YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH Forsythia!!! You go girlfriend! Unfortunately I have a problem with your comment as I'm now one of the thin broads. You know, the ones with a chest small enough that Victoria's Secret doesn't make bras in our sizes any more? LOL ROFL

I didn't mind eating around others, but what's wrong with closet eating (or any eating) when you eat healthy? DON'T EAT ANY food THAT HAS A COMMERCIAL. That includes drink too. As long as you stick to that, what does it matter if you eat in the closet or bedroom or car or garage or the balcony of the Empire State Building. Stick to eating healthy things: broccoli, cauliflower, lettuces, spinach, chickpeas, peas, Beans, celery, carrots ... a few berries. Dates if you want a snack (they are my DOWNFALL).

Amen! Hey I was fat and I was still wearing the large Speedos. No one cares. As long as you have clothes on and can share a lane, nobody cares. If you have a spiffy looking suit, YES they will. I've seen some "cat" looking ones, etc. then someone will make a comment. Otherwise ... its who cares. Btw, I go to a university gym. Everyone was there. Thin, middle, fat, women, old people, rehab you name it. No one cared. If you run the wrong way on the track (the track direction alternates on different days), someone will carp. You use equipment on the track floor, expect to hear a beef. I've had some older women walk the track and passed encouragement on when I passed them. They were thankful. The word is out now that if people don't exercise they won't get thinner, so shaming them is NOT the way to go. You need to accept and encourage.

Has your surgeon looked at this? what can you eat or drink?

Let me ask you something: why are you afraid to get healthier? Why should you let other people stop you from being the healthiest and best you are? What right do other people have to do that? You are giving them that right when you say that.

Complications of malnutrition. Look up neurological complications of bariatric surgery, cataracts (India has it in droves), circulatory collapse, muscle weakness, various off and on vitamin/mineral deficiencies, muscle weakness ... Uh huh ... if you look at the medical literature I've found one or two that indicate that since the food should be moving thru a bit quicker, then there can be some that goes with it. The problems I have are that the gastroparesis is still here (motility disorder) and then I developed GERD/reflux, IBS, intolerances to fish, shellfish, dairy, nuts, treenuts, and now we're finding backing off gluten has settled down my system. You're talking the combination of all that together is what is the issue. Yes, I was diagnosed with both and cachexia 6 months after surgery. Food and I have not gotten along well. It looks more like kwashiorkor at this point, rather than the mix of both I had before. I thank God for raising enough stink to get the surgeon to get the gallbladder out. I'd been in MAJOR trouble I'm sure if not. Ah, I'm pretty tough. I don't get anxious I get mad. I stand my ground. I want appropriate healthcare. If there's a mistake, apologize, figure out why and fix it. That is NOT what my surgeon did. Even his own PCP that he sent me to put in the records my care is going to be a lot harder without them. On top of that, once it showed I got some care what things were investigated and not "all in my head" they found a number of problems. You do see these things but really only by models. Not off someone of normal weight. The reason why is the edema masks it and doctors can't figure that out. They also never figured out how I was of "normal" weight before but went cachetic (as in dying from malnutrition). This is why I should have been monitored and when I complained about the HIPAA violation, the callous way I got dismissed, the non answers, etc. was just plain WRONG and in one case illegal. I have the records that back up my story. Nope, there are agreements both legally and recusal wise that no one can treat me. That's why I tell people investigate your options. If you have a surgeon problem and can't go elsewhere, that's not something you want to get into. Then again, there's no excuse for what I've gone through. You don't tell a patient (in a nutshell) that if you dont obey them then you'll ruin their relationship with other doctors, blame it on me being mental, and then I come up with a load of issues above because of the half type care I got. As for RD's, let me tell you, most of them can barely treat diabetes. I actually had the previous PCP try to get a couple and they're like we don't treat that. Even then it is not covered by insurance and its not like I can afford it. The surgeon I was with, lost their RD. It took them TEN MONTHS to get another one and I don't know how long of a background her stuff is in that. They have an NP who is pretty nifty though. She can at least read medical research and that's putting her one up. I get physically tired but not mentally tired. My job is to tell people investigate. Check them out and ask questions. I've heard too many times once they get the surgery done, pfftttt and they do some perfunctory stuff and off you go. WRONG. Every person deserves to be treated as a human being and taken care of - and just to fill out their stats for the ASMBS. Easy money gravy train when they don't have surgeries. I appreciate it. It is for all these wonderful people here who deserve the chance to live a dream that I'm telling people they ARE worth this and to FIGHT for them to be taken care of and not tossed by the wayside. Including mine appears to be illegal (HIPAA violation retaliation is a no no.) Whatever you all do, pass the word on to make sure they take care of you, that they haven't any complaints to the medical boards, HIPAA laws, or they can refer you to their worst cases that they fixed (and I don't mean weight regain). Make sure they take care of YOU because YOU are worth it. That is my message to all.

