Howdy!!! Send me a message and I'll give you my email if you like. Let me clarify: I can and do eat chicken and turkey but it isn't a lot. I've had a few reactions to chicken at times and have to bug off. I'm in a lot of vegetarian/vegan groups. Plus my Protein powders, etc. are vegan/vegetarian. I've got problems with red meat, fish/shellfish, nuts/tree nuts and dairy, but I know a lot of what the "gang" uses in terms of stuff you could have.

Hey, I am sorry to hear this. Let us know how you are doing. Not a good thing. -
for those of you who do this, just an FYI to look at this link. It is not the Protein deal you think it is. http://blog.fooducate.com/2014/06/01/cheerios-protein-cereal-sugary-hype-not-much-more/

How do you get 70gm of protein without shakes
swimbikerun replied to Unhappysleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Eat your veggies that are protein: beans, peas, chickpeas, broccoli, spinach, etc. Put protein on salads or mix in with the dressing (YES!). -

Posted on this in another area but you can still get problems even with supplementation. You're exactly 100% correct. Still shouldn't be on PPI's long term. Like HRT, they were never meant to be a forever thing. As for calcium, there are several ways of testing that. Blood serum, ionized, and then urine calcium. The combination can actually tell you a LOT about whether or not you are utilizing the bones or not. I'm around your age and I have DEXA scans every year now. Not only do I have every risk on the planet for it, but my female members ALL are or were on biophos. and they're bigger, taller, etc. than I am. On top of that, my last DEXA scan showed a significant drop in one hip and a drop in the other that wasn't significant. -
Did you check in the Protein forum? An excellent post/link was just put up there.

This is true and glad you have found someone to take care of you. I'm really paying the price for the lack of after care, so it is comforting to know a few people are getting it. I have another couple of people I'm talking to that the aftercare isn't there. Very concerning. Something I preach about - asking your doctor about aftercare. -
I'm so very sorry for your problems. That is so horrible. I'm sure we all here wish you the best and hope things work out. I had malnutrition but it was quick, now its slow. I'm starting to have problems with shaky legs and the like. It appears I have some other food issues & motility issues that are my problem. So I can get an idea of what you're going thru but nothing as rough as that. Do they know why all this happened? Any way to give you an answer or closure?

You made an excellent point OregonDaisy. Our stomachs are cut so that the least stretchy part is there. I sincerely hope your restriction isn't from a bad but good problem. Same here for being on my own. -

I have constantly been told that VSG's do not have malabsorption. The problem is that we don't know where some people do and some people don't. Since there is altered motility of the GI track with the VSG, it is a guess as to who gets what. There can be other factors that affect that issue. -
Hmmmmm what about looking online for some? I know more triathletes and ultras.

That's great. However have you asked the following questions at http://wp.me/p4rHV9-3 for example. No one here is trying to be nasty or anything. As skinnygirlwithin pointed out, we're not seeing a lot of information, just someone who's come on and said I have to do this within a short time frame and that's really not realistic unless they've already had all their clearances for health, etc. Trying to lose 10 pounds, you can do that by a pre op diet and your surgeon already knows that. You have to realize you are going to be working during the time of that fast and that's very few calories. Are you going to be able to do that?
-
It can have an impact. Think about it, your gallbladder stores bile to use to process fat. If you are burning off fat, the more bile the gallbladder can shoot out, the more you should be able to process fat. The reason why so many have to get rid of their gallbladder is because it develops stones or doesn't work properly because of all the fat that its working itself overtime on.

If you are 4 weeks out/1 month, I was cleared at that time to do anything. That's why I was wondering - all I know are cleared at that point.

Hmmm starvation mode is a myth. I just saw an item that came across about this - let me look thru the notes but she wouldn't be starving right now: http://www.weightwatchers.com/util/art/index_art.aspx?tabnum=1&art_id=35501 http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/749313-fact-or-fiction-starvation-mode http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2495396/pdf/postmedj00315-0056.pdf

Have you tried veggies instead of fruit and you do get plateaus now and then early on (which you are on schedule for). What are you drinking? Lots of Water? I also was hoofing it a lot like you, but lost more but we are all individuals. I didn't look at the scales as much as whooo hoooo I am FREE ... at my one month appt. I had the bags packed going its 2 days into the swimming contest and I'm out of here. Do you have your gallbladder?
-
Yes, that would take a week to 2 weeks. Then scheduling the surgery would take a week or two? That would be end of June, first part of July I think, at the earliest. Is that something you can do? That would give you 6 weeks to recover. The problem is that can they do it in 2 weeks?
-
If you don't have surgery now, its not something you can just up and get done. There are a number of hoops to go through. So basically if you are looking to be up and after kids, unless you had surgery in June, I doubt it.

My cholesterol level was somewhat high because my *HDL* was high. The lowest I had it was 55 and usually was in the 80's to 90 BEFORE the surgery. After surgery it has been insane. I've had it go to *127*. That's the *HDL*. The only times the LDL goes up is when the malnutrition is really bad. That being said, my full blood sister had HDL in the 40's, and started losing weight and eating healthy. It went into the 30's. Then this past few months, to the 20's. She's lost weight and kept it off, drinking healthier and exercising. She has a coach. Go figure.
