What Were Your Thanksgiving Triumphs and Tribulations?
swimbikerun replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Food and Nutrition
Mine was doing things around the house and outside to make up for anything I may have over ate. I was already preparing the days before so that I ate better. More veggies in the house. On Friday I was back to wraps and tons of veggies in there. Now I'm working on doing more things in the house, did a little more than a mile in the pool today (no one opened until today) and tomorrow will be swimming, weights, and the last bit of grouting on the bathroom wall before glazing. -
That is not something you drop. You keep asking and documenting it.

Do You Use Alcohol after Weight Loss Surgery?
swimbikerun replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Food and Nutrition
Absolutely! I never bought imitation baking extracts and I don't intend to start now. That goes for pie crusts too. PS For those of you who don't know, real extracts (vanilla, etc.) are normally 35% alcohol (or more if you make your own). Pie crusts are made with VODKA. Williams Sonoma teaches that for an excellent (chemical reaction) reason. -
Yep surgery and after was easier thanks to being in decent shape before.

"How much protein...?" SparkPeople.com article
swimbikerun replied to WLSResources/ClothingExch's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
When it concerns bariatrics here is my questions (that never got answered by any medical professional): After surgery why aren't recommendations for Protein based on that persons' gender, age and weight? When I've read serious discussions on the subject, it is always divided in those 3 plus exercise. Why is there the lifetime requirement of 60 grams? It should be MORE after surgery, and then go down when you are not healing. What about the concerns of higher bowel cancer rates from too much protein? I've seen one medical research paper that said less protein and more fiber is needed. Professionals push a lot of protein but not fiber also. Beans for example are good but get 'demonized' due to calories. They give you fiber you need, especially getting older, for a healthy intestinal track. I think they really need to get off the 60 grams for every person and come up with a formula for the first X months (1, 3 6, 9, 12, whatever) after surgery, and then base it on what you do. If you are more active, adjust for that. We should not be making a blanket "gram" statement when people are different. -
Post-Election Worries: Thanksgiving Recipes!
swimbikerun replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Food and Nutrition
I choose to have all veggies and a turkey grown by a local family. I don't do a lot of desserts. That helps. -

Do You Take Caffeine after Weight Loss Surgery?
swimbikerun replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
No soda after surgery. Went 3 weeks before, weaning off. Decaf only coffee, before and after. -
Surprised they didn't mention more veggies in terms of protein.
-
Did they say what they were using as 'research'. I've read a few things that go opposite what they say. It would be helpful to compare the research and see if we can glean anything from that, to help make a better decision. So much competing research out there. There was recently some articles out about Pepsi and Coke and their sponsorship of sugar research.

Underage (17) and Bariatrics?
swimbikerun replied to fumplins's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There have been surgeries and at least a couple studies done on younger people having surgery. Seems the results were quite positive. As the advice given already, check with the insurance, check with as many docs and programs you are able to. They will give you the criteria and help you from there. Best of luck! -

How Many Servings of Fruits and Vegetables Do You Get Each Day?
swimbikerun replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I have always been able to get veggies/fruit in. I do salads most of the days, so I get my 4-5 in. I use beans a lot and those can go for protein and veggies. Great for fiber too! Don't forget your fiber. -
Sport Beans. Dates. Love dates. Naners too.

Has anybody had problems with their gallbladder after the sleeve
swimbikerun replied to allsmiles 43's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes I did. The doc said it was all in my head. Actually it was all in my gallbladder. I suffered for months before he did anything and that was only because he got forced to. -
What sport or competition is for me? I need suggestions
swimbikerun replied to mi75's topic in Fitness & Exercise
All of the above. Weights, some aerobics, can you bike? You can do a bike in the gym. There are tons of things to do now: pylometrics. Swimming is excellent. It is not only a resistance exercise but you can combine it with weights to help. It works all the muscles especially if you do all the strokes. -
Its only a day or two. No problem, its when it goes longer. If Dan Bernandini can do it, you can too!
