What is your go to food when you're out and forgot to bring?
swimbikerun replied to teacherlady2133's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
You aren't. We all have to adjust after surgery. The successful people, really, that's what they do: watch their food and exercise. No matter what, the tool is a tool, it is not a cure all. -

No veggies? Taco Bell and McD's and BK are not real food under any circumstances. Make it a habit Eat like a rabbit My middle boy Joe got a bite of a graham cracker I once had sitting down with him and petting him. He decided that one bite was enough. Just like one cracker for us is enough (ok I've had 2 but not big ones). -

Just be careful on Yogurt. It can be sugar or calorie laden. The other is that should you get dairy issues after surgery (I could drink a cow dry before {sigh}) you might want to get smaller containers or split them up. -

You did GREAT! I usually can find a salad with meat or get a sandwich with meat. Or some sort of chicken bites. Sometimes I pay for that though. LOL but at least its nice for a taste. -
You know, all that matters now is seeing people go through this with the least amount of complications and get the life they wanted. I'm so happy to see that others are going to do well with this. There are bumps in the road, but hopefully those potholes will be filed in and all will be well soon.

You have made your own luck. I am so very delighted to hear that you are dating. That is one first step for accepting yourself. Hindsight is better than foresight. Keep on trucking. You will always question yourself, but at this point, will it help you? Keep your focus on losing the weight you want to lose, without all the self doubt that will only hinder you.

One Month Post-Op: Nauseous & Light-headed
swimbikerun replied to missmeli's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am so sorry. PPI's are Proton Pump Inhibitors. They're drugs that reduce stomach acid. They can interfere with B12, so that's why for bariatric patients, you need to be VERY careful of them. VERY careful. For a short period of time, fine, but any length of time, B12 is not a Vitamin deficiency you want. You want a GI who knows about these things or willing to learn so that you're careful of them. I'd be very leery of any one who uses them over the counter constantly too. I don't find that simple things like this are noted to bariatric patients. -
As I have found to my cost, they only move when you are at deaths' door, and sometimes not even then. Its more costly that way, the mindset of medical education. Sad ... I'm sorry for your suffering. I just wish I had the ability to do more.

Agreed there. However, you need to be careful as PPI's can cause their own problems. Lord knows I've certainly found that out. LOL. -
Typical day of eating? Inspiration needed :)
swimbikerun replied to tami88's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
salad, fresh veggies/fruit, chicken & turkey & egg are Proteins. Vega. Don't eat nuts, tree nuts, dairy (milk), fish, shellfish. Watch for a few bites of regular bread. Sometimes it doesn't work, a couple of times I can get in something crouton size. -
PHEW ... still something is going on. Ok, I'm sorry but this ... head to ER if you need it. Yes, food and I didn't get along well. Food and I have never gotten along at times. Give it a shot. I didn't do well with them but you need to try and it and see if it works for you. You don't know, I shift around because sometimes things work and sometimes they don't. I give them a shot. Its worth it you know?

Fiddleman we must have read the same medical research. For swimmers, its dead on - although it would need to be modified as you have done so because we do need more carbs for the swim than the weights. Still need it though for upper body strength.
-
Sho got that right. I think any way we need to do what we can to support each other, once we're dumped. I am until I go.
-
Oh I know this. I found out that & post it on my blog. If you have complications, you'll can die from them. I've been followed on public property, photographed, been watched, etc. I say here's my experience. I have the records to prove it, and yes it all comes down to being on your own. The other is that it appears some docs will go to great lengths to not want others to find out this information. I prefer being honest. I just give people the info and what they decide or do, is what they decide or do. Sort of like witnessing about Christianity.
-
Oh shoot yeah, especially as malnutrition kills. My stuff, between what was found in my records, and the logs and all, show a pattern. It also shows me saying I wanted some health care, I'm not some lawsuit happy person but I wanted my stuff fixed. I agree with you totally and that's what I believe is going on, is they try not to have lifelong walking advertisements like us. I just give here are my records and you can see this in black and white. You aren't overreacting. There's no one I know that would have been like you are. Of course they're going to minimize the damage. Its sad - as my blog talks about, what I've seen is that bariatric surgery is lucrative and the profit ranges I see are 45%. Still gracious I am so sorry ...
-
All I know is, this is just wrong. You don't dump a patient like this (but then again that was what was done to me). I just recently added to my records that I didn't give permission for the bariatric groups' offices to photograph me on common grounds. They then got a security guard out there and he's taking photos, stalking me, writing down stuff. They don't want me advertising my records or the like. Be very careful. Money is more important it seems, than people.

I'm glad at least there will be some answers and you should be looked after. That's one of the problems I had: doctor was run so badly that things didn't end up going right. Its hard to lead when you're in 10,000 things that no human could take care of. Let us know and keep us informed. Pulling for you.
-
I was about to say, don't they have someone if the doctor is operating who can take care of these things? I mean that's just a bit much for me.
-
Whoops sorry, A&E is the English/British version of ER.
-
I am so sure you will and good on you for your positive spirit! I'm hoping that this does the trick for you.
-
Same here. I got its all in your head, and nagging so badly I didn't want to go back to the surgeon's office. I mean incessant. He once asked me are you eating because you want to or I told you. I said No because you NAGGED me. Sorry ... I can understand how you feel. I feel the same way. It was hard to get in 700 calories yesterday. How are you making out?
-
Oh my I don't think he is either. Is there an A&E you can go to?
-
I can understand that. I had problems with constipation but with alternating diarrhea and other stuff. So I was diagnosed with IBS, especially after a colonoscopy kinda showed a few things that cooberated that story. Glad you can do them! I ended up using Vega.

Since most Protein drinks are milk based, what do people do?
