Surgeon trying to talk me into band.

better to travel once for a sleeve than two or three times to get it revised.

    NO NO

I am doing what you do. my downfall is chewing, if i can focus on chewing well, my body is fine, if i chew almost well enough, i feel it. so far this has been the biggest challenge, chew and go slow.

how do I lower my CO2 level?

a serious commitment to good strong cardio workouts to increase your aerobic capacity will significantly increase your body's ability to process CO2 but it would take workouts 5 times a week for a month or more to make a noticeable difference. however the exercise is good for you anyways.

    NSV shout outs

I was working on my daughters CRV in the garage and did not mean to park it so close to the garage door frame. I saw the space and first I walked around the other side, then without thinking i walked through the space that was clearly much too narrow for me without greasing my self up and getting two people to push me through it. However, i walked so easily through the gap that i only realized later that i had done it. Wow. I fit in narrow spots--go figure.
  5. because of difficulty taking my usual regimen of colace and metamucil at first after my surgery and being on a liquid diet, i ended up getting in trouble and my constipation flared up my 'rhoids. Solution: this is an amazing combination that resolves them quickly if you can stick to it. 1. prepartion h with hydrocortisone twice a day, it soothes those inflamed tissues almost immediately. 2. Sitz baths with very warm Water, but dont burn your backside! for about 15 minutes. the relief is dramatic as well as the healing. 3. a donut to sit on, 100% of the time for a day or so. For those that are having trouble. I wish i had known about this twenty years ago when i first got it trouble. Hope it helps

    Egg Salad--yum

this is not about a new egg salad recipe, but that i just graduated to eating egg salad and it was better than ever and i enjoyed every bit of the tiny portion i could have. i have figured out that despite the perceived slowness of my eating i am still going much too fast and the sleeve is protesting so i am timing my tiny bites. tuna salad is next! then perhaps chicken salad. Does anyone eat peanut butter in the pureed stage? i am tempted but it is so thick that i am not sure. i thought of warming it up so it would be a bit runnier.

    Prednisone

I had been on Prednisone for years but managed to get off for the surgery. my doctor said the sleeve would heal faster. I am struggling off the med with muscle pains but hope to stay off for another week. I was lucky that my mood gets better on prednisone, i am just happier--go figure. and it does not generaly hold fluids at the low doses i was on. Good luck.

Surgeon trying to talk me into band.

definitely get another opinion. from my research loosing 'too much' weight is not the primary issue with the sleeve. I have had patients whose surgeons tried to talk them into simpler operations, i talked with the surgeons and could not figure out their motivation. perhaps the lack of leaks? but the failure rate for the band is much higher and besides it does not address the hunger issue as well as the sleeve or bypass does.

    Egg Salad--yum

i presume that is the point of the surgery. i try to savor each tiny morsel.
  10. my NUT and doc did not have trouble letting me try right away and it was not so bad. even moderate sized capsules, although seriously one at a time and spaced apart! the small tiny pills I can take two at a time. the hardest for me are the metamucil caps which need to have lots of fluid with them, but within five minutes the full feeling in my stomach passes.

    NSV shout outs

It seems everytime i touch a different part of my body it feels alien. my collar bones, my neck while shaving, my shoulders, they all have loose skin and bony protrusions. wow.

    depression, big time

All of the sudden i feel so down and depressed. just have little energy to do anything. i have fought depression all my life and have come up with a myriad of habits to fight it, in addition to being on medication. i forced myself to go on a walk and that helped, then i read for a while, tried to enjoy eating one of my first pureed meals, and i did. i wasnt all that upset about how little there was either. i slept well but now i just feel like laying down and waiting for time to go to work. I cannot even focus on the plans for my vacation. they seem pointless. Nothing seems interesting. it doesnt help that my legs ache. i may have to resort to taking celebrex again. I feel like I need a jumpstart. I felt it begin last night but mildly, now it is of moderate strength and i need to deal with it before it builds like it did the last two winters.

    depression, big time

thanks for the support. i am coming to realize how much i used food to help my mood. now i have to work it out differently.

