    Halloween Weight loss Challenge

I'm in. Maybe this will help kickstart consistent exercising. CW: 216 GW: 199. Onederland! Height: 5'4'' HW: 256 SW: 227 CW: 216
  2. I gained 11lbs with the swelling, which I was kind of expecting. I was not expecting it to take a full week for it to come back off though. I was so happy when I woke up on day 7 and finally saw the scale read 1lb below my surgery weight.
  3. Your emotions will probably be all over the place for a while. It does not get any easier immediately post-op. But, a few weeks of crazy for a lifetime of healthy seems worth it to me: )

    Day 3 mushy

Mine is 3 days clear liquid, 3 days full liquids, 3 days purée/soft, then a bajilion days soft.
  5. Having a total meltdown in my kitchen. I'm 1 week post-op and today's the 1st day of puréed/soft food under my plan. I've been looking forward to my 2 tbsp of mashed potatoes for days. Days! And now I can't find the dry potato flakes in the pantry. We bought them before surgery, so I know they were here. And my wife doesn't like instant potato so she didn't eat them. But- she decided to take advantage of my weird eating after surgery to go back to eating vegan - which she's been wanting to do for a whole and I have no interest in. She cleaned out the pantry the day before my surgery. Now I'm sitting here in tears, blaming her and crying and throwing random boxes on the floor like a toddler. Crazy hormones suck. No wonder divorce rates are so high.

    Meltdown

I ended up with a few tears and a tbsp of humus : ) And I know mashed potatoes aren't the best, but figured adding nutritional yeast and unflavored Protein powder would help. Thanks for letting me vent : ). Any way to help even out some of these crazy mood swings?

    September 2013 Sleevers :)

Sleeved 9/3. Finally feeling human again. Was released from the hospital today(again) after being readmitted for dehydration. New pain and nausea meds made a world of difference. If your suffering at home, don't be afraid to pester the doc and maybe even go back in if you need too. Your health is worth it.
  9. I was sleeved 9/3. Didn't get off to a great start in the hospital, which I attribute to not getting pain meds on a regular basis. Was doing well enough to be discharged Thursday evening. At the time of discharge I was up to drinking 3.5oz per hour. My surgeon's plan had me gradually increasing to 8oz/hour by the end if that day. After getting home, everything slowly went down hill. I was stuck taking roxicet for pain instead of Lortab, because I had an allergy to liquid lortab. Roxicet seems very hard on my new tummy. That + nausea not controlled by the zofran led to less liquid intake and more misery. Throwing up recently postop does not feel good. I don't recommend it to anybody. Eventually got a new script for phenergran suppositories which yielded great sleep, but even less liquid intake. Ended up back in the hospital today. It's amazing how crappy dehydration can make you feel. After a couple of bags of fluids in the ER I was beginning to 2nd guess needing to be there. Luckily my wife doesn't have such a short term memory- and insisted that I be admitted. So, now I'm chilling out in the hospital for another day or 2. But, I'm hydrated and feeling much better. And, I get to focus on increasing my liquids by mouth, while getting all my drugs through an IV.
  10. I'm 2 days out as well. I can get in 1 ounce an hour just fine, but I'm supposed to be ramping up my intake by adding an ounce each hour. Anything over 1 1/2 ounces an hour and I get super nauseous. Hope this goes away soon. Kinda tired of being in the hospital.

    September 2013 Sleevers :)

Surgery was 9/3 at about 2:30 pm. The first night was kind of rough. I think mostly because I only got pain meds upon request. If I had them on a regular interval, it probably would have stayed at a more tolerable level. Even so, the pain was mostly from the gas. The incisions are tender and my entire abdomen is black and blue and sore, but not super painful. Yesterday I was able to start clear liquids around noon. Walked and sipped all day. Things were pretty good until I switched from iv morphine to liquid Lortab. I've had tablet Lortab many times and never had it in liquid form - turns out I'm allergic. We've got that all straightened out and I should be heading home this afternoon.
  12. I did that today. Not nearly as bad as I expected. Of course I started the magnesium citrate at noon, so eating wasn't all that appealing. All I could get down today was 1 clear protein shake, a bowl of broth, and a sf popsicle. You'll get through. It's just one more sign the surgery is right around the corner : )

    September 2013 Sleevers :)

By this time tomorrow, I'll be a post-op-er. Eek. So excited.

    Magnesium citrate

I have to do 1 bottle. 1/2 at noon and 1/2 at 4pm. I held my nose and chugged it. Then rinsed my mouth and brushed my teeth. Pretty much the last hurdle, surgery is tomorrow : )

    ATL SLEEVERS?

I'm in midtown. Having surgery 9/3 with Dr. Lin at Emory Midtown.
  17. I started my liquid diet today too. So glad it's only for a week. My pre-op appointment with Anesthesia is on Friday. Crazy nervous that something will come up during the appointment and cause my surgery to be delayed. Sept. 3rd is right around the corner. It's starting to feel like this is really going to happen.
  18. It all depends on your particular insurance plan. Give them a call and they'll tell you your exact requirements.
  19. If you work in a highly physical job, how long did you stay out of work following surgery? How long until you were able to perform "normally". I have a very physically demanding job working in a food manufacturing plant. - 12 hr swing shifts, dumping 50lb bags of ingredients (up to 1600lbs at a time), climbing lots of stairs and ladders, doing maintenance, and working in consistently hot temperatures (85 degrees+). I'm especially concerned about the heat/ potential for dehydration. I have short term and long term disability available as well as several weeks of light duty when I do return to work. I'm just need to give my manager a rough idea if how long I'll be out. I'm guessing about 6 weeks, but is love to hear your experience. Surgery will be 9/3. Almost there : )
  20. Butterthebean- did you have any problems with dehydration? Right now, my work day liquid consumption is around 200oz per day. Operating on less than 1/2 of that just has me worried. My insurance required pre-op diet ended up taking 9 months instead of 6. It was extremely frustrating, but right now I'm counting it as a blessing. Returning to work in Oct/Nov will be much easier than returning in the middle of summer.
  21. I've been lurking for a while, but decided I should post since its official now. Surgery is scheduled for Sept. 3rd!
  22. I'm September 3rd as well. Was kind of bummed that I didn't get an August date, but since I've been working towards this since July 2012, an extra week won't kill me : )