My surgeon won't operate because I complained
swimbikerun replied to greensleeve's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Let me point out that in not many areas you can do this. In my area, the main "monopoly" has written agreements/legal agreements about not seeing other doctors in the 2nd biggest group. So they can't see me. The other ones, the doctor there knew/worked with my doctor AND plays golf with another in the group. So they're not going to see me. I can't constantly go out of the area to spend a whole day with a doctor from another area because of all the other problems, cost, work, etc. That's why I tell people to investigate the situation BEFORE they get into it. What is really wrong is that these doctors attempt to intimidate (follow, gang stalk, security guards when you are on public areas, lawyers) you into not telling the story so that others benefit. If all they care about is their jobs and the like, then they shouldn't have acted that way when you're with them or they should apologize. In my case nothing was done at my complaints at the local level so I went higher up. Especially after the 2 days after filing a HIPAA complaint and being dropped and retaliation being illegal by law, the fact that I've never sent lawyers or anything to them but just said you make a mistake, you fix it, what does it say about this doctor? Again, while it works you can go elsewhere, I want people to check and make sure they can. I asked for another doc and got the one I was assigned (which actually is a good thing because the doctor I wanted operated and never followed up with someone until 2 months later and that was because the patient called). This guy can do some things right - operating is one of them. Now, no care. So really check, because my situation is not one where you want to be in. -
There is nothing wrong with that. If I could get away with that I would. I just can see blaming everything on mood or mental issues until all the physical ones have been taken care of first. I also can't see giving some one a depression label because they lost their cat and cried about it for a week and they need to be on medication for months. I had a study showing about 1/2 of the diagnoses given by PCP's, etc. didn't fit the medical criteria they were being treated for, and then more than that for other wrong things. So I tend to want people to be treated appropriately and effectively. Of course when I asked for that I got in trouble. LOL.

Forget the IF. When it comes to health I am proactive. Do you have a teaching school nearby? Yes, that bogged me when the surgeon said we just do what is general for our patients. This is the same doctor who said they'd take care of nutrition. So my other docs are going - why isn't he taking care of this, it is nutrition related? Any way ... No I'm sorry, rule out the physical before emotional. I've heard that as a cop out for WAY too long. Btw support means DOING something or active monitoring, not just "oh yeah let someone else take care of it". I've had that too ... and that is NOT support.

Comfort zones, true weight plateaus

because when you get to the point of malnutrition where you can't make it without help, no one else has the critical care expertise to deal with it. That's the problem. PCP's don't have admitting privs to hospitals. Even if they did, knowing how to work PICC lines or dealing with any other stuff, that's not something they've trained on or know how to handle. They also don't have any idea of signs/symptoms of malnutrition. For example, my legs have edema - the vein docs think it is varicose veins because that can be a cause of it. I also have cataracts way long before others do, and the Indians who work at my workplace caught it because back home, when people stopped working the fields and started giving the food to others because they worked the fields, they developed cataracts. When you take all the other physical issues together, that's how you figure out what it is. Regular docs don't know the difference between kwashiorkor and marasmus. That's why no one else has seen malnutrition or would watch for it like a surgeon who's been trained in critical care. I also asked the same thing, trust me I've asked tons of questions and they can't explain it. Once I started reading the medical literature, that's how I picked up on it. Plus, after 4 abdominal surgeries, etc. any procedure outside of EGD or colonoscopy, and multiple GI issues, no one wants to touch you. I had a friend who had her gallbladder removed and a band issue and the GI wouldn't touch her because of "scar tissue".

round one of test results are back
swimbikerun replied to CowgirlJane's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Thanks Cowgirl for catching us up. I don't like to pry so I wait and see what happens. I'm glad you said something. Thanks also for sharing that. I do better with natural stuff too. When you said "hemocratic" were you talking about hematocrit or the MCV? MCV would indicate a B12 deficiency. I want to make sure I'm not missing any thing. -
I thought there was someone from Richmond on here LOL

What do you miss most after Weight Loss Surgery?
swimbikerun replied to Menelly's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Not one dumb thing, although I admit Krispy Kreme and the like, the occasional treat, would be nice. -
If you want me to give you a rundown on what it is like to have less calories and malnutrition, I can. It encompasses a lot. It doesn't help that the doctor didn't do anything about it or missed it when I was with him. No care now - this is why you always need to investigate your doctor and the staff, etc. If you don't think malnutrition or losing too much is a problem, I'm happy to let someone be in my shoes. Its not fun guys. I've got more problems than when I was fat. I wouldn't change the surgery but the doctor is a different story. I got moved to him after I asked for another. I was uncomfortable with him at first, and I now understand why. Unfortunately, the insurance didn't give you a big choice as the place closest to me wasn't on the insurance list.

What about avocado, those are healthy fats? Peanuts and nuts? Cherries? Dates are huge in calories.
-
Ha! Mine didn't feel like he owed me an explanation. "*I DID* what *I* thought was right". Did you hear anything about me the patient in there? That's why I say investigate the heck out of the doctor.

Comfort zones, true weight plateaus
swimbikerun replied to NurseGrace's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Ok so let me ask you both what is stopping you? -
Yes get him or her to tell you what is going on in a way it can be understood. That makes no sense.
-
Agreed. I make the best of what I put in also, the only problem is that I have several GI issues that compound the problem.
-
In addition to the above excellent ideas, what about Medjool dates? I tried them. They are lots of Fiber and 66 calories each. You wouldn't know it by chewing on them though. They are a mildly almond flavored type of thing and I mean very very mild. Tasty and do help with calories but natural sugar and fiber.

Yes. I had the same thing, eventually hospitalized for malnutrition but much closer out. Do you still have your gallbladder? The other is I am a bit further out than what you are. At the time I was 6 months out of surgery. Is your doctor monitoring you? I'm wondering because I was dropped at 16 months out and the deterioration is because I don't have any care that is appropriate to what is needed.

diet question for the vets!
swimbikerun replied to lylabelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I vote for what Catherine said above. My view is as long as I am wearing the size clothes I am, I'm not sweating it. A couple bites this early out isn't going to kill you but the issue is: do you want to start doing that habit so soon out from surgery? -
Suffolk, Virginia & surrounding residents
swimbikerun replied to SleevedJune62013's topic in The Lounge
I didn't but I sent you one. Oscar Smith is alright. I can ask the cops what they think if you want. LOL. Western Branch, Greenbrier, Hickory and Great Bridge are pretty good. Not a lot of trouble in Ches. P town is a bit more limited.
