protein shakes just diluted juice, regular Jello, popsicles and broth which I find strange.
