Thanks LivingFree! No things are getting worse. No one can treat the malnutrition, and the fact is, without the bariatric surgeon who treated it in the first place, there's not a lot they can do. This is why I constantly preach to people to check the doctor and the staff and their procedures and policies thoroughly before you go to them. The older post ops are the ones who need emotional support more so than physical support. In the beginning it is more physical, afterwards more emotional - unless you're stuck in my boat.

All Protein supplements list

Torani I believe . Tahnks!! -
Would you all be interested in a forum where you could discuss vegetarian and vegan options without any pressure? We'd of course have an emphasis on getting in as much B12, Protein, etc. as possible but without the pressure thrown at us to have meat. I know I felt uncomfortable with my surgeon who always pushed those things or just Beans at me when I couldn't do them.

Suffolk, Virginia & surrounding residents

Hey I live in Chesapeake, born and raised in Ptown. Give me a PM. I can help you out. Born and raised here, lived here all my life. -
Have you tried the Master Gardeners Extensions? http://ag.arizona.edu/pubs/garden/mg/ http://extension.arizona.edu/maricopamg http://www.phxgardening.com/grow-vegetables.html http://www.phoenixtropicals.com/vegetables.html http://www.azcentral.com/style/hfe/outdoors/articles/20100317arizona-spring-planting-guide.html http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/azgard/msg1116045925629.html They all can show and help you to grow crops in the heat. I've used the ones here in Virginia. They're great. Some of them even will allow you to swap stuff with them or teach you things like dehydration, canning, etc. Speaking of which, what about homesteading? Have you looked into that? http://homesteading-arizona.blogspot.com/ http://www.motherearthnews.com/homesteading-and-livestock/yavapai-county-zmaz87jfzgoe.aspx http://thepaleomama.com/2013/10/urbanhomesteading/ http://www.homesteadingtoday.com/general-homesteading-forums/homesteading-questions/285458-az-homesteading.html All of these are ways that you can save money and use less resources, conserve. Things you can do around the house. I know here there are groups that allow you to trade, swap and barter. If you can get to a library also, there are ways of getting books on that, or info. What else have you checked into like this?

Is the sleeve safe long term?
swimbikerun replied to Cutechiq10's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Bingo - I was going to say cancer patients have done well with it. Beats living with the complications of obesity! -
Hmmm hey this is dumb but what about the gardening thing? You could grow some things in that warm weather. That would help with food and getting you out. It would be cooler in the evenings and with the light being out until 730 or 8, that would help that some. What do you like to read? I'm not a fan of TV. I never was. Even as a kid we watched a few things together but I don't care for the mind & ethics destruction that TV is.

The best surgeon on Hampton Roads, Va is: Dr. Terracina
swimbikerun replied to mswisdom's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Question for you - what made you choose Dr. Terracina vs. Clark? -
Can I follow-up with a primary care or does it have to be a bariatric specialist?
swimbikerun replied to marfar7's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
You can take a list to them to help. Can you get the old doc to help you out? I'm concerned. -
The best surgeon on Hampton Roads, Va is: Dr. Terracina
swimbikerun replied to mswisdom's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
How did all this work out? I have someone else getting done by Dr. Terracina. Love to know how he is. I had another surgeon in Hampton Roads, not far away and my story is one I publicize so that people don't get what I got and the knowledge of their actions is spread so people know their practices. -
My surgeon won't operate because I complained
swimbikerun replied to greensleeve's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
How did this all go Greensleeve? I have had a bad experience also, one where I asked for help and didn't get it. There are a few other things going on also but suffice it to say that they don't want me talking about my experience but then they shouldn't have dropped my care when it appears from other docs I had issues going on and they noted in my care that I was trying. Among other things ... I want to add more so that people like you and others aren't harmed and others are aware of what goes on. I know I've been followed, have been "gang stalked" and am constantly photo'ed, watched, etc. by this doctors' office. I've been on public property and had the cops called on me several times and they've told the doctor "ignore her, leave her alone". -
taking reviews with a grain of salt
swimbikerun replied to Familyof42013's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
If you read my blog you'd understand just how much a surgeon with a different personality can make on your care (or the lack thereof). If they are arrogant they may be using that to intimidate people or bully people. Either way if they're in a caring profession, why should they be? Because they can! There is no reason for that. The idea that someone can be rude or arrogant and that people should accept that because they're good - why do people think that? We can all learn manners. If the doctor didn't want the hustle and bustle or can't cope with it, there are things to help them out, but taking it out on the patient: if they're like that before surgery, what will they might be like AFTER surgery when you need help? See my blog and tell me it doesn't make a different in your life and your care. -
Thought I would leave this for any one who has had surgery and uses the SSRI's: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/826245 Discusses which ones were noted for increasing weight more.
-
Well there are blips that come up, but yes I'd start wanting medical reasons. I mean ... they should have given them to you. Maybe I'm more sensitized due to what I've been going thru or that I've seen a recent blog post from a patient advocate who complained about the "needed" second mammograms, but I just want to see facts. I mean what you are talking about is highly unusual. I know in my case things were missed. I just don't want another person to suffer because they got the same blow off/brush off that I did.
-
I was not hungry for months. Can some one talk to me about this one? Where I could find info on it and write it up? If this is an issue after surgery, for aftercare, maybe we need to talk about it. I'd certainly want to warn people as I didn't get any of this. Then again I was in the first year of those who got the sleeve (insurance approved any way, which is what most of us wait for). I want to make sure though it is not head hunger though. Thanks!!!
-
I see. Thanks for letting us know. If you would not mind, please keep us informed. I'm concerned about aftercare and I'd like to know. It is a situation that I'd probably want to tell people about, so that they would ask and know their surgeon dealt with it and didn't blow them off.
-
Agreed. The support stuff really is bent to 1 year and then its like oh you have survived but never anything after that. I see a lot of people who ask stuff that I think should have been handled by the doctors office. I'd like to see that after care after 1 year is addressed and what the surgeons' are involved in after that. I had problems that were not diagnosed and wondered why they were not caught by the doctor, since the indications were that they were from the surgery. I'm wondering if the fact that they don't do really anything for those after a year makes a difference.
-
Ok but is that different from what people have now? I put up a blog but I make it from the view point of lack of aftercare and what can happen with a bariatric surgeon who drops your care and you can't get any in the area. If you look at the top 10 blogs for bariatrics, they don't cover that. It gives something to stand your blog out. Oh and btw http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?ApologizeUnconditionally http://www.askmen.com/money/body_and_mind_150/177_better_living.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-apology_apology I had a few ladies that told me several things to fix on my blog, so I thanked them and spent a couple of weeks making changes, as I thought their comments had great merit. Just a different response that shows how I'm going to approach different viewpoints.

Hey, I'm in Va. also. I think you would be a good mentor because you've been through all that, meaning you know what adversity is like, and have overcome in mentally and are willing to give back. -
Are you giving credit to others where it is due for their recipes? How about a share of the profits when you sell this cookbook? I'm sorry to dash your hopes but there are other WLS related sites (and other sites) out there for free and already several books out. I think what I would see here is how you can distinguish it from what else is out there? Any ideas? I'm speaking realistically ... of what you have in front of you.

Actually the rule is 100 posts. I tried posting when I was 2 years out in the vets forum and couldn't do it until I had 100 posts.
