    Personal trainer

It is possible to do a lot of things without building a lot of muscle. That being said you do realize that muscle is going to burn more fat than anything else, at rest. Its going to be easier to do things the stronger you are. Best of luck!

Which Holiday Treats Do You Have at Parties?

Healthy options but I will take a bite or two of something nice.

    Looking for ideas

The doctor should have been doing something long before now.
  4. Get the drift? Gallbladder issues/stones are fairly common after weight loss. I can't believe they didn't take your complaints seriously

What Is Your Holiday Party Strategy?

Not go to any and use it as an excuse.
  7. You all realize that bariatric practices are like 40-45% profit? Btw, the Texas State Medical Board was written up on how bad it is. I would not ever trust them to help you - they are there to help hide doctors' from you. I've got quite a few examples from what I've learned. My own state, they didn't know we had a pill mill doc practicing here. By federal law, they were to have been in jail awaiting sentancing. A hospital pleaded with a judge to let them work there in the ER under supervision. They let one ob/gyn off with a class and the baby died. The ob/gyn should have caught the problems. Tip of the iceburg.

    Struggling

Having been thru a similar issue (I have gastroparesis), and another couple of issues, I can say that eventually it settles down. I ended up in an emergency admission to the hospital, told I was going to die (organs were starting to go in some way). I was on a PICC line for 5-6 weeks, another surgery a couple months after that. Things that were really bad started to settle down but I still have a lot of issues. Beats being fat. The surgeons' attitude left a lot to be desired, but if you have a supportive doc, it will make a big difference.
  9. Doing a lot of things around the house, put in a new kitchen faucet for example, did a lot of cleaning, also things on the computer to get moving. Will do more tomorrow but am doing some computer work off/on because I'm quite sore. Lots of water/Powerade Zero. Bringing on the veggies now.

What Were Your Thanksgiving Triumphs and Tribulations?

Mine was doing things around the house and outside to make up for anything I may have over ate. I was already preparing the days before so that I ate better. More veggies in the house. On Friday I was back to wraps and tons of veggies in there. Now I'm working on doing more things in the house, did a little more than a mile in the pool today (no one opened until today) and tomorrow will be swimming, weights, and the last bit of grouting on the bathroom wall before glazing.

Do You Use Alcohol after Weight Loss Surgery?

Absolutely! I never bought imitation baking extracts and I don't intend to start now. That goes for pie crusts too. PS For those of you who don't know, real extracts (vanilla, etc.) are normally 35% alcohol (or more if you make your own). Pie crusts are made with VODKA. Williams Sonoma teaches that for an excellent (chemical reaction) reason.

    "How much protein...?" SparkPeople.com article

When it concerns bariatrics here is my questions (that never got answered by any medical professional): After surgery why aren't recommendations for Protein based on that persons' gender, age and weight? When I've read serious discussions on the subject, it is always divided in those 3 plus exercise. Why is there the lifetime requirement of 60 grams? It should be MORE after surgery, and then go down when you are not healing. What about the concerns of higher bowel cancer rates from too much protein? I've seen one medical research paper that said less protein and more fiber is needed. Professionals push a lot of protein but not fiber also. Beans for example are good but get 'demonized' due to calories. They give you fiber you need, especially getting older, for a healthy intestinal track. I think they really need to get off the 60 grams for every person and come up with a formula for the first X months (1, 3 6, 9, 12, whatever) after surgery, and then base it on what you do. If you are more active, adjust for that. We should not be making a blanket "gram" statement when people are different.

    Post-Election Worries: Thanksgiving Recipes!

I choose to have all veggies and a turkey grown by a local family. I don't do a lot of desserts. That helps.

What Nutrition Fact Did You Learn?

Importance of veggies and lean meats, no fried/caffeine/soda and more exercise of some sort.

    Does being active get easier?

The older you get, the more you need exercise for strong bones.
  21. No soda after surgery. Went 3 weeks before, weaning off. Decaf only coffee, before and after.

    Protein

Surprised they didn't mention more veggies in terms of protein.

    Metabolism Boosts

Did they say what they were using as 'research'. I've read a few things that go opposite what they say. It would be helpful to compare the research and see if we can glean anything from that, to help make a better decision. So much competing research out there. There was recently some articles out about Pepsi and Coke and their sponsorship of sugar research.
