  1. For my sleeve surgery, there was nothing but a consult with the anesthesiologist about 40 minutes prior to surgery. More recently, for a simple out-patient procedure, the anesthesiologist checked the size of my mouth/throat a few days before the procedure, but then rescheduled me & sent me to the hospital because it turns out that I'm hard to intubate - she said it wouldn't be appropriate for me to have surgery at a small surgery center that didn't have a full anesthesia department. This was the first time I'd ever heard about being difficult to intubate (4 prior surgeries!) but I'm glad I found out before there were troubles during a simple knee procedure, you know? Anyway, I hope this is helpful!
  2. Incredible! Huge congrats!
  3. Major congratulations! Awesome work
  4. Wow, amazing! and congrats! Best of luck on healing, etc. - looks like the results are just great. I just can't wait til this is me
  5. I weigh daily when I get up. Also, I'm still using WW for accountability (part of my work's health management program requirement), so on Fridays my weigh in gets entered into my WW Online account. I've been doing this for over 4 years now and it seems to work for me. Plus, I love having 4+ years of records of my weight - makes it fun these days to look back and see my struggles and then see all the positives after surgery.
  6. Great work! I'm working through my closets too and have amassed a huge stack of outfits to donate.
  7. Very inspirational - thanks for coming back and posting!
  8. Best of luck tomorrow to those of you having surgery -- you will love being on the loser's bench The first week is a bit rough but after that it gets easier and easier! Keep us posted!
  9. Amazing, inspirational journey! Congrats!
  10. One thing that I used that hasn't been mentioned yet is one of those plug-in mug warmers. It was slow going to drink broth the first 2 weeks, so I would use the mug warmer so that I didn't have to keep going to the kitchen to use the microwave, and the broth tastes much better warm/hot. After the liquids stage I didn't use it anymore, so I passed it to a friend who's having surgery soon. Good luck!
  11. Wow, congratulations! Someday I will be there and I just can't wait. Next thing you know, you'll be hitting that goal weight!!!!
  12. I always say that we should take our victories where we find them! Major congrats on the milestone (and sorry you were sick) -- Enjoy your victory!
  13. Inspirational! Major Congrats!
  14. Hi Shells. ... Tried to pm you but keep getting an error message. What was your longest stall? I'm 2 months post op and have only lost 30 lbs? I feel like I'm not going to lose anymore? Sorry I just saw this message and PM'd you. I know the feeling, it's so frustrating. We have to hang in there!!!
  15. From what I've read on this site, the restriction does really loosen up after a while. I'm a few months out and can eat quite a bit compared to those early weeks where 2 or 3 bites and I thought I was going to hurl. It's both good and bad to be able to eat so much more now!
  16. I love your chart, as it's very realistic - the slow down is real, BUT we keep losing! It can be so easy to stall out and lose motivation. Thanks for sharing!
  17. I have kept my surgery a secret from almost everyone, and I'm glad I did. I've mentioned this in other posts - those who know are the only ones who comment about my clothes, my weight loss, and feel ok to criticize what I have on my plate. It gets really annoying. Everyone else is thankfully oblivious. My surgery was the best decision for ME that I've ever made, and it's no one else's business. My attitude has been that it's my personal business and only those who I actually want to know are allowed to know. I say the above with conviction, because it was the right way to go for me - but each person has to make his/her own decision about this, and come to terms with our feelings when we realize we are lying by omission. Personally I'm ok with that to preserve my privacy. But that's just one person's take on the situation.
  18. Congrats! It's going to be great -- you will wake up to your new journey. Good luck
  19. I just did my taxes and did the math for my surgery - everything (except shakes and vitamins) cost $2800 out of pocket - insurance covered all the rest. Not too bad for the best decision I've ever made!
  20. I had some wine at 4 weeks out - it was my birthday - and the nutritionist said it was fine. I drank very little because I wasn't sure how it would affect me. Now that I'm at 5 months post-op, I have wine occasionally - only half pours if I'm tasting, which I don't finish, or 2 or 3 sips if I splurge and order an actual glass. With the very tiny amounts I'm having, I am not experiencing any negative effects - it doesn't make me tipsy or anything, but I still weigh a lot with many more pounds still to lose. Before surgery I was a social drinker and mimosas were my absolute favorite - I miss them so much! My friends and I did a lot of wine tasting and I have 3 wine racks because I used to keep so much wine on hand. The racks are a little sad now, I think I have 1 bottle still left from last summer. But I'd rather lose weight than keep drinking, so it's all about perspective.