    I told my Mom today

i am not looking forward to mentioning this to my mom. She lives in San Antonio so there is no urgency since she wont be seeing me for months. yet the contrast should be rather dramatic by that time. alas such is life. My tolerance for unnecesary drama is so low now that the persistent questioning would drive me crazy
  15. My nut told me that the data was not clear and not only could I drink coffee but regular coffee. Well, knowing that cafeine is a diuretic i was on decaf until i was sure i could get well over 64oz of fluid in without trouble, then i went to half caf. i did well for 11 days but the last two as soon as I have a half cup i feel full and very fatigued. I am presuming it is trigering reflux. so i would say that you could try decaf and see how you do but be careful with the cafeine at first. also the temperature can be hard, i drank it a bit cooler than i preferred

    Excercise while on liquids

No problems pre-op, now post op is a different thing altogether. i have already pushed it too far twice in 10 days, because i love to exercise and i felt so good ( not so good an hour later though)

    Awwww Come On !

regarding the pain. unfortunately like people above that is not a criteria that you can shop for, for it is not always about the doctor. in my case my doctor had one case before me, a very nice lady we were half an hour apart but our experiences could not have been more different, she bounced on her feet and felt great, I had lots of bloating and pain for a while. Same surgeon, same time, same place. But they manage the pain so no worries.

    i have no idea

who are these people? seems like a very loose organization. i agree be proactive and best of luck.

    day 11 update

So i am into double digits post op and overall i can say the surgery was a roaring success! I have not felt any complaints from my stomach in days, either inside or on the surface. I am still not hungry and schedule my shakes and liquids. it remains a novel experience not to feel hunger and certainly not to think of what i am eating or not eating. More than strange it is totally alien. I have lost 55 pounds since i made the first call to schedule an appointment with the doctor. I am at my lowest weight in six years and close to my record in decades ( 9 pounds). I had decided not to weight myself so i would not see any stalls but it has turned out to be much harder than i anticipated. I went through alot to get this done and not to look for the fruits of the effort is very difficult. And as long as each day the news is good it gets harder not to keep looking. I am determined however to stop once this initial honeymoon phase is over. Then i am aiming for a monthly weigh in but doubt i will make it that long. I am also worried that as soon as i start eating food again it will trigger the old standby desire to eat too much. I have been able to eat greek yogurt slowly but when i tried applesauce it felt different, fuller and uncomfortable. Also the appleasauce was not particularly tasty, had no sweetness. so i will add some equal to it or leave it alone. sometime soon i will try pureed food. i am not feeling in a hurry at this moment. I have chosen my first meal. New England Clam Chowder, nice and pureed. perhaps 1/4 cup. I made pudding yesterday and forgot to try it! how is that ever possible? even when i thought of it, i felt too full to taste it. I wonder how long before I am out of risk for a leak?

    Always being a 'big guy'

I have never viewed being a big guy as a positive thing. it has been in my way all my life, even when i was relatively fit and could run marathons it was so much harder because i was carrying so much more weight. now it is a bane to my knees. my issue is i cannot for the life of me imagine myself as any other way. I have already lost half my excess weight and feel better but the concept of being medium sized does not register and actually i dont believe it can happen. we shall see how my mind gets around these changes. alex
  21. aliekat55

    I can see the changes!

great job on achieving the change but also on seeing it. i find it difficult to see any changes in me.

    NSV shout outs

I am on day 9 post op and there have already been many changes but when i dressed for work a few minutes ago i realized my belt is running out of holes! that doesnt happen, at least not to me. i am on the last hole and at the rate things are going i need to find a hole puncher ( or i suppose i rate a new belt )

Second week post op and into the third

Very impressive. something for me to strive for, when I run into the same situation. You go girl!
  24. aliekat55

    post op blurry vision

i had this for about five days post op. I think it is related to either the anesthesia or the narcotics although my last narcotic was on day 2. it went away on day 7

    Broth sucks, just sayin'

I find it is a change from the sweet cold protein. But only if it is very hot and very salty. unfortunately no protein just a taste change. i experiment with adding pepper too.
