Almost 14 months out: Trip to the DMV

Wow, congrats! This is an amazing accomplishment and you should be proud!
  3. Congrats! I also lurked on this site for a few months before joining. I joined on the day of my first official visit to my weight loss surgery clinic. I just had surgery this past Monday. Soon this will be you as well. This is such a great community!

September Sleevers...! Come on in and chat!

I'm on day 3 post op. (surgery on Monday) I've been coughing up mucous as well, clearing out my lungs. It does hurt to cough but I want that junk out of there. My surgery went well and my recovery has been decent so far. I have one incision that's killing me but the others are fine. Today my goal is 40 oz protein and at least 36 oz water. I'm having trouble sleeping but everything else seems to be on track. We'll see if with the extra waking hours I can reach my goals! Good luck to everyone at this early post-op stage, it only gets better

    Nausea and me

Hang in there! I hope it all gets better soon. I was feeling some nausea from drinks that were too warm, so I switched to cold and was able to get by. Other people have the exact opposite - warm is good but they can't tolerate the cold drinks. So, maybe trying different temps could help. Good luck - definitely go see the doc if this continues.

    Surgery today!

It gets a bit "too real" while you wait, but keep your goals in mind. Despite the worry before surgery, once the ball starts rolling it's over before you know it and you're on the next step to recovery and the new you! Best of luck!

    One week post Op

Congrats! I'm home now and do have a friend helping me - mainly the pain of using my stomach muscles for standing and/or sitting. Other than that, I feel pretty good too, which is awesome.

    Awake and Alive! :)

Today was the day. Surgery at 10:00 am. and apparently all went well. Now I'm sipping a Protein drink and liquid Tylenol alternately. I hope all my 9/16 sleeve buddies are doing great!

    Secret Sleevers?

I kept mine a secret. Work friends all think I'm on vacation. Exactly 9 people know that I had surgery. That's actually 2 more than I intended but I'm ok with it. Good luck to you!

    Im officially sleeved!

Me, too! Great job and congrats to us!
  13. I made it through on the 16th. Definitely hurts to take any kind of deep breath! Using the spirometer thing is not easy. Otherwise all is ok.

    Well, I did it

Congrats! I was sleeved at 10:00 yesterday and others than incision soreness I am doing well. I had a narcotic thru my IV at 10pm last night but no heavy drugs since then - just liquid Tylenol. I want to stay off the heavy stuff so I can know what the pain will be like at home. I feel lucky today! It all went pretty good, and I don't feel horrible yet the next 4 days will still be a challenge. Good luck to you!

    Awake and Alive! :)

I am lucky so far - no gas pains except in my stomach. There are 2 other patients here in short stay who we're sleeved yesterday by my doc. I guess they have gas pains like mad. I feel for them, and you! No idea how I drew the lucky straw on that one! And wow, a s/f Popsicle sounds so good right now! I have cottonmouth like crazy.

    Liquid Diet Menu?

My doc has a 1-day pre-op liquid diet only. I did it on Sunday. I give major props to those who do it for 2 full weeks because it was such a rough day! It was just so boring, and it really made me realize how often I turn to food out of boredom.

    Awake and Alive! :)

Thanks! It's like 3am and things are going well, although I'm dozing more than sleeping. Can't wait to home to be comfy and really start recovering.
  18. I leave for the hospital in about an hour. Have to drive myself there, but I think I am ready. Good luck today to all September 16th people!!!!
  19. Good luck today, fellow sleever! I got very little sleep last night as well, and I really want a huge drink of water right now
  20. So my surgery is Monday at 10:00 a.m. I have read the posts here and listened to my doctor, PA and the nurses at the hospital and have compiled what I'm bringing. Do I have everything I need? Note: I will have a private room, so no need for earplugs. I will use two gowns, so I am not bringing a robe. I don't want to bring any extra electronics, so I'll rely on my phone if I need internet, etc. My current list: 1. Evil CPAP machine per doctor's orders 2. Gas X strips and liquid drops 3. Biotene for dry mouth 4. Medicine (that I already have) for possible Thrush 5. Toothbrush/paste 6. Vaseline/lip stuff 7. Cell phone and charger 8. Extra underwear (saw this on the suggestions list) 9. Small bottle of Purell 10 .Wet wipes (travel pack) 11. Squishy pillow for my tummy 12. Panty liners (just in case) 13. Mascara etc so I don't look completely grotesque when leaving the hospital. Don't want to scare the children. 14. A pair of contacts for when I leave the hospital (no contacts during surgery of course) 15. My friend -- very important! She will hang onto my stuff and text my mom, etc. 16. Cash for my friend to go fill my prescriptions while I'm in recovery Hmmm - anything else? I'll wear the same outfit going in and leaving - very loose and non-constricting on the tummy. No bra (sorry, world), so double tank tops to hold the girls a bit. What else should I bring??? I have one more day to stock up and pack my duffel bag! Thanks for any advice!

When can I sleep on my stomach again?

I have been wondering this as well!

    protein and water

Have you checked with your doctor? When I met with the PA last week (my surgery isn't until tomorrow ) she mentioned doing all I could but to not stress if in the first few weeks I can't get the numbers. I know the key is to not get dehydrated and sent to the hospital for IV fluids. Oh also, a quick note that I read about the various Protein shots out there - they are not whey protein. I don't really understand whey vs. other protein, but most of the shots seem to be made from collagen protein, not whey. I tried the Sunkist ones - sorry to say they tasted terrible (and are made from collagen), so it's great if the Protica ones aren't as bad, but I suggest checking with your doctor if it's ok to have protein that's not a medical-grade whey.

Surgery Is Monday - Do I Have What I Need?

I just went and bought one - my mom was bringing one for after surgery but I decided to grab one for the hospital as well. Thanks!

Surgery Is Monday - Do I Have What I Need?

Thanks for the great advice. I just had a hiccup in my great plan of getting a ride to the hospital, which is stressing me out a bit, but I feel really calm about the surgery itself!
