Anyone feeling dizzy and faint like
swimbikerun replied to nikkib24's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, its called orthostatic hypotension. Did you have high blood pressure in the past? Are you still on meds? My BP was going way too low and that's what happens. Malnutrition has caused it for me also. -
How does a sleeve gastrectomy work?
swimbikerun replied to Sally Johnston's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Great comments Sally, I think the other item I would add is that drinking also makes a difference. I don't drink anything but Water, Powerade Zero, or other zero calorie drinks. I can manage an ounce or so of milk in coffee but its got to be a good amount of coffee and drank over a 10-15 min period or so. -
Are you finding it easy to eat?
swimbikerun replied to Sally Johnston's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Wow. I never would have guessed any of those foods. Mine is always salad, veggies and fruit, with lean Proteins. If I want anything fattening, then I make it. That means a cookie or something and I make it to share with others. I'm not a chocolate fan. Tonight, I went and got salad with chickpeas, Beans, peas, egg, and then some chicken. I also got some fruit. I'll eat off this until tomorrow. I have some other left over salad I'll eat too. Most people would put a good amount of cheese on it but dairy and I don't seem to get along any more. That really surprises me. -

You were able to get another surgeon? In this area, the big 2 places have non compete agreements. Then the one other hospital that does them in the area will not perform them because certain doctors "fraternize" with other doctors. Either way, they won't do it once you're touched by another doctor. I also developed GERD/reflux after surgery and its been bad at times. Just depends on what I eat. So I've got no chance at getting it fixed. Another reason why you should investigate thoroughly - and my blog is getting updated to reflect my records and others experiences so that people can be educated, which always makes for the best possible outcomes for the patients. I learned very quickly when I asked one place, what am I getting for my money and they said oh don't ask that. You are the one paying thru copayments and the like, your sick leave, etc. so get the best you can for your money. You are doing this because YOU are worth it - make the investment. -
Developing Mental Toughness for Long-term Weight Loss: 4 Quick Steps!
swimbikerun replied to Prudence Ticknor's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Developing new friendships is one way out of that. I have friends who races, in a group that does, then there are swimming meets, biking groups, meet some new people and make new friends. I also have healthy eating groups. I do mean outside of your surgeon's area. Most of those I see are just simple things once a month or whatever. We need those who are going to keep us going and help 2 times a week or more. -

Going to drink water or a non calorie beverage, 5 ounces of that, and then think whether or not you want it or not. The other is going out for a 10-15 min. walk. Try those first. -

The other point you need to remember is that we need healthy food. An apple is healthy. Salad is healthy. I can see eating one apple since its a carb, but eating salad or lettuces, veggies like broccoli or cucumbers, proteins like chickpeas, those are healthy for you. -

swimbikerun replied to Bandarella's topic in Rants & Raves
True but there are a lot of sacrifices to stay that way. I eat a lot of food but make sure it is lean Protein only and veggies. I do have food intolerances that don't help but that's what works for me. Never expected all this. Then again, I never expected my surgeon and his attitude and how it would negatively affect my care either. -

Wait until you have a hospital stay for malnutrition, a PICC line for 5-6 weeks, and then problems from neuropathies, polyneuropathies, cataracts, and most of all not being the athlete you were, and you'd not think the tiny ones are that fortunate. In addition it delays plastic surgery. Oh and one last thing: it is easier to find age appropriate clothes for plus sizes than below size 4. So don't think that everything is peachy on this side of the equation. It isn't. Forgot: I got a reflective shirt, bright yellow, with a running skeleton on it. My sister said amazing likeness. -

Yes. The hardest thing, I wore size 20-18 and I had less problems finding clothes appropriate to my "station" and age than I do now. I'm below 4 and actually don't recommend people going this low. Its not even easy in petites which I am since I'm short. I never come back on them. I encourage them to eat & drink healthy, walk, but I never make comments about the weight. Sometimes the best thing is to simply demonstrate who's the mature personality. -

How about stinky running shoes? Trying on too many clothes because you have so many choices now and spending money you shouldn't? LOL. -

I am so sorry to hear about the leaks and all here. My heart goes out to all of you. At the same time, thank you for your honesty in letting others know the situation. I don't think that this information needs to frighten people but to educate them into considerations and to be prepared for any issues. -

Jessi Rae I had the same thing but my surgeon accused me anorexia. It was easier to blame the patient. Everyone else knew it wasn't true. I had the HIDA scan done and it showed function of 12 and 11%. I lost a lot of weight quickly, the surgeon should have known that and didn't. Its not even documented that I had problems getting down the pills they give you for that. Long term complications? My surgeon doesn't follow them. That's why they don't discuss it. They dont want to learn about it either. My urgent care PCP and another surgeon figured out I was malnourished when the bariatric surgeon didn't. Months before. -

Thanks! Nah, I just rather give people the facts and then let them decide. I don't regret the surgery, I regret the surgeon and how that worked but I had GI issues before the surgery. I was within a week of getting hospitalized for gastroparesis before, so whatever. LOL. -
Hampton Roads area here.

I appreciate everyone who is honest about complications. I think they need to be honest in how they're dealt with, and surgeons be rated on that. I've found others not to have a lot of experience dealing with the issues and they could use the help. -

Hi Sleeve thanks for asking. No, malnutrition getting worse. Surgeon missed the gallbladder that everyone else caught. The insurance spoke to them and at least they got rid of the gallbladder. Missed also, my urgent care PCP caught the malnutrition issue first, then a plastic surgeon. The surgeon didn't, he said all was well, when things have gotten worse. -
Congratulations! My first sprint tri was in November of last year. I had a great time and hope you did also.
